The National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health(NIOSH) defines Workplace Violence as:

Any physical assault, threatening behavior, or verbal abuse

that occurs in a work setting.

This includes psychological trauma due to threats.

Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) 2012 studyshowed 36% of industrial organizations reported having instances

of workplace violence in the past year.

Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) reports

2 million workers are victims of workplace violence each year.

Liberty Mutual Research institute 2011 study states workplace

violence was the 10th leading cause of non-fatal occupational

injuries annually at a cost of$590 million.

An active shooter is an individual actively engagedin killing (or attempting to kill) people in a confined

or populated area using firearms.

Active Shooter Statistics

NYPD study in 2012 showed active shooter incidents occurred at 5types of locations: open commercial areas, office buildings, schools,

factories, and warehouses

Roughly half took place at commercial facilities

38% of victims had a professional relationship to the attacker

(Type II or III NIOSH classification)

6% of victims had a FAMILIAL relationship to the attacker

(Type IV)

o Location physical description of the shooter(s)o Number and type of weapons being used

o Number of potential victims at your location

As a last resort and only if your life is in danger, attempt

to incapacitate the shooter

Act with physical aggression and throw items at the

active shooter

Otherwise, wait for the authorities, as the Active Shooter

will engage in either "flight or fight."
