and has grown to become a principal supplier in the

natural products industry.

Starwest is a manufacturer and processor of botanicals,

herbs, and spices, with an emphasis on certified organic

Serving the health food, nutritional supplement and cosmetic industries,

including small manufacturing companies, Starwest Botanicals provides

Certified Organic Processor and Kosher Certified Facility We are a Certified Organic Processor, certified by Quality Assurance

International. Starwest is also a Kosher Certified facility, certified by

Kosher Certification Services. Most of our ingredients are kosher. All of our

ingredients are non-irradiated and gluten-free.

STARWEST makes every effort to select ingredients from natural renewable

sources. We are environmentally and socially responsible, and dedicated to the

conservation of plants and the preservation of their natural habitat. We are a

member of United Plant Savers, which supports sustainable wild collection

practices in order to protect plant species from becoming endangered. Our

business is conducted in a way that allows us to maintain our standard of

environmental dedication, with commitments to sustainable, organic farming

and caring for the environment.

Supporting Organic and Sustainable AgricultureStarwest is a Certified Organic Processor, offering a complete selection

of certified organically grown and harvested botanicals, herbs and spices.

Certified organic products are grown and harvested without the use of

pesticides, fertilizers or chemicals, and offer a more sustainable option for

feeding ourselves and our communities. Organic farming practices have many

environmental, health and social benefits, and can produce crops without

depleting our earth’s resources or polluting the environment. By using high

quality organic ingredients that are cultivated in a more sustainable way, we

strive to produce a finer quality taste, aroma, color and texture in our products,

and also help maintain biodiversity.

Environmental Practices at StarwestRenewable Energy. Starwest is committed to reducing our energy

consumption levels and supports our local utility company’s Greenergy®

program, allowing us to purchase power from renewable sources like wind,

water and sun. The goal of this program is to build new, cleaner energy

resources, thus reducing the need to build additional high-polluting power

plants.

Recycling. Starwest pursues various avenues in order to help preserve

our environment:

• Use packaging materials made from recycled materials, that are recyclable,

and most are bio-degradable.

• Recycle all cardboard, paper, glass, metal and recyclable plastic in

our facility.

• Use non-toxic printer inks, recycle printer cartridges, and use

environmentally friendly EPEAT Gold Certified monitors.

• Reduce daily company-wide paper usage.

customers’ expectations for high quality products, Starwest continues to

expand and advance its quality control laboratory and processes. With our

sophisticated, high-tech laboratory equipment and experienced Quality

Assurance team, Starwest has made a commitment to continued excellence

in product quality. We believe that quality begins with the knowledge and

experience of our raw material suppliers from around the world, and continues

through the shipment of product to our customers.

In-House Quality Control LaboratoryStarwest maintains a modern, in-house laboratory staffed by

experienced professionals. We provide a complete product analysis,

quickly and efficiently, with validated analytical procedures and state

of the art equipment.

Specification Sheets, Certificates of Analysis, Material Safety Data Sheets,

and Product Flow Charts are provided for each of our products.

cGMP CompliantStarwest complies with current Good Manufacturing Practices, with protocols

firmly in place including the documentation, validation, and qualification

systems to ensure compliance with the FDA and other regulatory bodies. We

thoroughly document every aspect of the process and operations involved,

including receiving, processing, packaging and shipping. 6

Our Quality Assurance team includes individuals dedicated to equipment

and process validation, document control, training, and maintenance. We

insure that FDA-compliant manufacturing protocols are followed, and our

products meet these requirements for identity, strength, quality and purity.

We have designed a full allergen prevention program, and have implemented

tight controls in our manufacturing processes to prevent cross-contamination

of our products with allergens.

Our validated quality assurance testing includes:

• Organoleptic testing to ensure proper appearance, color, aroma and flavor.

• Microscopic and Macroscopic inspection for foreign matter.

• HPTLC for identification, to verify purity and authenticity.

• ICP-MS for heavy metal analysis.

• Microbiology testing for pathogens such as E. coli and salmonella.

• Chemical analyses for moisture content, volatile oil, ash and acid

insoluble ash.

Quality Assurance

High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography (HPTLC) In compliance with cGMPs, Starwest currently uses HPTLC testing,

which is an essential tool to efficiently and accurately determine product

identity and purity. By quantifying or comparing the distribution patterns

of marker compounds in different solvent systems (unique to each plant

and class of actives) against our proprietary Botanical Reference library,

our laboratory personnel can confidently and accurately verify product

identity and identify known adulterates.

Quality Assurance

Inductively Coupled Plasma- Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) Inductively Coupled Plasma- Mass Spectrometry is used to measure trace

metals in a variety of solutions. ICP-MS offers a very sensitive, specific and

reproducible way to determine heavy metal concentration. It can identify and

quantify each metallic impurity with high sensitivity; and, can be used to test

for the entire Periodic Table in one analysis. ICP detection limits for most

elements are in the part-per-billion (ppb) range.

Manufacturing and Processing Facilities

STARWEST BOTANICALS has a recognized track record as a manu-

facturer and processor of herbal products. Utilization of proven, specialized

manufacturing processes, equipment, and skilled technical personnel ensures

consistent and uniform processing for precise manufacturing specifications.

Our up-to-date milling facility and blending equipment have the capability

to produce several million pounds of finished product annually.

Our high-speed powder mill can produce up to 10,000 pounds of fine powder per shift.10

Starwest is a Certified Organic Processor and is a Kosher Certified facility.

Our manufacturing facilities adhere to all federal and state cGMPs for all

botanicals, herbs and spices, including dietary supplements.

Custom Processing ServicesIn addition to complete manufacturing, milling, blending, and formulating

services, Starwest also offers new product development and custom product

formulation from concept to finished product. Whether you have your own

formula, or need assistance in completing or developing a new one, Starwest’s

skilled personnel can assist in creating your customized product, and help

you find solutions for your application and development needs. Orders are

processed promptly and reliably to necessary specifications.Our blending equipment has the versatility to produce from 100- to 3,000-pound batches.

The semi-automated, high-speed weigh packer has the capability

to weigh and pack up to 15,000 pounds of product daily.

efficiently manage a sizeable product inventory and maintain adequate
