    PURPOSE OF THE PORTFOLIO

This practicum portfolio is made to ensure compliance with applicable laws and

regulations, review performance in during the pre-service teaching training, identify

successful methods and practices that can, when shared, serve to enhance continuous

improvement of the Pre-service Teaching program and the system itself as a whole and

also to document the principles, philosophies, theories, teaching techniques, and strategies

of teaching I have acquired through the help of my dear professors for the past few years of

studying education inside the four corners of PUP Quezon City Branch that I have applied in

    this pre-service teaching.

    Wisdom

for I help to shape the mind.

    Equip me to teach with

    Truth

For I help to shape a conscience.

    Encourage me to teach with

    Vision

For I help to shape the future.

    Empower me to teach with

    Love

For I help to shape the world.

  • Pre-Service Teaching Portfolio Badillos, Neorose A.

    TEACHERS PRAYER

    Lord, please bless my students

And help them as they grow:

    May I teach them faithfully

The things they need to know.

So they may face the future

    Knowing theyve prepared,

And when they think of school days,

May they know their teacher cared.

    Amen.

  • Pre-Service Teaching Portfolio Badillos, Neorose A.

I believe that teachers must consider teaching as a lifestyle and not just a job.

The goals of the teacher to his students encompass much more than relaying

    out-of-context facts to passive students.

Teachers are facilitators of the academic, personal and ethical learning and

    growth of the students.

To be able to accomplish your goals as a teacher, it is important to establish a

mutual respect, honest rapport with students, a relationship in which

communication is of the highest priority.

Academic learning must begin with motivation and inspiration.

Students deserve an educator's passion for both the subject at hand and

    learning as a whole.

Teaching and learning become a simultaneous journey for both the teacher

and students when students' energy is aroused by a teacher's genuine

intensity for learning, because everyone is ready and willing to participate in

    active learning.

Personal growth is accomplished when a teacher adopts a mentoring role.

Displaying warmth and compassion shows students that teachers love them

and are empathic, feeling human beings. One-on-one mentoring involves

  • Pre-Service Teaching Portfolio Badillos, Neorose A.

personal conversations about goals, and taking time to share ideas and

    experiences.

To be a mentor to every student, a teacher must project positivity, exhibit

flexibility and confidence, set high expectations for oneself, and demonstrate

    fairness and consistency.

I believe that all children have the ability to learn and the right to a quality

education. All youths, regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, and capabilities

should have the opportunity to learn from professional, well-informed

teachers who are sophisticated and knowledgeable, both in their area of

    expertise and life.

When teachers nurture individual talents in each child, educators can build

self-esteem and may encourage a lifelong skill. By supporting these special

abilities, teachers can, for example, guide students' research, and students

can, in turn, enlighten teachers about subjects in which they may not be as

    knowledgeable.

In choosing to become a teacher, I have made the commitment to myself and

my future students to be the best academic, personal, and ethical role model I

can be. It is my goal to have a mutually enriching teaching career by keeping

an open mind and continually communicating with my peers and students. I

am prepared to rise to the challenges of teaching in the 21st century, and I

promise to try to provide an honest, well-rounded education to every student

    I encounter.

    DAILY JOURNAL

    January 5, 2015

Today is the day we (#TeamCielito) is starting our Practicum in Cielito Zamora High

School. CZHS in divided into two campuses, Rizal Campus, where the 4th

    year students are and

where the principal stays most of the time, and the Bonifacio campus where Grade 7 to Grade 9

are located, it is the bigger campus. We are introduced to the Principals Secretary Maam Chi.

We are also introduced to the Principal Sir Tirso R. Dela Cruz V. He divided us into two

groups, I and Ruselle Tero will be teaching in the Rizal Campus while Baquiran, Canillo and

Talplacido will be teaching at Bonifacio campus so they went to the other campus immediately.

Sir Pip (Mr. Principal) advised us to teach for 2 hours only and the remaining time must be

consumed in helping our Cooperating Teachers curricular and co-curricular activities. Our CTs

have a total of 4 hours teaching thats why we are advised to take half of their total teaching

time. After meeting the Principal, Maam Chi introduced us to the TLE Coordinator Maam

Mallari, and then to my CT Mr. Ariel F. De Pablo. I had the time to have an introduction to

my CTs methods and schedule; he told me everything I must be familiar of.

After meeting the important people, we went back to Maam Chi to be enrolled in

Biometrics. It is the system they use instead of using time cards; the system will scan your

finger print and poof! You are in. They will just register their names in the system, everyday

faculty members and the maintenance crew will time in by the system and a log book. The

system will print a monthly report of your attendance.

    January 6, 2015

  • Pre-Service Teaching Portfolio Badillos, Neorose A.

Today is my official first day in my attendance. He introduced me to his students in

sections Benin, Botswana, Cameroon and Chad. I observed my CTs classes. All his 4 classes

ended at 9:20 a.m. We went to the faculty room and he introduced me to some teachers. Then,

he gave me a reference book of our lessons; he also gave me a copy of Budget of Work.

    January 7, 2015

I continue observing my CTs classes. Mr. De Pablo reviewed his students about their

past lesson in table settings. We had 2 classes for today.

    January 8, 2015

Today is the 1st day of their 3

rd periodical exam so I am assigned to watch over my CTs

advisory class before he went to obey Sir Pips assignment for him. I was exposed to real life

situation of how students behave in their examination.

    January 9, 2015

    Today is the 2nd

    day of their 3rd

periodical exam. Today I was the only one to watch over

the students for the whole exam period. I experienced facilitating students during their exams.

Some of the teacher helped me in managing the rotation of test papers from one section to our

    section and vice versa.

    January 12, 2015

Today we checked the test papers and get the Frequency of Correct Response. By 9:30

a.m. some teachers in the faculty office are free so I got the chance to talk to them. They advised

me on how to review effectively and do some rituals to pass the LET board exam.

  • Pre-Service Teaching Portfolio Badillos, Neorose A.

    January 13, 2015

My Sir De Pablo told me that I will officially start teaching on January 20, 2015

(tuesday) and that I must start my lesson plan and visual aids. He also told me that hell be

looking up on my Lesson Plan every day and check it every Wednesday.

    January 14, 2015

Today is CZHS Rizal Campus Field trip!

    January 15-16, 19, 2015

    Papal Visit.

    January 20, 2015

I officially started teaching sections Cameroon and Chad. Today I made visual aids for

our topic: Bartending and the importance of Bartending. At first, I am a bit nervous because my

CT is observing my class, but then I see it as moral support so I gained strength and confidence.

    January 21, 2015

Today is CZHS Mock NAT exam as preparation to the coming NAT exam in February.

    Results are recorded.

    January 22, 2015

Today we reviewed our previous lesson in bartending, discussed a new topic and

recorded the Frequency of Correct response. My CT told me that I must not give all the answer

in our topic like spoon-feeding; I must motivate them by questioning so that students will

  • Pre-Service Teaching Portfolio Badillos, Neorose A.

formulate and make them think of the topic. As an additional motivation and suspense, my

system in recitation is calling my students by their seat number, so it will be random but if

students volunteers to answer, I give them the chance instead.

    January 23, 2015

Today is the first time I used PowerPoint Presentation in my class. I used laptop, PPT,

speakers and video presentation in our topic: proper selection of tools and equipment, uses of bar

tools and equipment, care and maintenance. I used PPT so that I could show and familiarize the

students to the actual appearance of bar tools and equipment.

    January 26, 2015

Today I asked my Cooperating Teacher about what could be a good topic for my final

demonstration. So he advised me to take Food Management as my topic. He advised me to

study it as early as now so that Ill be prepared while our day for final demo is coming.

    January 27, 2015

Today, I used chalk method of teaching since I know my topic already and I feel that this

is a good method to use so that the attention of my students will be at me instead of that Im

lecturing and they are writing whats written on my visual aid. They also had a quiz regarding

our topic yesterday and today. 90% of the class got a score ranging from 7-10.

Maam Maricel Malapira a TLE teacher in CZHS Rizal Campus had her students

prepare mock tail drinks and have it tasted and evaluated by the members of the faculty.

Most of the teachers today are encoding grades for the 3rd

    grading period and preparing

    for tomorrows reading of grades.

  • Pre-Service Teaching Portfolio Badillos, Neorose A.

    January 28, 2015

Today, my CT had his reading of grades with his class subject teachers.

    January 29, 2015

Today, I get to observe Maam Malapiras class in section Madagascar. They had a quiz

about alcoholic beverages. It feels good being trusted by senior teachers.

In my class, I discussed a new topic preparing cocktail drinks and reviewed my students

    for their long quiz tomorrow.

    January 30, 2015

The students from section Benin, Botswana, Cameroon, and Chad took the Long Quiz I

personally formulated though I made a couple of confusing mistakes. One is in the modified true

or false, and one is from the multiple choices. But then students scores ranges from 14-37, not

bad, but then the lowest score makes me upset for having that couple of mistakes.

    February 2, 2015

Today, I reviewed my students with their previous lesson on January 31, 2015 (Saturday

class), wherein Sir Depablo my CT taught garnishes, its importance and how to use it.

    February 3, 2015

Today we have discussed a lesson that we have skipped from last week: Imporatant tips

and techniques when preparing cocktail drinks. This is an important topic that the students will

be using for their mock tail preparation.

  • Pre-Service Teaching Portfolio Badillos, Neorose A.

    February 4, 2015

Its my first time eating with some of the teachers in our faculty. It is also the first day of

demonstration of sections Benin and Botswanas mock tail preparation.

    February 5, 2015

It is also the first day of mock tail preparation demonstration of sections Cameroon,

Chad. The scenario in Cameroon went well but in Chad, it happen that only one group was able

    to demonstrate.

It is also my first time eating lunch with my CT.

I was also called to observe a class reviewing for Critical Thinking Skills Test as

preparation for the coming National Achievement Test. The objective of the teachers calling me

for observation is to be able to know how to answer the test through the efficient techniques that

a student can use in the subject and be able to teach one section with this topic.

    February 6, 2015

Today is the last day of mock tail preparation demonstration for sections Benin,

Botswana, Cameroon and Chad. I congratulated them for successfully performing in their

activity. In all the mock tail drinks I have tasted, I must say that the students have a job well

done in the activity; the most delicious mock tail I have tasted was the Pina with Coconut Milk

from section Benin and Cucumber Punch from section Cameroon.

    February 9, 2015

  • Pre-Service Teaching Portfolio Badillos, Neorose A.

Today we discussed about the factors contributing to successful catering service. The art

of questioning is a good strategy to be used in class for them to formulate and realize that the

lesson is applied in real life situation and that they participate in the class in a productive way.

    February 10, 2015

Today we discussed about the guidelines for successful catering and the qualities of a

caterer. It is a very good topic to help them realize that they students can be qualified as a

    caterer.

    February 11, 2015

Today is Values education class so we do not have classes. So what my CT and I did was

to eat together and then he handed me the FORM 137 of his class to help him check if there are

errors, arrange it alphabetically. Through this task, I am able to know and be exposed in the

    procedures in record keeping.

    February 12, 2015

Today I prepared a PPT presentation for our topic: factors to consider in the selection of

food service workers for catering business, tools and equipment in catering business, basic

cooking equipment, transportation and hauling equipment, and table appointments/ implements. I

used PPT so that the students will be able to identify and familiarize the appearance of the actual

tools and equipment. To make an exciting twist to the discussion, I used the concept of the

famous game 4 Pics, 1 Word. In my presentation, I have 4 pictures that will refer to a certain

tool or equipment, regardless of how many words a tool or equipment is made up of. The result

of the activity was apparent in the result of their quiz, 98% of the class got 8/8 items.

  • Pre-Service Teaching Portfolio Badillos, Neorose A.

    February 13, 2015

Today, the students had their weekly long tests with 30 items that I personally

formulated. The result of the test is good. 94% of the students from all the sections I handled

got the passing score. So that made me happy.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE SITE OF PRACTICE TEACHING

    HISTORY

Cielito Zamora High School was called as Camarin

High School Cielito Zamora Annex before. It is located in the

heart of Cielito Homes and Cristina Homes, Caloocan City. It is

barely 15 minutes drive from Novaliches proper. It is

specifically situated in front of barangay 177.

It was establish in 1986 with Mrs. Adoracion Ramirez as the principal. There were

three levels, the first year, second year and third year. It had a total enrolment of 306 with

eight teachers. The students were housed in a four room building in the same campus

where the elementary building was situated. It was constructed by Mr. and Mrs. Zamora

and was donated to Caloocan government. The students did not have a place to rest and

relax and most of all, no library to study and research during free time.

The enrolment had increased to 17.32 percent with 10 teachers with complete high

school from First year to Fourth year. The high school stayed in the elementary compound

for five years. Mrs. Adoracion Ramirez was the principal from the year 1986-1991. From

1991-1994 Mrs. Lucila de Guzman was the principal. The year 1991 was a lucky year for

the students and teachers. It was the same year that the new Head Teacher was assigned in

the person of Mrs. Clarita Martinz. Although the school had the building, it still lacked

  • Pre-Service Teaching Portfolio Badillos, Neorose A.

facilities like library, canteen and playground where the students should stay and held their

    activities.

With the collaborated efforts of Mrs. De Guzman and Mrs. Martinez the new building

was constructed in the eastern part of Cristina Homes. Mrs. Fornoles was assigned as the

new principal; it was on October 3, 1993 when the third and fourth year students were

moved to the new building. Mrs. Marinez transferred to Pangarap High School and Mr.

Victoria was appointed as the new School Head in November 1996. With his initiative, the

first building was named Rizal, occupied by the First and Second year students while the

Bonifacio Building was occupied by the Third and Fourth Year students.

Mr. Tirso R. Dela Cruz (also known as Sir Pip) was now the present principal of

Cielito Zamora High School. And Cielito before was divided into two, annex I (Rizal Campus

today) which is the main campus and annex II (Bonifacio Campus).

    MISSION

The dynamic in equipping the youth with knowledge of desirable values and

wholesome academic experiences indispensable in keeping face with the competitive

    changing world.

    VISION

A leader in the pursuit of culture of excellence.
