From the Chairman's deskAt the outset, I wish to congratulate the Principal, Heads

of Departments & Faculty of the College and the team for

the achievements enumerated in this issue. We are

growing from Strength to Strength in all aspects

providing wholesome technical education with values &

discipline. During this academic year new PG

programmes M.E VLSI Design & M.E CSE were started.

thRECAIN', the Association Inauguration of EEE was held on 13

August, 2012. The Chief Guest, Mr.S.Sathiya Kumar, Co-Founder of

M/s.Exintar, Coimbatore, spoke about the need for various skills and

importance of the team work. He also emphasized on the life skills and

The association of the Department of Mechanical Engineering & thSociety of Automotive Engineers India was inaugurated on 07

August, 2012 by Dr.Suresh Prabhu, Director of Mechanical Sciences,

UIT, Coimbatore. He highlighted on the innovative trends of

Mechanical Engineering and the use of new materials in hard core

engineering.

Mr. Ramesh, Managing Director, M/s.IFCO Tools, Coimbatore

emphasized the importance of communication in English.

thThe Inauguration of 'Eco & Literary Club' was organized on 07 Sep,

2012 for the students. Mr.R.Unni Krishnan, Former Principal, Sankara

Polytechnic College, Coimbatore & Mr.R.Mohammed Saleem, ECG

President, Ornithologist, Coimbatore were the guests. Mr.R.Unni

Krishnan suggested the students to read English dailies regularly in

order to update their vocabulary. He preceded his ideas on the

significance of body language and its vital role in effective

communication. Mr.R.Mohammed Saleem spoke. on the 'Importance of Nature'. Saplings were planted in the college premises in the

presence of Mrs.Shanthi Thangavelu, Correspondent, PPG Group of

Institutions and Dr.P.S.Senthil Kumar, Principal, PPGIT .The main

aim of this ECO club is to embalm the nature & also the environment.

Dr. L.P.Thangavelu, Chairman, PPG Group of Institutions inaugurated

the PG Courses- M.E. VLSI Design & M.E. Computer Science & thEngineering on 12 Sep, 2012. He narrated about technological

advancements and insisted upon learning cutting edge technologies.

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering, organized a thone day National Level Multimedia Competition on 07 Sep, 2012.

The competitions on making short films, Multimedia presentation,

Photographic Quiz, Animation, Logo Designing were conducted.

About 200 students from various colleges actively participated and

the winners were awarded prizes.

A red carpet welcome was given to our young buddies of the first year thstudents of PPGIT & PPG Business School on 05 Sep, 2012. The Chief

Guest, Mr.N.Subramaniam, Managing Director, M/s.Habasit Iakoka,

delivered an orientation speech for the freshers. Mr.Daniel Chandran

from the University of Technology, Australia was the guest of honor.

SEMINARS :

Mr. Ramesh, Web Designer, M/s.CSC Software View, Coimbatore

was the guest for a one day seminar on the 'Multimedia Presentation',

which was organized by the Department of Computer Science & thEngineering on 16 July, 2012. He encouraged the students to learn

multimedia by explaining the benefits and opportunities.

A seminar on Animation (Maya Image) was conducted by the thDepartment of Computer Science & Engineering on 29 August,

2012. Mr.Anand Kumar, Senior Programmer & Mr.Ismail, Senior

Programmer, M/s.Image Creative Ltd, Coimbatore were the guests.

They motivated the students to come out with innovative ideas and

gave hands on training in animation software.

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering, organized a

seminar on the topic 'Cloud Computing and Network Security' on rd03 Sep, 2012. The Chief Guest, Mr.Udhaya Kumar, Head of MOU

Universal IT, Coimbatore, dealt with the topic and explained the

security aspects.

thSeminar on 'Software Testing' was organized on 28 August, 2012.

Thiru Soma Valliappan, an eminent writer and an excellent orator in thTamil inaugurated the Tamil Mandram club on 08 August, 2012.

About 300 students from 30 reputed schools participated in Tamil

elocution, Poem writing, Essay writing, Handwriting, debate and

painting competitions. The function was headed and chaired, by the

Chairman, Dr.L.P.Thangavelu in the presence of Correspondent,

Mrs.Shanthi Thangavelu and Principal, Dr.P.S.Senthil Kumar.

Mr.K.Chokkalingam, renowned artist was the judge to finalize the

paintings done by the school students and prizes were awarded.

Soma Valliappan gifted 10 books to 10 students. These competitions

were conducted to salute the language Tamil and the importance was

given to Tamil literature and traditional culture.

College and won a cash award of Rs.2000.

'C Programming' was the topic which was presented by Parthiban in

Kumaraguru College of Engineering, Coimbatore and won the first

place with cash award Rs. 1000.

The Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering, th thorganized a workshop on 'Robotics & Automation' on 24 & 25

August, 2012 by Mr.Aravind Nadig, Managing Director, M/s.LI-2

Innovations Pvt. Ltd. Students gained knowledge about the robotics

board and its software, the method to read data from the sensors,

control the LED, DC motors and the buzzers during the workshop.

thPPGIT celebrated Independence Day on 15 August, 2012 in the

college premises. Dr.Thangavelu, Chairman of PPG Group of

Institutions hoisted the National Flag. Dr.P.S.Senthil Kumar,

Principal, PPGIT, addressed that the Independence Day is the time to

cherish memories about the freedom struggle and its leaders.

Students also delivered relevant speeches on Independence Day in

Mr. P.P.Joby, Head of the Department of Information Technology,

presented a paper on ‘A survey on threats & security schemes in

Wireless Sensor Networks’ at an International convention of

Innovations in Engineering & Technology for Sustainable

Development (IESTD), organized by Bannari Amman Institute of

Technology, Sathyamangalam on 4th Sept, 2012.

Fire & Safety Awareness Programme was conducted on behalf of thYouth Red Cross & NSS on 27 August, 2012. Mr.K.Murugan, Station

Fire Officer & Mr.K.J.Antony, a leading Fire Man of Fire & Rescue

services, Coimbatore & Nilgiris division, were the guests. They shared

their experience and also evoked the awareness for the students on

fire and safety procedures. A mock drill was organized to explain the

way of handling the fire extinguisher at the period of emergency. YRC

Two days Vision Screening Camp was organized on behalf of NSS th thfor all the students and faculty on 17 & 18 Sep, 2012 in the college

premises by The Eye Foundation, Coimbatore. Nearly 600 students &

50 faculties including non teaching staff, workers had their eye check

up. Each individual was examined and treated according to their eye

conditions. Students gained a better understanding the spectrum of

eye diseases and learned best practices through this camp.

He discussed on E-Governance, Power, IT, Manufacturing and

Education with the students. M/s.UTL works closely with many

semiconductor companies in India and abroad.

thTeachers' Day Celebration was held on 05 Sep, 2012.

Dr.P.S.Senthil Kumar, Principal, PPGIT spoke about the significance

of teachers in students' life and added that the teachers are the role

model for the students to become good citizens. He said that the best

gift the student can give his teacher is to outshine him. Guest of honor

Dr.R.Balasubramanian, Dean, PPGIT also spoke about the teaching

profession and its changing trends. He also suggested that a good

teacher is one who inspires the student to think on his own and find

solutions rather than giving the information that is existing. Exciting

compliments were given to the teachers on this happiest occasion.

2012. On this occasion, 60 children were invited for dinner which was

hosted by our Management. They were entertained with various

cultural programmes by our college students. A sum of Rs. 20,000

Orphanage.

thTo commemorate 125 birth centenary of Sri Ramanujam an Indian

Mathematician, PPGIT conducted Talent Search Examination 2012 th rdfor the 12 grade students on 23 Nov, 2012. Nearly 275 students from

various schools took up this examination to exhibit their talent. Rank

holders were recognized and scholarships were announced for the

students who are going to opt engineering as their career.

Tamil Nadu State Level Junior Red Cross Society organized a four th nddays programme from 29 Sep, 2012 to 2 Oct, 2012. 185 Junior Red

Cross Counselor from 64 educational districts of Tamil Nadu

participated in the seminar. Coimbatore District Collector

Mr.Karunakaran inaugurated the programme in PPGIT, addressed

the importance of Red Cross Society and the involvement of the

counselors to educate the public, civilians and students for their social

well being.

This has been structured by our students of EDC. The power saving

process of this will be established throughout the college in a short

span of time.

thOn 06 June, 2012 Faculty Development Programme was

conducted on the top ic 'Emot iona l In te l l igence ' by

Prof.U.Narendranath, CEO, Risk Management Institute, Malaysia.

The programme focussed on developing the mental ability of the

faculty when they face the challenge.

nd rdThe 2 & 3 year students of the Department of Civil Engineering,

have executed the project work for the National Institute of Technical

Teaching and Research under Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY) scheme of

Govt. of India. This project was sponsored by Tamilnadu Slum

Clearance Board (TNSCB). The students have carried out a socio-

economic survey in and around the Coimbatore region. The survey

has exposed the students to the environment and social conditions of

the slum and has created awareness to their social responsibility. This

project was partially funded to the tune of Rs.10, 000 by RAY, Govt.of

India.

P.Shanmugham participated in

the Virtual Baja conducted by thSAE INDIA on 24 August, 2012

at VIT, Bangalore and secured th112 place out of 855.

Our college students took part in

the rally organized by PPG Group thof Institutions on 25 Sep, 2012 to

create awareness of cancer

among the public and also to

educate the mass. The rally

started at Gandhipuram in Coimbatore and marched towards Park

grounds with placards, flux & slogans. Police Commissioner of

Coimbatore also participated. The rally ended with the meeting.

Pamphlets were distributed by the students of PPGIT. Our Chairman

Dr.L.P.Thangavelu paid homage to the Deputy Commissioner, Mrs.

Hema Karunakaran.

SOLAR POWER GENERATION & SOLAR POWERED CLASS

Society! The Unique Structure was designed by our students that

mark the glory of our state and society. An innovative project on 'Solar

Powered Systems for outdoor lighting solutions' was done in PPGIT

through Entrepreneur Development Cell (EDC). The existing solar

panel gives glory in the entrance of our college.
