TRANSCRIPT
Fashion is more than wearing good clothes it is about
presenting a person’s image in the society, we generally see
people accepting fashion due to the peer pressure, image in
the society and when a person wants a change to brighten his
life. There are many reasons behind what we wear.
Protection from cold, rain and snow: - mountain climbers
wear high-tech outwear to avoid frostbite and over-
exposure.
Physical attention:-many styles are worn to inspire
“chemistry”.
Emotions: - we dress “up” when we’re happy and “down”
when we’re upset.
Religious expression: - orthodox Jewish men wear long
black suits and Islamic women cover every part of their
body except their eyes.
Identification and tradition: - judges wear robes, people in
the military wear uniforms, brides wear long white
dresses.
Fashion as a Person’s Image
Garment Industry
Garment Construction popularly called as Pattern Engineering
has a great importance in the fashion design industry. Within
the sphere of technology industries, design technology is
perhaps the fastest growing today.
Fashion design runs the garment from:-
Eveningwear to sportswear
Women’s wear to menswear
Kids wear to knitwear
Garment Industry
In garment industry typically employs one of two methods to create a pattern.
The flat-pattern method where the entire pattern is
drafted on a flat surface from measurements.
The draping method involves creating a muslin mock-up
pattern by pinning fabric directly on a form.

Garment Industry
People need and want to feel smart and confident with the
dress they wear and for developing this a number of brands
and companies are working in developing that particular fit on
the body. The companies like Van Heuson, Dockers, Levis,
and Adidas etc. Are all providers of perfect fit and this is what
we learn at Dezyne E’cole through the art of pattern making.
A style line is a seam in a garment made primarily for the
purpose of its visual effect, rather than for the purpose of
shaping of structuring the garment.
In women’s wear I learnt 4 basic silhouettes these are:-

Case Study
A client for whom we need to create a style holds an important
position in a company. The company she works deals with
making of Adidas Shoes, she is the sales manager of that
company and needs a formal wear to be designed for her.
She has nearly a meeting with ten new officials everyday.
She want official colors and no fancy areas in her dress. Her
age group is between 30-35.
Observation & Solution
• Holds an important position in the company – powers
dress code should be used.
• Meeting with 10-12 new officials in a day – fabric finishes
must be use.
Wrinkle Resistant
Aroma Fabric
Stain Repellent
Water Repellent
• For an office going lady, there must be a formal dress code
and no fancy areas included.
Color Selection
Generally the colors used in official wear are the darker and
lighter shades of any color, instead of using bright and
attractive colors.
Light and dark colors are used because these colors do not
attract and gives a soothing effect to any personality.
A person can feel comfort and can present himself
accordingly.
Color Scheme
I select tints of the secondary color orange (peach) and pair it
with dark brown color. Here in my design, a light and a dark
shade is used.
Fabric Selection
Office wear is the dress which a person wear for his working
hours. So everyone wants a dress which is functional and
stylish too. Fabric is a basic need of any garment. The fabric
selection must be done according to the fabric properties,
e.g.- wrinkle resistant, stain resistant, hydrophilic, etc.
Generally man mane fibres are used for office wear fabrics
because most of the characteristics of other vegetable fibres
are included in these fibres or can be inserted by yarn
formation process. As a Fashion Designer I will use these
fabrics for the office wear.
