Praise the Warrior King

•Moses and the Red Sea point to the cross •They are death and resurrection events

•Moses and Israel come out of the wilderness to worship at God’s mountain •We will worship Christ on the mountain of

God forever

Exodus 15:1-3  15:1 Then Moses and the sons of Israel sang this song to the LORD, and said, “I will sing to the LORD, for He is highly exalted; The horse and its rider He has hurled into the sea. 2 “The LORD is my strength and song, And He has become my salvation; This is my God, and I will praise Him; My father’s God, and I will extol Him. 3 “The LORD is a warrior; The LORD is His name.

•What is Israel so overjoyed about? •The Lord is a man of war; a Warrior King!

•God is still at war with all sin and seeks to eradicate it

Exodus 15:4-5 4 “Pharaoh’s chariots and his army He has cast into the sea; And the choicest of his officers are drowned in the Red Sea. 5 “The deeps cover them; They went down into the depths like a stone.

9 “The enemy said, ‘I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; My desire shall be gratified against them; I will draw out my sword, my hand will destroy them.’

•Who is the enemy who’s defeat causes Israel so much joy? •Pharaoh’s chariot, his army, and his choicest officers

•God blows over the greatest military force on the planet with a breath from his nose •Whatever you’re facing it’s child’s play next

to God (make your list!)

•Remember how horrible and unrepentant the Egyptians have been •God has been gracious but his patience

doesn’t last forever (Psm 103:8-9)

Exodus 15:11 11 “Who is like You among the gods, O LORD? Who is like You, majestic in holiness, Awesome in praises, working wonders?

•Who is Yahweh? Who is like God in his holiness?

•Our God is determined to destroy evil- does this frighten you? •We need someone to take your place to face

God’s anger for you •We must liven gratitude that Jesus will not

tolerate evil •No need to fear- its part of God’s grace in

our lives!

•We especially want God to destroy the hidden sins in our lives (Psm. 19:12) •They are not hidden from God •They might be hidden from us •They fall under the same grace as every other sin;

they are forgivable •We can trust God with them

•We don’t usually judge our secret sins as harshly as our open sins

•“Sin is always trying to excuse itself and secret sin is the most likely to succeed.”

•Galatians 5:19-21

•We sing praises to God bc he hates sin and is working his holiness into us

Exodus 15:12-13 13 “You stretched out Your right hand, The earth swallowed them. 13 “In Your lovingkindness You have led the people whom You have redeemed; In Your strength You have guided them to Your holy habitation.

•The Red Sea crossing guaranteed their entrance into the Promised Land •Our future promised life with God in heaven is

guaranteed through Jesus’ death and resurrection

•Our Warrior King Jesus has finished the work of saving us to insure our forever life with God

Exodus 15:14-16 14 “The peoples have heard, they tremble; Anguish has gripped the inhabitants of Philistia. 15 “Then the chiefs of Edom were dismayed; The leaders of Moab, trembling grips them; All the inhabitants of Canaan have melted away. 16 “Terror and dread fall upon them; By the greatness of Your arm they are motionless as stone; Until Your people pass over, O LORD, Until the people pass over whom You have purchased.

•What about all of the little enemies we face between here and there?

•They experience dismay, terror, dread and melt away

•Once the Lord defeats the supreme enemy, of course he will defeat every other enemy (Phil. 4:11-13)

•God is working to remove every evil enemy that keeps you away from the fullness fo life with God

•What evil are you giving yourself to that keeps you from full life with God?

Exodus 15:17-18 17 “You will bring them and plant them in the mountain of Your inheritance, The place, O LORD, which You have made for Your dwelling, The sanctuary, O Lord, which Your hands have established. 18 “The LORD shall reign forever and ever.”

“I am full of joy and I trust the Lord to defeat every enemy and to see me through to the Promised Land of fullness in life with God. He has defeated death and sin, and He will

defeat every evil in my and in my life. Praise to the Lord our Savior, Jesus Christ, to him be

the glory, forever and ever, amen!”
