A five-day training coursecovering the practical aspects of pipeline pigging
THIS NEW training course is being developed to provide a wide-ranging overview of all aspects of pigging operations. From April,
2009, courses will be held twice-yearly at the CTDUT facility adjacentto Petrobras’ Duque de Caxias refinery, near Rio de Janeiro. Initially,the course will use the recently-inagurated 14-in, 120-m long, water-and nitrogen/air-driven test loop at the site, but from 2010 the coursewill be adapted to use the 2.5-km long 12-in crude oil and and 16-ingas test loops which are currently under construction.
The content of the course is being developed jointly by Penspen,Rosen Engineering, CTDUT, and Clarion/Scientific Surveys Ltd.Rosen Engineering, through its Rio de Janeiro base, has agreed toprovide cleaning-, geometry-, and intelligent tools for use during thecourse, along with its expert technicians.
Among subjects that the syllabus will cover will be:
✰ Pig trap doors: design, operation✰ Types of utility tool✰ Types of intelligent tool✰ Launch/receive trap design✰ Launching and receiving utility and intelligent tools✰ How to assess a tool’s performance✰ Signalling and pig location✰ Locating and reporting sample defects✰ Site safety: procedures and performance
The syllabus will include both hands-on exercises using the test loop(s),and classroom instruction, and include full documentation. Overnightaccommodation during the course will be provided in Rio de Janeiro,and transport for the approx. 1-hour journey to and from the facilityeach day will be by air-conditioned coach.
The first course will be held on 27 April - 1 May, 2009.The cost per delegate will be $5000.00, not including
acccommodation.The timetable for future occasions is being finalized.
