Goals of this Presentation
• Educate the prospective applicant about radiography
• Inform the prospective applicant of the types of work radiographers do
• Show the prospective applicant some of the equipment they may expect to work with

Responsibilities of a Radiographer
• Ensure that the correct exam is done on the correct patient
• Provide top quality images for the physician to use in diagnosing
• Send completed images to PACS archiving system
• Complete patient tracking and charges in computer system

Responsibilities of a Radiographer
• Educate the patient about preparations for exams as necessary
• Formulate exposure techniques to minimize patient’s radiation dose yet produce optimal images
• Practice radiation safety for patients, self, and co-workers

• Exposure factors are set on a control panel
• The patient is positioned • X-rays pass through the
patient and are collected on an image receptor (IR)
• Image is digitized and displayed on a monitor

• We are a very important part of the Emergency Department team
• Our patients range from ill to critically injured traumas

Fluoroscopy
• Often we do a specialized form of live view X-ray called Fluoroscopy
• Frequently this calls for the administration of contrast to better visualize structures
• The radiologist operates the equipment, we prepare materials and assist the doctor
• Often we take X-ray images when the doctor is finished

Mobile & Portable• Sometimes the patient
is too sick to come to the X-ray department, so we take the equipment to them
• Sometimes we have to take images in the operating room

• We have numerous clinical sites at which you can practice your new skills
• Each site has program approved clinical instructors and testers for additional clinical instruction
• Students learn on modern, state-of-the-art equipment
