Decoration/Resident Appreciation Submitted by Katey L. Genrich, University of Illinois at Chicago Type: Social, Educational, Diversity Time: 1-2 hours depending on number of participants Supplies: butcher block paper in various colors, markers, and scissors Cost: FREE (used supplies from the Res Life Office) - you could have some snack food if you want I really wanted a fun way to decorate the walls of our bare hallways. I decided to do life-size cut outs of the residents. We had a program called "Floor Appreciation". About 20 residents laid down in the lounge and traced each other, then cut themselves out. Everyone had a fun time thinking of poses to do and I laughed so much while watching them. Next we taped their cut outs to the walls in the hallway and the other residents wrote nice things about them on each cut out. It was a really cool way for residents to show appreciation and decorate the halls at the same time. We did it in the month of November so you could also use the theme of "Why I am thankful for you". All the residents who participated enjoyed themselves and people that walk by our hall are envious of our awesome decorations! I also added signs like "Don't Hate, Appreciate.
