PowerTrials: Creating Pre-Screening Rules

A Pre-Screening Rule compares the criteria set by ethics approved protocol inclusion/exclusion criteria against the patient database within the ieMR.

Pre-Screening Rules will only work with the codified data. Free text fields cannot be screened.

Filling Out the Data Collection Worksheet (DCW)

A Data Collection Worksheet (DCW) template is provided to build the Pre-Screening Rule.

Boolean Operators e.g, AND/OR can be used in the DCW, to combine or exclude as required.

1. Protocol Mnemonic column: Fill in theMnemonic for your study (there is a 40character limit to this field.

2. Inclusion/ Exclusion Criteria column: Valid valuesare Inclusion OR Exclusion.

3. Gender column: Valid values are Male ORFemale OR Indeterminate.

4. Indigenous Status column: will not be used.

5. Age Range column: state the age range youwould like to screen.

7. Problem column: this should be text thatdescribes the Diagnosis code

There may be multiple codes to describe a disease, please ensure to use multiple associated diagnosis to cover any possibility that has been recorded against the patient. For example; Stroke, Haemorrhagic stroke, ischaemic stroke are all possible recorded diagnoses for stroke.

8. Allergies column: List allergy codes for exclusionor inclusion if any.

9. Order column: Screen for orders that may berecorded against the patients chart using codefrom the Orders Catalogue.

10. Meds (Orderables) column: Screen for patients thathave used a particular medication eitherdocumented as a home med or ordered on aprevious encounter. Fill in the medication namefrom the Orders Catalogue.

11. Meds Information column: Optional parametrer ifyou wish to provide more information about htrenmeds you want to screen for (e.g, Dose, route).
