“Why do you bother – are you really making a difference?” This question has been asked by many people and I give the same simple response. “Compared to the needs of our hurting world, we haven’t made a big dent – but in the lives of the tens of thousands of people we have engaged with, their world has been transformed!”But we don’t and can’t do it on our own. Each of you reading this has been part of our remarkable Entrust journey as we actively search for and find, multiple opportunities to help in some of the toughest places on earth. We don’t select the easy locations or the quick fixes. We seek to do

what Jesus requested, by taking care of the widows, the orphans, the poor and marginalised in society. We are deeply concerned for those stuck in a debilitating cycle of poverty that crushes the human spirit and renders people helpless. Money does not fix poverty. Over the last ten years we have learned time and time again, that trusted relationships are the key to empowering people to take care of themselves. It’s our relationship with YOU that makes this possible. With all our heart, thank you.

- Richard Beaumont, CEO

The past year has seen encouraging activities in governance and forward planning including our first combined Board and Staff strategic planning retreat and the commencement of a Board Internship program introducing interested persons to our governance and management processes.

The Investment Committee led by Matthew Lemke and the Project Committee led by Michael Woods have contributed greatly to the effective operation of the organisation along with every member of our staff team. We are grateful for the quality and enthusiasm of both our implementing and donor partners and look forward to another year of serving those in need.

- Stuart Brown, Chairman of the Board

FROM THE CHAIR.

FROM THE CEO.

HISTORY.Entrust Foundation has generous and humble beginnings. Eugene Veith started his transport enterprise in the mid-1930’s and grew it to become the largest parcel delivery business in Melbourne by the mid 80’s.

Eugene’s Christian faith inspired him to help the world’s poor by giving away his profit, drawing only a basic wage for himself. He distributed an estimated $23 million in his lifetime!

Entrust Foundation was formed in 2008 to continue the legacy Eugene started. We have trusted partnerships with 55 overseas organisations in Africa, India and Asia. We regularly connect, visit and complete our due diligence on each of the 70 projects we manage across more than 15 countries.

Visiting our partners is the best way to build and strengthen relationships; the cornerstone of our partnerships. It also provides us with the opportunity to advise, mentor and encourage them. We help develop capacity, ensure funds are used wisely and see that everything is on track for the best possible results - something we can only do well, face to face.

IMPACT THROUGH CLEAN WATER & SANITATIONClean, safe water is a fundamental human need for drinking, cooking and personal cleanliness. Polluted water isn’t just dirty—it’s deadly. At least 844 million people in the world do not have clean water. Some 1.8 million people die every year of diarrhoeal diseases alone, such as cholera. Entrust supports water projects which help prevent infection, illness and death and provide sustainable water solutions for families and communities

THIS YEAR WE HAVE:• Educated thousands of children through schools in Zimbabwe and Cambodia on the importance

of water-borne diseases and good hygiene practices

• Built six sustainable water solutions on a remote island in Lake Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo ensuring clean water for thousands of people

• Trained local communities to install and maintain their own septic systems and water storage facilities in Kalimantan, Indonesia

• Assisted ethnic minority hill tribes in remote areas of northern Thailand to build sustainable gravity-fed water systems which has drastically improved the health of impoverished communities

AGUS’ STORY

Agus was part of the water management team in a village that was assisted by one of our partners. The whole village worked for 12 months to install eights tanks of differing sizes and kilometres of pipes so that all 71 households now have continuous access to clean water.

When asked about the impact this project was having on the community, Agus mentioned health benefits, an increase in productivity and empowerment to do more activities together and share their resources. But for him personally? More water means more showers and cleaner clothes so now everyone smells a whole lot better!

IMPACT THROUGH EDUCATIONIt is no secret that a good education can change a life. At Entrust we believe education is a powerful tool that can change the world for the better. Investing in education yields significant community development benefits. Entrust supports education projects which reduce poverty, boost economic growth and raise income for families and communities. We support projects which increase the opportunity of having a healthy life, reduce maternal deaths and combat diseases such as HIV and AIDS.

WE SUPPORTED PROJECTS SUCH AS:• Schools and education programs in Myanmar along the Thai/Burma border where refugees

are desperate to provide education for their young people

• Developing a pop-up school’s curriculum in Zimbabwe for those unable to access education due to poverty

• “Night School for the Neglected” in India which enables adults to access classes in literacy amongst the low-caste people groups

• Working with local government schools to improve teaching practices in Laos

SATISH’S STORY

Satish grew up in a very poor family. Tragically, at age 14, Satish witnessed his father’s death when he set fire to himself and the house. Our partners stepped in providing education, shelter and support to Satish and his family who were left destitute.

Satish was able to finish his education during these very difficult years thanks to this support. Satish went on to work in both the USA and Australia gaining valuable skills and insights with the aim of returning to his school to help them with their vision. He is now the Business Manager at the school, putting back into the organisation that impacted his life so dramatically.

RESCUED AT 18 MONTHS

16 million people are exploited for labour, 4.8 million are sexually exploited and 4.1 million are exploited in state-imposed forced labour (Source: Human Rights First 2018). Entrust is passionate about helping these people – especially children – with trafficking prevention, rescue and rehabilitation together with survivor and community empowerment initiatives to bring a permanent end to trafficking.

OVER THE PAST 12 MONTHS WE HAVE ASSISTED OUR PARTNERS TO:• Provide education about trafficking to school-aged children and communities through interactive

workshops in northern Thailand

• Started working with a new partner to tackle the insidious seafood/fishing industry trafficking in Bangkok, Thailand

• Work with sexually exploited and at-risk children in the inner city and slum areas of Phnom Penh, Cambodia

• Support a safe house in Bali, Indonesia for young women rescued from trafficking situations

At 18 months of age, baby Nicha was used by a “family” of professional beggars. She was especially “valuable” as she was used as a prop by a beggar who posed as her mother in a sinister performance for financial gain. Thankfully, she was rescued by our partners. However, they found her to be incredibly lethargic – slow to move and generally unwell. They discovered her tiny body had been regularly subjected to drugs to keep her this way. As the days and weeks passed, she gradually improved to become a bright, active young girl. Today Nicha is engaged in school and life. She is a bright child with a promising future! In fact, she is testament to the difference a loving, caring and nurturing environment can make.

RACHEL’S STORY

Around the globe, approximately 767 million people are living on less than $2.40 per day (Source: World Bank 2018). Empowering the poor with vocational training and microloans enables sustainable business opportunities, builds hope and dignity and reduces dependence on aid and handouts.

PROJECTS WE ENABLED INCLUDE: • Vocational training for the Bihari people in Bangladesh to learn highly marketable skills such as

tailoring and electrical repairs

• Improving agricultural practices and introducing new cash crops such as cardamom in northern Laos to increase food security

• Vocational training in jewellery-making and personal development in Yangon, Myanmar for young girls rescued from trafficking

• A “Village Coffee Processing” income-generating project for poor farmers in eastern Uganda resulting in funds to send children back to school and to improve health through better nutrition and access to medicines

For a teenage, uneducated girl with a young baby in Uganda, life is tough. Our partners approached Rachel to join their vocational training school in impoverished eastern Uganda to learn hairdressing. She was grateful for the chance to learn a skill. She excelled and was asked to come back as a teacher after just one year!

With courage, persistence and encouragement she also learnt how to bake cakes through the vocational training school – a very important part in any Ugandan celebration and became well-known in the community for her skill. With some business advice, she has now established a cake-selling business which is doing well and she is able to support herself and her young child.

GIVING WHILE LIVING.NO FUSS GENEROSITY.

Deciding to be generous is not difficult for most of us. Knowing where to give is a much harder decision. Entrust Capital is a donor-advised fund managed by Entrust Foundation that enables partners to be generous - with no fuss. We can help supporters achieve their personal giving goals ensuring 100% of your donation gets to those who need it most.

Leave a lasting legacy. After taking care of your family, leaving a gift in your will to Entrust Capital is a long-lasting act of generosity. Your donation can be directed to the cause(s) you are passionate about and you can be assured it will bring hope and change in the lives of the forgotten poor.

2008 was a tumultuous year. We were in the middle of the Global Financial Crisis, no one knew how far the share market would fall – or if it would ever recover!

It seemed like folly in 2008 to launch a new foundation to help the poorest on the planet. Who would give? Would it work? Maybe we were just dreaming.

As we look back over the last ten years it is apparent the launch timing was perfect. In an age of uncertainty, donors increasingly want value for their hard-earned dollar with high touch, low cost projects, where their money is used to directly impact the world’s poorest.

We experienced God’s provision with increasing funds year on year, through a growing base of engaged donors meeting our capacity. More projects, more partners, more gifts, thousands of lives impacted in Africa, India and Asia.

Thank you for being part of our journey and standing with us as we impact more and more people.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING. Trusted relationships are at the heart of what we do at Entrust. With Donors and with Partners.

Entrust has been a vital partner for our family with our international

development giving for several years. We value both Richard’s ability to find

high-impact, low visibility projects throughout South East Asia and

also his skill in developing a strong rapport and deep trust with the people leading these projects. We continue to be grateful for

Entrust and the great work they do all around the world.

Having Jenny and Richard come to visit has been such

a huge help to us, so strengthening and

encouraging so I want to thank you again for giving

so freely of your time, insight and wisdom.

Entrust operates with integrity and does the ground work to find

projects that are worthwhile. It operates on very low overheads and all of the money given goes to help the people on the ground and strengthens the legitimacy of local communities. I join my

resources with theirs to multiply the impact.

We love Entrust because of what they do up front and behind the

scenes. I have met with over 20 large international NGOs here in Indonesia looking to partner and it isn’t all as it looks. It’s very easy to write reports

and send photos to donors. The Entrust team visits us and invites

their donors onsite to see and experience what we do firsthand.

We may not be able to fix the poverty problem but with Entrust we know that 100%

of what we give goes to projects that help many people in great

need. Entrust continually sends us reports and meets with us personally to update us on where the need is greatest. We know that what we

give makes a real difference.
