EN61000-3-2 harmonic current

EN61000-3-2 describes the permissible harmonic current emissions for devices with an input current of up to 16 A per phase.

LED driver with less than 25Watt has no limit values for harmonic.

In case the Driver has an effective input power larger than 25 W, the limit shown in the Table 2 has to be achieved.

Power factor requirement

The power factor requirement of non-directional and directional LED lamps with integrated control gear is specified shown in Table.

Although EN61000-3-2 harmonic current of EMC directive does not regulate LED driver less than 25Watt, it is however regulated in the directive of Ecodesign.

60335 Modification

Application: Cleaning machine Requirement:

System should meet 60335 24V/300W, enclosed type PSU meet 60335-1

MW proposal: MSP-300-24 modify cross capacitors x 2

Result: Original CB as reference. Certify body approved system for 60335

Medical with MOOP

Application: Lighting for Refrigerator Requirement:

System should meet 60335 24V/240W, LED power supply PSU meet 61347 and 60335-1 + 60335-2-89

MW proposal: HLG-240H-24 modify cross capacitors x 2

Result: MW is applying 60335 certificates with -1 and -2-89. Customer will higher flexibility and lower cost when

they use the same PSU in their different projects

Application: coffee machine Requirement:

24V/150W, enclosed type or open frame No load power consumption PSU meet 60335-1

MW proposal: RSP-150-24 standard unit

Result: Customer prefer for cost concern. They get confirmation from certify body that RS-150

with 2 cross capacitors is sufficient for their approval. MW modify according to customer requirement but do

not guarantee 60335.

Questions: Can I apply 60335 on RSP-150 series?

Answer: Yes RSP-150 can apply for 60335-1 CB

report and certificate. But without -2, it is not a

complete LVD safety, so the CE will still base on

60950/61558

Questions: Why does Mean Well apply 61558 for RSP-

150 Answer: In the safety standard development, 61558 is more

close to 60335. for example, 60335 refer to 61558 for the

transformer, further, 61558 also has a more strict safety distance

rules. A power supply with 61558 can easily meet 60335-1 requirements if the special terms on 60335 are being

concerned. Which means when customer taking a 61558 PSU to

the certified body, they can skip a lot of test and only focus on the

difference. Save time and money.

Questions: What is Mean Well plan for 60335 power

supply Answer: Refer to Wen/Ted. We will create a series of non-PFC

enclosed type <150W for 60335-1. New medical open frame type will also take 60335-1

into concern.

Questions: Can RS-50 (60950) apply for 60335

Answer: No it is not possible without major redesign of

transformer and PCB. At least it is how Mean Well understood it.

However, it is always suggested to check with customer and their

testing house what is their opinion about meeting 60335-1;

sometimes there is a surprise.

Questions: How about the EMC for Household

Electronics ?

Answer: The corresponding EMC regulation is EN 55014.

It is more or less similar to 55011/55022, but again with

additional tests. PSU that can pass 55011/55022 has very

high chance to pass 55014 also.

Questions: EN 62233 what is that ?

Answer: Basically, it tells you whether the EM wave of the

product at your hand is harmful to you… Measurement methods for electromagnetic field of household appliances and similar apparatus with regard to human exposure. Previously defined in 50366, is a standard to evaluate

the influence of EM field to human. It is a must for GS

mark product. The requirements are different for various

applications. Final evaluation should be done at system level.

Questions: Does USA also apply 60335?

Answer: There is UL 60335 available but it is not popular.

In general, for US market, the power supply can always apply

UL1012 or UL1310. For the final application, there might be

other specific UL standards for that.
