How many of you are involved with planning a faculty development conference?

(1/3 of the audience was currently involved in faculty development)

What are the biggest challenges?

Audience responses:

•Finances•Scheduling when faculty are available•Mustering resources•Gaining faculty interest

At Saint Anselm College, the challenges around our week-long Summer Faculty Institute looked like this:

Limited to 7 participants

Many of the same facultywere participating

No General Sessions

Interest had waned

Engage more faculty

Who is our learner? How do we engage him?

BYOD - We don’t know what is in his physical backpack

BYOApp – We don’t know what is in his digital backpack

Outcomes

What worked well•One third of the faculty attended SFI ’13 overall•Fifteen faculty members spend the week with us•Compressed IT&D strategic planning session•Roughly 50% of cohort gave their flipped lessons in the Fall. •Increased collaboration this year with faculty – not just about “tools”•Attendance was used for IT&D and Dean’s Office performance metrics •Increased CTE and Library interest in SFI ‘14 collaboration•We turned one of our largest detractors into an evangelist

Not so much…•Vendor participation•Roughly 50% of cohort gave their flipped lessons in the Fall. IT&D needed to do more follow up to help people stay on track.

Ongoing SFI Experience via EC

What about SFI ‘14!

Same Formula•General track•Cohort track•Lots of food

Plus•Media Monday•Cohort peer mentors from SFI ’13•Increased IT&D follow up after Institute

Thank you for your interest!
