Apostle’s CornerDo we understand the anointing? If you look around most social networking websites today (Facebook, MySpace, etc.), you will most likely see a lot of people talking about “anoint-ing.” They’ll quote from the Bible: “Touch not mine anoint-ed!” They will talk about how gifted they are and what they are doing and what they are thinking and what God should do for them and...does anyone notice the common theme? They are always talking about themselves!

Today I see a lot of people who are self-appointed and self-anointed. They view their calling as doing God a favor, rather than working in His service. Such a conceited at-titude makes me step back and realize today’s church has no concept of what anointing is or what it means to have or walk in an anointing.

Anointing is God’s grace for a specifi c calling or task. It is unction, ability, and fl ow to do what God has asked of us. Our anointing is God’s equipping for His purpose. In the natural, what we do may seem impos-sible, but with God’s anointing, we are fully competent and capable of doing what He has asked of us. Simply put, the anointing is the Holy Spirit working for our good and for

our equipping, that we may work more effi ciently as repre-sentatives of God and Christ in this world, in this day and age.

Having an anointing is a won-derful thing. Some people are anointed to sing, some people are anointed to preach, some people are anointed to teach, some people are anointed to counsel others, and still, some people are anointed to use other gifts. Some people have a diversity of giftings that work within their anointing. What we must remember is that when walking in an anointing, we recognize the anointing is not about us. No matter how much we hear about self-esteem, we need to keep the right focus that the point of having an anointing is about God, not feel-ing good about ourselves. God does not give us spiritual gifts to puff ourselves up; it is to build up His Kingdom. We should never fi nd ourselves talking more and more about us, but about what God is doing in, for, and through us and what He is doing in, for, and through oth-ers as well.

Being anointed by God is a truly wonderful thing. With this understanding, it is some-thing to be cherished and upheld - not abused. If we aren’t anointed by God but self-anointed, it will show in arrogance rather than humil-ity. As more and more people rise up due to easier mediums by which to convey messages, it is all the more important we honor what God has placed within each of us and call falsely anointed people exactly what they are: imposters. How do we show forth our respect for God’s anointing? To walk as He has called us and do what He has appointed, that all will see everything we do and give glory to God, our Father, in heaven.

Many blessings,

Apostle Dr. Lee Ann

What do you know? Most of us can remember being in school. We were required, according to the laws of our nations or states, to take a certain number of courses in a variety of diff erent subjects. We had to take English, Mathematics, Social Studies/History, Literature, a foreign language, Art, Music, Physical Educa-tion, and Science. Even within those diverse subjects we had to study diff erent areas of the main topics and develop diff erent understandings and skills necessary to have a well-rounded approach to life, living, culture, and our environment.

Most of us had a favorite subject or certain areas of study we excelled in over other areas. I wasn’t much for math, but I always did really well with English. I despised history and Social Studies when I was younger, but grew to take a real interest in history when I got older. It turned out, in that in-stance, the problem was a bad teacher. I have always excelled in the study of foreign languages...but couldn’t draw or paint to save my life. The same is true for all of us: we all preferred

certain subjects or topics, were more interested in certain things than other things, and all draw on gifts and talents which God has placed within us.

As most of us left the world of traditional education at some point in time, most of us also left the “well rounded” approach to life and study behind as well. We be-gan to draw more intensely into certain areas of interest and withdraw from areas that don’t seem as important to us.

One major drawback present within many modern Christians is the total elimination of balanced, well-rounded study. Gone are the days when ministers are expected to attend formal university training or seminary. Today’s church relies on anointing and direct interpreta-tion to understand matters of faith, with no understanding of Hebrew or Greek, context, ancient cultures, grammar, or even plain common sense. We often forget a broad understanding of many subjects can greatly enhance our under-standing of God’s Word and, as a result, we do not often have a full perspective on faith or the signifi cance of God in our lives.

In Hosea 4:6, the Lord tells us: “My

people are destroyed from lack of

knowledge. Because you have rejected

knowledge, I also reject you as My

priests; because you have ignored the

law of your God, I will also ignore your

children.” (NIV) While this oft-quoted passage is clearly taken out of context, examining the full expanse of this pas-sage truly reveals the issue at hand and the issue to be addressed. God’s people die because they are improperly taught. They do not receive the essential knowledge they need to know God in a complete way. Those who were in lead-ership were rejected by God, for both disobedience to the Law and inability to teach the law. As a result, this lack of knowledge would be passed on to future generations and they too would not know God.

The reality of such generational igno-rance is startling. It starts with people who truly don’t know or understand the Creator’s connection and intricate workings in both spiritual matters and creation. In order to prevent this, it is essential God’s people see the relevance in becoming well-rounded, coming to know their God in a personal way in all things, rather than exclusively in the things we think He should be in.

Becoming all things to all peopleOne of my greatest friends, who is also an apostle, once told me I remind her of the Apostle Paul. I was truly compli-mented, especially when she told me the reason was because I had knowl-edge of so many diff erent things and in so many diff erent areas. When she told me that, I thought back over many years and many circumstances I have been in that could be coined as “unconvention-al” or diff erent. Over the years, I have worked with so many diff erent types of people, religious groups, orientations, states, circumstances, and places of life. I remember asking God about one of the people I was dealing with and why I was sent to work with him - and the Lord said to me, “I am teaching you how to become all things to all people.” I didn’t realize the Lord was actually speaking the Word to me - 1 Corinthians 9:18-23: “For though I am free from all men, I

have made myself slave to all, so that I

the weak; I have become all things to

all men, so that I may by all means save

some. I do all things for the sake of the

gospel, so that I may become a fellow

partaker of it.” (NASB) The Apostle Paul’s words here raise an uncomfortable point for many: in order to be an eff ec-tive witness and apostle of the Gospel, he had to fi rst be a person who was able to identify with, talk to, and engage with a diverse group of people. This means he had to be educated in diff er-ent cultures, needs, and circumstances. When among philosophers, the Apostle Paul spoke philosophically; when among Jews, he spoke according to the un-veiling of the Law; when speaking to Gentiles, he spoke through ideas and concepts (especially natural things) that would be understandable to them. Just as Abraham was a pagan man called by God using experiences and things famil-iar to him, so too we are called to bring the Word of God to people in a way that is understandable to them.

Today’s church fi nds itself unable to do this because we aren’t educated ourselves. While many Christians can quote a few popular Bible verses, most cannot relate to the situations, trials, and circumstances that other people in the world face. Instead of genuinely trying to reach people and make the Gospel something that can help them, it becomes a matter of who believes what the best and who is the most right and, therefore, who is also the most wrong. Witnessing and evangelization start long before you ever talk to your non-

fi shes of the sea shall declare unto thee.

Who knoweth not in all these that the

hand of the LORD hath wrought this? In

whose hand is the soul of every living

thing, and the breath of all mankind.” (KJV) The ancients had an intimate understanding of God in nature. They worked with the land in an agrarian society. They knew how to determine changing seasons, shifts, what to do in what season, and how to prepare for what was coming next. In the techno-logical age, we tend to lack in the power-ful way in which working with the earth, tending it, and serving as a part of all created things can give us a connected understanding to God. Even though you may not be much for chemical formulas, engineering logarithms, or converting Celsius temperature to Fahrenheit, every one of us can participate in cultivation by growing fl owers, learning more about horticulture, tending plants, taking a walk in the woods or in a park, getting outside for some outdoor exercise, learn-ing about conservation and recycling, or just taking some time with God, praying and observing His presence in and among His beautiful creation. If we make a point to interact with God’s creation, we will hear the Lord speaking to us through nature!

Learning how to under-stand and communicate the Word

Language development used to be considered a prime vehicle for world communication. If someone planned to travel to another country or work abroad, the fi rst thing they were taught was how to speak the language of the nation they were going to live or work in. Nowadays we rely on a host of technological gadgets, translators, and the internet to speak with other people. The majority of the world has diffi culty mastering their own language, let alone the language of anyone else. As the world strives to be technological, we are forgetting basic communication skills that help us to understand and interact with others - and even communicate God’s message to them.

If we don’t understand the basics of our own language, we can’t eff ectively com-municate. If we can’t communicate, we

Christian friend. It starts with how much you attempt to learn about others, their problems, their needs, their beliefs, their culture, their circumstances, and gain an understanding and true love for help-ing others beyond just getting them to agree with you on spiritual matters.

Seeing the Creator in cre-ationOver the years, science and faith have become fast enemies. This was not al-ways the case, as there have been many great advancements of science that came about through men and women of faith who desired to know more about the world around them. They had an intrinsical belief that studying cre-ation would bring them closer to God, the One Who created it.

In response to perceptions of modern scientifi c understanding as non-theistic, Christian groups have begun to spring up, espousing a scientifi c perspective that they believe is Biblical. We must understand the Bible was not written to be a science textbook, but to be a record of faith and understanding about the things of God. That having been said, isolating scientifi c understanding and developments from Christian under-standing can deeply hurt one’s faith and understanding of God’s evidences in cre-ation. Many, many scientifi c advance-ments truly prove God’s handiwork in creation. For this reason, Christians must have a basic understanding of sci-ence and God’s incredible order present through the world around us. Studying things such as earth science and chemis-try can help us understand prophetic el-ements (earthquakes, natural disasters), Biblical miracles, supernatural events, and see the precision and design that did not come about by any accident.

Job 12:7-10, a powerful declaration is made about God’s relationship to man as can be discovered through nature: “But ask now the beasts, and they shall

teach thee; and the fowls of the air,

and they shall tell thee: Or speak to the

Ask The ApostleCan a Christian drink alcoholic beverages?Alcoholic beverages: a loaded topic indeed. Once upon a time, I was asked about Chris-tians and drinking at least once a month. It is now rare that I receive a question about Christians and alcoholic beverages. In the past ten years, I have seen a steep increase in the number of Christians who openly drink alcoholic beverages on a regular basis, rang-ing from beer, to wine, to even hard liquor and spirits.

Th e church has changed its take on many is-sues in multiple areas, and the area of drink-ing alcohol is just one example of a change in social mores. For many generations, alcohol usage was considered quite taboo among Christians. Th is was thanks to the Temperance Movement.

Th e Temperance Movement of the 1800s and 1900s was a women’s movement that had its entire origins within Christianity. Many do not realize the powerful role tem-perance played in both the church and so-ciety. Temperance brought the many evils of alcohol consumption to the forefront: unhealthy pregnancies, spousal abuse, vio-lence, broken lives, and other evils of exces-sive alcohol consumption in a culture that thrived on moonshine, bootlegging, and hard spirits. Th e Temperance Movement sought the good of the family, a balanced home life, and the health and dignity of women across the nation. Alcohol con-sumption was considered an evil. Th is un-derstanding of alcohol consumption stood as a symbol of holiness within Christianity. If God called us to be holy, holiness and alcohol were incompatible. Th e conduct of intoxicated individuals does not display that which God calls His people to display.

In modern times, there is question to this standard of understanding. What about the fact that people in the Bible drank wine? If Jesus drank wine, can’t His follow-ers do the same? What about using wine in communion?

It is true that people in the Bible drank wine. Th e drinking of wine was customary in Middle Eastern culture in ancient times. Th ere were no refrigerators and beverages did not hold for long periods of time, thus pushing the issue of fermentation in bever-ages to make them last longer. Water sourc-es were also oft en unsanitary, causing illness in individuals. We do know from reading the Bible that, while wine was a prominent

beverage, it was not an exclusive one. Th e Bible also speaks of “sweet wine,” which is ac-tually a reference to grape juice. We read of people drinking milk, most likely goat’s milk. Despite the risks, we also see people drinking water. While the beverage choices of individ-uals in Bible times were far more limited than they were today, it is a myth for us to suppose wine was the only thing people ever drank.

Even in the Bible we see warnings against drunkenness and excessive alcohol consump-tion. Proverbs 20:1 advises: “Wine is a mock-er and beer a brawler; whoever is led astray by them is not wise.” (NIV) In the New Tes-tament, we are advised to be fi lled with the Spirit rather than drunk with wine. Even though alcoholic beverages were a part of the culture of Bible times, it is clear that drinking such beverages to excess or being led by them - rather than you remaining in control of con-sumption - was against the precepts of God and His guidelines for Christian living.

It is also notable that fermentation processes were diff erent in ancient times. Th e alcoholic content of alcoholic beverages was not nearly as high as it is today. Likewise, we cannot compare the level of alcohol in a glass of wine to that of a person drinking spirits or hard li-quor for several hours in a bar. It would take far more wine of ancient times to intoxicate someone than it would with the current as-sortment of alcoholic beverages available to-day.

Th ere is a marked diff erence between drink-ing a glass of wine with dinner to enhance one’s meal and drinking to excess. At the same

time, the benefi ts of wine can be found in drinking grape juice - so the need to drink a fermented beverage really does not exist.

As for the issue of communion, we raise the relevance that many people today par-ticipate in twelve step programs to help handle their addictions to alcohol and other substances. Drinking that one sip of wine in communion could easily be a temptation - as alcohol’s position in soci-ety serves as temptation rather than neces-sity. As communion is symbolic - unleav-ened bread and the fruit of the vine - there is nothing wrong with avoiding tempta-tion and upholding communion’s dignity by using grape juice rather than fermented wine in communion practice.

To me, the issue of drinking alcohol or not drinking alcohol is not about following a mandated rule: it is about our witness as Christian believers. Is it truly compat-ible to drink alcoholic beverages and be a believer if the possibility exists of dis-orderly conduct or drunkenness? Is the atmosphere where alcohol is served as a social beverage one that is becoming to a Christian and Christian claims for holi-ness? Is the behavior displayed by those who are drinking or already drunk behav-ior that leaves the Christian exposed to harm, a negative reputation, or to a nega-tive personal space? Are the activities that surround drinking ones that are a positive representation of Christianity? All of these diff erent matters must be considered when drinking alcohol or when choosing to be in an environment where alcohol is sold or consumed. Th e culture of alcohol and alcohol abuse is about far more than drink-ing a beverage: it is about a lifestyle and be-ing in certain places at certain times.

Th e Christian life is one of wisdom and discernment. God calls us to stand with Him in our choices and decisions, and turn from old ways and habits. In our modern society, where alcohol is not a mandatory beverage, there are so many other choices we can make when it comes to what we drink. Being a Christian is not just about espousing a certain theology or doctrinal understanding; it’s also about living what we claim to believe. Alcohol consump-tion, within the context of modern society, does not align with Christian living!

Thy Word Is A Lamp

Psalm 22: The Dark Night Of The Soul, Part 1 (Verses 1-5)The Christian experience is full of many diff erent experiences. Christian believ-ers experience blessing, praise, favor, victory, and grace as a part of their walk. They also experience rejection, silence, persecution, frustration, misunderstand-ing, loneliness, and anger. While we hear much about how to handle the good Christians experience and never walk away from God in the good times, we hear little about how to handle the times of the Christian walk that are less than ideal.

It’s a great thing to celebrate the victo-ries of Christianity. We need to remem-ber and recall all the things God has done for us from eternity past to eternity future. At the same time, we also need to learn how to deal with the feelings, circumstances, and periods of time that are less than ideal. We need to know how to deal with the “dark nights of the soul” that will plague every Christian at one point in time or another in their walk with the Lord.

The “dark night of the soul” is a phrase that has been used by many writers and spiritual contemplatives throughout history. It describes a period of time in one’s life when an individual does not understand what is going on, where things are at, what is happening, where they are going...and they don’t seem to hear from God about what to do about it. It’s a period of crying out, seeking, questioning, and longing, with little satisfaction. It is a painful period in the life of the Christian, where the graces of God seem far off , and suff ering seems very near.

The period of the dark night of the soul is one of growth and contem-plation. If we were to compare it to a season, it would be winter. Even though things appear dead, they are but dormant, waiting to come to full life again. They are resting and seek-ing within. It is quiet, without much stirring and activity. The cold of the world drives one within, into a hidden

place. The dark night of the soul is this season of quiet wisdom, where the cold-ness of circumstances drives one inward to seek God in a way they would not if things were going well.

The dark night of the soul is a season of waiting and coming to know God in a powerful and profoundly personal way. When things are good, we are so busy celebrating victories, enjoying blessings, and sharing in the revelry with others that sometimes knowing God doesn’t seem as important. In good times, we know God through the gain. In the dark night of the soul, we know God for be-ing God. We seek His face, His answers, His experiences, and His truth to bring us to where we need to be. (Verses 1-2)

A unique feature about the dark night of the soul is its extension beyond one’s own experience. Many Christians today are disconnected from their history. What a tragedy this is! Our history is a source of our power as we overcome both by the blood of the Lamb and our testimony! In the concept of believ-ing God is doing a “new thing,” they forget the experiences of God’s people all throughout history. God’s people have gone through hard times and hard experiences from the very beginning. In their diffi culties, they turned to God and God brought them through. If we are able to step back and see the way God has worked for others, recogniz-ing they had trials as well, we too will be able to see God’s ability to work for us and deliver us. Sometimes we are delivered from, sometimes we are delivered through. Seeing how God has kept His promises in the past helps us to recognize how He will keep them unto us today. (Verses 3-5)

Celebrating cinnamonCinnamon is a spice that comes fr om the inner bark of a number of trees of the genus “cinamomum.” Th e name “cinnamon” comes fr om the Hebrew and Phoenician through the Greek, “kinnamon.” Histori-cally, cinnamon goes back to importation to Egypt as early as 2,000 BCE. It is men-tioned in the Hebrew Bible many times. We see it in Proverbs, where the lover’s bed is perfumed with myrrh, aloe, and cin-namon, and in the Song of Solomon, where when describing the beauty of his beloved, cinnamon scents her garments, like the smell of Lebanon. Moses was commanded to use both sweet cinnamon and cassia in the holy anointing oil. Cinnamon was also a component of the ketoret, which is used when referring to the consecrated incense described in the Hebrew Bible and the Tal-mud. Cinnamon was regarded as a gift fi t for leaders and even for a god. It is native to Sri Lanka (Ceylon). It took many years for this priceless spice to be exported and grown in other areas. It was kept a mystery in the world for centuries by the middle men who handled the spice trade. Th ey did this to protect their monopoly as suppli-ers. It was a Portuguese trader who fi nally landed in Ceylon in the 16th century and restructured the traditional production and management of cinnamon by the Sinhalese who later held the monopoly for

cinnamon in Ceylon. It was Dutch traders who pushed out the Portuguese by forming an alliance with the kingdom of Kandy. Th ey set up a trading post in 1638 and had control of the factory by 1640. By 1658, all the Portuguese were gone. Th e Dutch East India Company continued to pursue its own method of harvesting and started to cultivate its own trees. In the 1700s, the British took over control of the island fr om the Dutch. Th e monopoly on Ceylon was declining, and the trees began to spread to other areas. In 2006, 90% of the world’s cinnamon was still produced in Sri Lanka. Cinnamon is high in antioxidant activ-ity. It has a reputation as a cure for colds. It has been used to treat diarrhea and other problems of the digestive tract. It also contains an essential oil that has antimicrobial properties. Th is can aid in preserving certain foods. Several studies suggest it may help the body have a regula-tory eff ect on blood sugar. Th is would make it benefi cial for those with type II Diabetes. In other studies it was shown to have the ability to stop medication yeast resistant yeast infections. It has an anti-clotting eff ect on blood and shown to boost cognitive function and memory. It is a good source of magnesium, fi ber, iron, and calcium. Cinnamon is used as a spice principally in cooking. It is used in the preparation of chocolate, desert recipes, candies, tea, hot

cocoa, and liqueurs. In India, it is used in curry. In north Afr ica, it is used for fl avor-ing couscous and tangerines. In Greece, it is used with lamb, and is a very important spice in Chinese cuisine. Cinnamon is a versatile spice with a fascinating history. What a wonderful gift God has created for His people! NASA Spacecraft Snaps 1st Photo of

Mercury From Orbit

The fi rst spacecraft ever to circle Mercury has beamed home the fi rst-ever photo taken of the small rocky planet from orbit, showing a stark landscape peppered with craters.

NASA’s Messenger spacecraft snapped the new Mercury photo March 29 at 5:20 a.m. EDT (0920 GMT). The photo shows the stark gray landscape of southern Mercury, a view that is dominated by a huge impact crater.

“This image is the fi rst ever obtained from a spacecraft in orbit about the solar sys-tem’s innermost planet,” Messenger mis-sion scientists explained in a statement.

The new Mercury photo shows a region around the south pole of Mercury. A 53-mile (85-kilometer) wide crater called De-bussy clearly stands out in the upper right of the image, with bright rays emanating from its center.

A smaller crater called Matabei, which is 15 miles (24 km) wide and is known for its “unusual dark rays,” is also visible in the image to the west of the Debussy crater, mission managers explained.

The new Mercury photo was posted to the Messenger mission website managed by the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, which is overseeing the fl ight for NASA.

The photo is the fi rst of 363 snapshots Messenger took during six hours of ob-servations around Mercury. The images are expected to cover previously unseen areas of Mercury, terrain that was missed by Messenger during three previous fl ybys before it entered orbit.

Messenger arrived at Mercury on March

17, more than 6 1/2 years after its launch from Earth.

The spacecraft paused in its Mercury photo reconnaissance work just long enough to beam the new images back to Earth, mission managers said.

“The Messenger team is currently looking over the newly returned data, which are still continuing to come down,” Messenger mission scientists said.

NASA plans to hold a teleconference with reporters to review the latest Mercury discoveries by the Messenger probe. The spacecraft’s name is short for the bulky moniker MErcury Surface, Space ENviron-ment, GEochemistry, and Ranging.

The $446 million Messenger probe is expected to spend at least one Earth year studying Mercury from orbit. The space-craft is in an extremely elliptical orbit that brings it within 124 miles (200 kilome-ters) of Mercury at the closest point and retreats to more than 9,300 miles (15,000 km) away at the farthest point.

The primary science mission phase will begin on April 4, when Messenger will start mapping the entire surface of Mer-cury, a process that is expected to require around 75,000 images. Scientists hope the spacecraft will help answer longstand-ing mysteries over the planet’s geology, formation and history.

While Messenger is the fi rst mission ever

to orbit around Mercury, it is not the fi rst spacecraft to visit the planet. NASA’s Mari-ner 10 spacecraft fl ew by the planet three times in the mid-1970s.

President Obama’s Approval Rating Hits

A New Low

After a brief resurgence earlier this year, President Obama’s poll numbers are back in the dumps. A new Quinnipiac Poll released fi nds Obama’s approval rating at the lowest point in his presidency, thanks in part to voter angst over the economy and his handling of the situation in Libya.

Just 42 percent of those polled approve of the job Obama is doing, compared to 48 percent who disapprove, according to Quinnipiac. And in a bad sign for his upcoming 2012 re-election campaign, 50 percent of those polled say he doesn’t deserve another term in the White House.

In January, Obama’s approval rating was at 48 percent—the highest number it had been in more than a year, though still dramatically lower than his 59 percent ap-proval rating recorded in June 2009.

“For all who are being lead by

the Spirit of God, these are the

sons of God.” (Romans 8:14, NASB)

It is exciting to know that in the mist of everything that this life has to throw at us, God is here to lead us every step of the way. His Spirit is always here to guide us in the major decisions that we encounter and even in the simple daily aff airs of life. When we allow the Holy Spirit to have that role in our lives, we never have to fear or worry because we know that we are walking in God’s perfect plan. However, we must choose to surrender control to God and let Him take the driver’s seat.

In Romans 8:14, we see that as children of God we are not to be lead by our sinful desires, the condition of our circum-stance, or our human emo-tions, but by the Spirit of God who searches the heart and mind of the Creator of the uni-verse (1 Corinthians 2:10), the very One who formed our lives and ordered our steps before

our birth. Through His Spirit we can discover God’s plan for our lives and trust that His GPS (God’s Positioning Spirit) will keep us on course at all times.

The word “being” tells us that

this is an active and continu-ous relationship. This con-nection with God was never intended to be broken, though I’m sure that there have been times in each of our lives when we have disconnected from God in an attempt to seize control of a situation. Can you think of a time in your life when you did that? What was the outcome? The Bible says that God will never leave us or forsake us, but it doesn’t say that we can’t shut Him out. When we do that, we are navigating on our own and are confi ned to the limits of our own perspective and under-

standing. Like a rat in a maze, all we will be able to see is our immediate surroundings, not knowing which path leads to the cheese and which path leads to the trap. Proverbs14:12 states, “There is a way which seems

right to a man, but its end is the

way of death.” (NASB) How can we possibly determine which-path leads where? That is what the Spirit of God is for.

If your life has been lead by things other than the Spirit of God, then I have great news for you; there is a better Guide and a better path. This Guide will always lead you in righteousness, peace, and joy to ensure that your life will ful-fi ll the purpose and potential that God created you with. His

path is not free of obstacles and challenges, but no matter what you face, He will cause you to “overwhelmingly conquer” (Ro-mans 8:37). To do this we must surrender control to Him and die to ourselves. In Galatians 2:20 Paul says, “I have been crucifi ed with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the fl esh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.” When this happens our mind will be fi lled with the thoughts of God and our hearts will be saturated with

Interview With Canadian Songwriter Bill Clint

By Apostle Dr. Rebecca MichaelBill Clint is a folk rock alternative genre Ca-nadian Singer-Songwriter-Musician extraor-dinaire! You can fi nd out more about his CD Releases now available online at itunes, ama-zon mu-sic MP3 downloads and also at his Website at http://billclint.webs.com. You can listen fr eely to his music at his myspace music page here at http://www.myspace.com/Bill-ClintMusic.Q.(Rebecca Michael) Hi Bill! Th ank you for this interview, it is great to have you here as both an outstanding indie artist in your own right in Canada and the USA in past times, as well as a wonderful and true friend.

A. (Bill Clint) Th ank you Rebecca for the opportunity to be interviewed – I am hon-oured that you thought of me.

Q. (Rebecca Michael) You are very welcome Bill. I have in mind to do this article in 2 Parts– fi rst, I would like you to tell us about how your music has evolved, what your in-fl uences and connections were in the suc-cessful past– And then for this interview I would like you to please connect this with where you are now at with your brand new release with our indie record label Phoenix Horizons Records, 2009, called “America

Lady of Liberty’ CD. We can discuss oth-er current and future projects you have in your plans in Part 2 of this interview which we will spotlight in our next quarterly mag-azine issue. So– can you take us from the origins then and connect us with today for this Part 1 issue article up to your re-cent CD Release then?

A. (Bill Clint) I was born and raised in a To-ronto / area suburbs in a town called Streets-ville, Ontario, Canada. I sang in a choir as a kid– wrote poetry in Grade 6… I was kicked out of band for playing sax at 16 so a friend gave me a guitar, I wrote my fi rst song at 16 and never stopped. Later I hung out with College kids and met a lot of artists and mu-sicians such as living at the infamous hippy hangout 18 stories Univ. of Toronto free education experiment Rochdale– We played at places like the Riverboat, Ryerson, York U, Toronto Univ. – Later I recorded 1975 the CD Crying of a Generation– and working as a primal therapist with Primal Th erapist Arthur Janov and a Psychiatrist in Toronto. Here below is a review of this album in a nut-shell– anyone interested in their feelings and process should listen to this albums such as the song ‘Angels don‘t need friends‘ - Here

is one such review:

Right down to the ink drawing of the face-less guy on the cover, this is an obscure sing-er-songwriter classic, which actually man-aged to exceed my already high expectations when I fi nally got myself a copy. I mean, I knew there was going to be a bit with the guy actually bursting into tears, but for some reason I imagined he’d be gently sob-bing in his handkerchief rather than howl-ing loudly in the microphone as if something really, really went bad, which is actually what he does here. Th is sounds kinda ugly - not a pleasant listen by any means, but on the other hand, it gives the album a sense of unsurpassed sincerity, as if, you know, he really opens his soul to the listener. So, I’d say this is worth having for just this feeling alone, but musically the album is a winner too - the melodies are excellent, the vocals are superb and haunting even when he’s not crying, and the sparse arrangements really work. Huge thumbs up! (from Ebay CD Review online post by Levhan)

When we recorded this song they put 12 microphones around me and I just started singing and I just went where it took me– we added the music and eff ects later– It is the defi nitive soul-searching work bar none for those out there as such. I ran a busi-ness for awhile, my marriage went sour so I went to Austin Tx. for a year and a half and met my second wife Lisa and went to LA and wrote America ~ Lady of Liberty CD Album in 1980 something. I recorded at Hershel Cunningham‘s studio who re-corded all of Stevie Ray Vaughn vocals and we all started hanging out as fast friends and jamming and I met and collaborated with many other famous musicians. If you are any good in Austin then you meet and play with everybody who is any-body in the music world– and I won the Songwriters Award and next thing I know I am meeting everyone and opening for the Mamas and Papas as the folk singer for Austin, TX with Christopher Cross there– I got a standing ovation– an unheard of feat there – so many were impressed– many were really miff ed haha. Some of those I jammed and collabo-rated with others like Dan Hill and others from other places along the way. Many folks wanted to sign me and I would not because they cared about money more than music. I stayed to not sell out my music or craft to

Under The BusBy Prophetess Nina B. Marino, RN, LNC

Even the so-called “best of them” threw me under the bus so they wouldn’t have to accept any respon-sibility for whatever the issue was. It is appalling. I was literally attacked, cornered, and embarrassed in front of six co-workers. No one came to my aid; in fact, the best of them did appear to have great satisfac-tion from my situation. It was quite a scene. I was actually cornered - physically cornered. I could not move and was so shocked at the accusation that I could not speak. I could not even speak in defense of the action, as the under the busers did not allow it. Sitting here today, I don’t know how I got through it with my dignity still in tact. So now you have a defi nition of what under the bus means. It doesn’t matter to those who are doing the throwing if the said accused is guilty or innocent; it only matters that no one is going to accept any responsibility or give help to the accused. It is clearly a vi-sion of a narcissistic, self-absorption, lying deceit, love of self, slander, brutal, etc. Does it sound familiar? (2 Timothy 3:2-5).

Under the bus is clearly a sign of the times. It encompasses much of what the Bible tells us we will encounter in these last days. Where are you regarding the symptoms found in 2 Timothy 3:2-5? Are you right with your fellow man? More important, are you right with God? Are you a member of His Kingdom, or are you entrenched in the world - you know, the world, where, “under the bus” is the norm?

This is a story of our modern-day society: the society in which we live, work, and play. The time is now. The place is a small city in the Untied States of America. The subject is public relations - ethics, morals, and, oh yes, the good old golden rule (defi nitely passe in this modern day). The subject is also about the absence of truth - lying. Lying - a prevalent trend in the aforementioned society which has currently replaced “truth.” Truth, the word for which there is, in this modern society, no clear defi ni-tion. The small city and the world at large are in a constant state of disequilibrium. It is like a child expe-riencing the terrible twos: disorder, lying, deceit, and incorrigible behav-ior are running rampant. 2 Timothy 3:2-5: “People will be lovers of them-

selves, lovers of money, boastful,

proud, abusive, disobedient to their

parents, ungrateful, unholy, with-

out love, unforgiving, slanderous,

without self-control, brutal, not lov-

ers of the good, treacherous, rash,

conceited, lovers of pleasure rather

than lovers of God— having a form

of godliness but denying its power.

Have nothing to do with them.”

(NIV) Well now, that about sums it up for my title, “Under the Bus.” I cannot even begin to count the number

of times I have been thrown under the bus. If you are wondering what that means, I can tell you that the basis for its meaning lies in deceit and lies. At least 3-5 times per day, I encounter people who want what they want NOW. When they do not instantly receive what they feel they should have, they throw you under the bus. They blame you for every is-sue or circumstance that they have in their lives. Everything that has gone wrong is happening or has hap-pened. They raise their voices, they are abusive and demanding. It gives the word “rude” a whole new mean-ing. My position is precarious. I am in a customer-service oriented busi-ness. My job is in jeopardy if I seem to be acting in an inappropriate man-ner, so...I try to maintain my dignity and have confi dence that I am not at fault and gently wait for the bus to pass over me. It gets more dif-fi cult with each passing day, and the frequency of each incident increases at an alarming rate.

Then we have the under the bus movement by coworkers and other members of society. I have been bul-lied, threatened, embarrassed, and called on the carpet for things I had no knowledge of or did not know.

His desires. We will begin to see people and situations through God’s perspective and respond to them as He would. As a result, not only will we be walk-ing in God’s plan for our lives, but we will begin to manifest the fruit of His character that will touch and bless the lives of the people that we encounter on our journey in life.

“If we live by the Spirit, let us

also walk by the Spirit.” (Gala-tians 5:25, NASB)

Laura Elizabeth Ingalls Wilder(1867-1957)

Laura Ingalls Wilder is best-known as the au-thor of the “Little House” series of books that are based on her life growing up in what was then known as the “Indian Territory.”

We all fondly remember the “Little House On Th e Prairie” stories. Th e many stories of the people of Walnut Grove remind many of us of times long gone, yet closely remembered. Many are surprised to learn these stories are fi ctionalized accounts of her life in the Indian Territory. Her ability to transcend time and make stories that are applicable to all gen-erations truly inspires and encourages young women spanning many years.

Laura Ingalls Wilder was more than her sto-ries. She was also an amazing woman: she was a pioneer, a seamstress, a tailor, an author, a farmer, a teacher, and the primary source of income for her family for most of her married

life. She lived through great hardship, drought, illness which left her husband walk-ing with a cane for the rest of his life, and the death of a child. For much of her life with Almanzo Wilder she struggled fi nancially, trying to make ends meet. It was only later in her life that Laura’s fi nancial struggle ended when she was published, thanks to her daugh-ter, Rose Wilder Lane’s connections. Writing about pioneer life, growing up in the Dakota territory, and sharing stories based on her ex-periences brought in a great harvest for her in her life. Even today, her books are regarded as classics which promote historical informa-tion, personal experience, and good values for children of all ages. It is obvious that, in telling her history, Laura Ingalls Wilder made history of her own as well.

Quotable quote: “Th e real things haven’t changed. It is still best to be honest and truth-ful; to make the most of what we have; to be happy with simple pleasures; and have cour-age when things go wrong.”

Dying For Lack Of Knowledge(Continued from page 6)

can’t understand what God is saying to us through His Word. No matter how simplistic many seek to make transla-tions of the Bible today, every single Bible translation has one thing in com-mon: understanding the Word requires reading comprehension and an ability to understand what one is reading. These skills call for word identifi cation and knowledge, ability to identify diff erent types of literature and diff erent forms of speech, and diff erent ways words are used within their contexts. We must be able to tell a quotation from a proverb, a statement from and exclamation, and understand verbal ironies.

If we want to teach the Bible with under-standing, our work does not end there. Serious Bible preachers and teachers know the importance of having a basic understanding of Hebrew and Greek. Knowledge of the original languages helps to clarify Bible texts that are dif-fi cult to translate into modern language usage and also to gain a better respect and love for the Word in its original context. This also demands true Bible teachers and preachers will seek to gain an understanding of the BIble beyond a traditional context or traditional Bible translation. We must strive to make sure those who hear our teaching are able to comprehend what we are saying and see it as Biblical rather than just seeing the traditions of old staring them in the face.

If one is going to work on an internation-al level, whether in preaching, teaching, or ministry, it is essential one learn diff er-ent languages, so one is able to convey essential truths of the Word to people within their own languages. As a sign of respect and the universality of the Chris-tian message. When Joseph’s brothers met him again in Egypt, Joseph was careful to relay the necessary word to them in their own language, as we can see in Genesis 45:12: “Now notice! Your

own eyes and the eyes of my brother

Benjamin can see that I am talking to

you personally [in your language and

not through an interpreter].” (AMP) It is essential we can speak to at least one other group of people in the world aside from our own as a witness to the Gospel. The Word tells us in 2 Corinthians 2:14: “Now thanks be unto God, which

near, ye nations, to hear; and hearken,

ye people: let the earth hear, and all

that is therein; the world, and all things

that come forth of it.” (KJV) if the earth is to come forth and hear from the Lord, we must be able to relay God’s message to the nations in a way that will be both accurate and saving to those who hear God’s message today.

The learning of the LordLearning is a continual process, especial-ly as we learn and grow with God. The hesitancy today to learn about God’s goodness present in all things and in all areas is an obvious sign of pride and arrogance present in today’s church. As Christians we should never tire to see God present everywhere He is present. We should always want to know more of His Word and gain a better understand-ing of His love, light, and knowledge in our lives. If we’re not learning, we’re dying in our lack of knowledge. It is not God’s will for His people to live in gen-erations of ignorance! Instead of doing what has been perpetually done, it is our call to educate ourselves and our chil-dren in preparation for generations of blessing and obedience down until the time when Jesus returns. In accordance with His command, learn His Word, learn about Him everywhere He is, and grow as a person to celebrate Him and bring Him glory in everything that you do. It is such a blessing to grow in the knowl-edge of God!

always causeth us to triumph in Christ,

and maketh manifest the savour of His

knowledge by us in every place.” (KJV) God makes it manifest as we go and carry the Word. Are you ready to go? Do you want to go? The process of going begins with your ability to understand and communicate His Word!

The relevance of history and cultureHistory and culture are two subjects that the educational process has made dull and boring. Most students dread history and Social Studies classes due to dry textbooks and endless redundancies. I don’t believe the majority of people ever outgrow the school stereotype that his-tory and culture - and the study of both - is boring.

The truth is that the study of history and culture is neither dull, nor boring. Not only is the study of culture essential to life, it is also essential to the understand-ing of faith and God’s Word. If we don’t know about other people’s cultures (including the religions that shape those cultures), we can’t relate God’s Word to them. In our modern world, we tend to view things - even the Bible - through the eyes of modern western understand-ing. This hurts our witness to other cultures that may not have the same modern understandings, mores, values, or tastes as we do.
