“To overcome poverty and the flaws of

the economic crisis in our society, we

need to envision our social life. We

have to free our mind, imagine what

has never happened before and write

social fiction. We need to imagine

things to make them happen. If you

don't imagine, it will never happen.”

Fostering Talent, Priming Leaders of Tomorrow

India is taking its journey from poverty to plenty, from

tradition to modernity and this growth is a very intriguing

experience. The rise of the middle class in India is also quite

remarkable. The expansion of its services sector, especially

the phenomenal growth of IT sector, has delivered higher

growth to the economy and robust incomes in the hands

of middle class society. Amidst this, there is another India

that lies in its bottommost, looking up for support and a

hand, to be part of India's growth story. The skills required

to bring solutions to the problems faced by ‘bottom of the

Pyramid’ are different. And EDI students of Post Graduate Diploma in Management –

Development Studies are prepared as professionally competent development intermediaries

and socially responsible individuals to work at the grassroots, at the policy-level, undertaking

research, designing CSR programmes and implementing projects.

Several years of teaching, research and training experience of the faculty at EDI has led to

making the programme theoretically rigorous, empirically grounded and multi-disciplinary in

orientation. EDI transfers its rich experience and expertise of Micro Enterprise Development,

Microfinance and Livelihood Promotion, to the students. EDI is also a Member of Livelihoods,

MANTHAN Consortium, that enables students undertake internship with State Rural

Livelihood Missions under NRLM. Similarly, all students go through their 2 month long

internship which prepares them to understand local issues, problem identification and seeking

innovative solutions through community participation.

PGDM-DS is a comprehensive programme and offers learning about development process

through seminar courses, field work, colloquiums, workshops and field-based training. The

graduating students can successfully enter professional careers in civil society organisations,

non-governmental organisations, international multilateral agencies, like; UNDP, ILO, socially

responsive corporates, or channelize their entrepreneurial spirit by setting up social enterprises

and businesses.

I wish students all the best in their future life and ensure organisations participating in EDI

Placements & Internships, that they will find rich resource in our students with professional

competence for social change and entrepreneurial capabilities.

Good wishes

received. Afterwards, the employers may carefully scrutinise the profile of the students and prepare a

list of students they would like to interview.

It will be preferable, but not obligatory, for the organisations to send their representatives to EDI to

meet the graduating batch. We encourage participating organisations to take telephonic interviews

and Skype Calls for student interaction. The participating organisations will be invited for campus

interviews at EDI on mutually convenient date from 15th December, 2014 to 31st March, 2015. The

participating organisations should send their representative with full authority to make final job offers,

immediately after the interviews. It will be our privilege to host the representatives of the recruiting

organisations and provide all necessary assistance to make their stay comfortable on our campus. We

will be glad to extend transport facility from Ahmedabad airport / railway station to the campus, if

required.

The Gujarat

Ahmedabad is the largest city in the state of Gujarat and one of the largest urban agglomerations in India. Located on the

banks of the River Sabarmati, the city is the administrative centre of Ahmedabad district and was the capital of Gujarat

from 1960 to 1970; the capital was shifted to Gandhinagar thereafter. In colloquial Gujarati, it is commonly called

Amdavad. Ahmedabad was founded in 1411 by Sultan Ahmed Shah to serve as the capital of the Sultanate of Gujarat. The city is named after its founder.

The city established itself as the home of a booming textile industry, which earned it the nickname "the Manchester of the East." A rising centre of

education, information technology and scientific industries, Ahmedabad remains the cultural and commercial heart of Gujarat and much of western

India.
