REPORTS TO:

Regional Librarian/ Digital Services Librarian/Library Client Services Program Leader

JOB PURPOSE

To assist the Regional Librarian/ Digital Services Librarian in the provision of consistently exceptional customer service to library

customers.

EXTENT OF AUTHORITY

The officer’s work outcomes are clearly monitored with freedom to act limited by standards and procedures. Solutions to

problems are found in established procedures and instructions. Assistance is readily available when required.

ASSISTING LIBRARY CUSTOMERS IN THE EFFECTIVE USE OF LIBRARY FACILITIES, SERVICES AND EQUIPMENT.

Assist library customers by answering directional enquiries and requests for information.

Provide library customers with assistance in their use of the library’s digital and technology resources.

Assist library customers in the use of the library’s self-service facilities.

Performance Criteria

A thorough knowledge of the range of Logan City Council Library services and resources.

A demonstrated ability to assist customers in their use of Logan City Council Library services and resources.

A demonstrated capacity to support people with a diverse level of knowledge and capability.

Demonstrated digital literacy skills including experience using technology.

UNDERTAKE ROUTINE LIBRARY DUTIES AND TASKS.

Contribute to the delivery of library services by undertaking various tasks including customer service, shelving and the checking

in and out of library items.

Contribute, as required, to the delivery of library programs, activities, promotion and outreach.

Action relevant tasks resulting from library system generated reports, membership records, reservation processes and item

repair.

Undertake accurate and efficient handling of cash, phone enquiries, bookings and/or other administrative duties as required in

the library environment.

Performance Criteria

Demonstrated numeracy, literacy and organisational skills.

An ability to effectively operate computer systems including the library management software and Microsoft Office

applications.

A capacity to appropriately apply library policies, guidelines or procedures into the delivery of library services to

customers.

Provide customers with up-to-date and relevant information about Logan City Council library services.

Contribute to a positive customer experience by appropriately resolving straightforward customer requests in relation to a

customer’s use of the library’s space, services or resources.

Can adhere to Logan City Council Libraries’ customer service expectations and any relevant library policy, guideline or

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Literacy and general education standards as associated with secondary school leaving levels and/or commercial training

complemented by relevant work experience.

Library or customer service experience highly regarded.

Demonstrated digital literacy skills including experience using smart devices, computers, the internet, software applications and

a capacity to assist customers in the use of library digital resources.

Highly developed customer service skills.

SUCCESS PROFILE

Provides exceptional customer experience to a diverse range of people.

Works effectively as part of a wider libraries team using excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and promoting an

REQUIREMENTS & POSITION SPECIFIC CONDITIONS

Depending on operational requirements, varying rosters and hours may apply, including Saturday work and some evening work up to 8pm Tuesdays or Thursdays.

Casual Circulation Assistants are employed on a casual day-to-day basis and may be required to work a variable spread of hours (up to a maximum of 36.25 hours per week), Monday to Saturday as required to meet operational need.

Library staff may be required to rotate within the Branch to work within other Libraries to enable Council to meet its operational requirements in those Libraries.

Position numbers 5138, 5285, 5262, 5268 & 5132 are required to administer “authorised person” powers under relevant legislation and must be appointed as an Authorised Person in accordance with the appropriate legislation.

As part of the functions of this position the incumbent may be required to work with children. The incumbent in this position must hold a valid Blue Card for working with children, or lodge an application to obtain such a card from the Commission for Children and Young People and successfully obtain such authorisation in accordance with the Commission's guidelines. (If for any reason, the incumbent’s Blue Card is withdrawn or cancelled, the incumbent is required to promptly notify the CEO as a matter of urgency but in any event within 24 hours of the incumbent being notified of such withdrawal.)

Applicants must undergo a pre-employment functional assessment and be assessed as fit to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position.

The incumbent must possess a current ‘C’ class licence and a reliable vehicle.
