The amount of delay and congeson depends on overall traffic volume, me of day, and the size and type of the project. Reconstrucon — The highway is being rebuilt. Some lanes may be shut down while others remain open to keep traffic flowing. Resurfacing/Paving/Overlay — Adding pavement over exisng road or structure. You will likely encounter lane closures and a lower speed limit. Chip seal — A method of resurfacing that places gravel over the roadway to work into the pavement. Bridge work — Bridges may be built alongside exisng bridges with lile in the way of traffic delays. Some bridge work may require lane closures or traffic detours. Widening — Widening exisng roads usually requires some lane closures, but typically only for porons of the project area. An inaenve driver is the most common cause of work zone crashes. Orange is your clue! Pay aenon when you see orange signs, barrels, cones and barricades. Obey all speed signs, because speed may be reduced for your safety and the safety of workers. Double your following distance. Don’t tailgate. Get in the correct lane well in advance. Remember, work zone traffic lanes oſten are narrow, without shoulders or emergency lanes. When possible, move over to give workers more room between them and your vehicle. Be aware of temporary construcon accesses on either side of the roadway. Watch for construcon vehicles and don’t follow them as they travel into and out of the work areas. Expect delays — plan for them and leave early so you can drive safely through the work zone. Know before you go! The following descriptions will give you an idea of what to expect when you encounter a road project. The amount of delay and congestion depends on

Reconstruction — The highway is being rebuilt. Some lanes may be shut down while others remain open to keep traffic flowing.

Interstate 827. Interstate 82 McNary Highway – Repair impact panels, gap

seal at various locations between I-84 and Columbia River, MP 0.0 to 11. Lane closures, flaggers, reduced speeds, minor delays. Completion: 11/2017.

Interstate 848. Interstate 84 Columbia River Highway — Historic Columbia

9. Interstate 84 Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway — Remove and replace culvert on Threemile Creek under I-84, restore creek channel, MP 87. Shoulder closures only, minimal delays. Completion: 7/2017.

Interstate 84 Old Oregon Trail Highway — Pavement resurfacing and repairs between Encina (10 miles east of Baker City) and Pleasant Valley, and between Nelson Point and Lime MP 313.6 to 318. 4; MP 330 to 342. Lane closures, reduced speeds, flaggers, traffic pattern changes, minor delays. Completion: 11/2017.

14. Interstate 84 Old Oregon Trail Highway — Install Variable Message Signs (readerboards), freeway ramp gates and roadway weather sensors at various locations in Malheur County, MP 356 to 378. Occasional lane closures, flaggers and minor delays. Completion: 11/2017.

U.S. Highways15. U.S. 20 Corvallis-Newport Highway — Complete west end

curve portion of the Pioneer-Mountain – Eddyville Project, MP 15.8 to 31.8. Most work will occur off of the existing roadway. Delays of up to 20 minutes. Longer delays and additional lane restrictions could occur due to blasting. Completion: Fall 2017.

16. U.S. 20 Corvallis-Newport Highway — Pave between Burnt Woods and Philomath and replace guardrails. MP 28 to 50. Mostly night work except for work on bridges. Expect single lane closure using flaggers and pilot cars. Delays up to 20 minutes. Completion: Fall 2017.

17. U.S. 20 McKenzie-Bend Highway — Construct a roundabout at the intersection of U.S. 20 and Barclay Drive/McKinney Butte, MP 100/0. Delays of less than 20 minutes, one lane open each direction. Completion: 6/2017.

18. U.S. 20 McKenzie-Bend Highway — Repaving, adding intersection improvements and rumble strips from OR 126 Junction to Deschutes River Bridge, MP 0.0 to 15. Night work, delays up to 20 minutes. Completion: 8/2017.

19. U.S. 20 Central Oregon Highway — Pavement repairs and resurfacing four miles east of Burns to Warm Springs Road, MP 134.5 to 171.1.

44. OR 18/OR 219/OR 99W Salmon River Highway — Newberg – Dundee Bypass Phase 1. New road on new alignment, includes large drainage ponds, nine new bridges, retaining walls, landslide correction measures, traffic signals and sign structures, city water line, curb and gutter, sidewalk, pavement markings and landscaping. Most work is off the highways, but the local road (including OR 99W Pacific Highway West, MP 21.8 to 22.4 and MP 26.3 to 27.1; OR 219 Hillsboro – Silverton Highway, MP 20 to 22 and Springbrook Road in Newberg) will be impacted. A portion of Springbrook Road will be closed to through traffic. Construction will take place mostly during the daytime, but also during some nights. Flaggers will control two-way traffic.
