In Nantes, every summer, the city gets animated by exhibitions, installations and art in public spaces.
The public place located on the top of the school is a one of the remarkable place choosen by Le Voyage à Nantes.
The client’s demand was to creat a living place on the rooftop, in order to make people discover this rather unknown location.
It was suggested to create an ephemeral hotel and we imagined bedrooms in chimneys, transforming the school in a big creation factory. The important element was to consider the scale of the city and the scale of the rooftop to have an installation working for both environment.

Architecture National Diploma validation project.Team work - 16 weeks20 persons
After the ideas competition, the outdoor cinema project was selected and we worked to achieve this proposition.
This is a complete project that integrates different elements :- an illuminated sign facing the city- a stucture receveing the cinema screen- different furnitures modules to watch the movies- a complexe sound a light system- 75h of movies during the summer
We distributed the work between 20 persons, and I mostly worked on the structure, on the technical specifics, on the mecanics of the screen, on the relation with the suppliers and client and on the general organisation of the work for the group.

Team work - 8 weeksConstance LEJONCOURClémence AUMOND
The constraints of this site were the important transit around it : a highway in the north and tramway in the south.
We had to find a way to invite people in the new neighborhood and protect them from the noise and danger caused by the cars.
To divide the plots, we thought of the movements of walking people (the area is car-free), of the sunlight, of the views from and to the site and of the proportion between private, semi-private and public area.
Individual work - 5 weeks
After a group work of planning the neighborhood, I designed the southern area with a high density of city houses. To save floor area, these units are nested and stacked but each keeps its personal entry and a individual exterior space. The horizontal building is crossed by «green flow» that rhythms the facade and creates porosity with the city. This operation thus communicates with the rest of the neighborhood through the successive terraces that create views and link with the inside of the constructions. The apartments are oriented toward south, to gardens or terraces. Functional rooms (kitchen, bathroom…) are located on the North facade to avoid visibility from neighbors. Individual entries are located in the inner courtyard, forcing people to leave the public space to semi-public place before entering their private space, creating a smooth transition.

VILLAGE AGAINST EROSION2011 Sundarbans region, Bangladesh
Team work - 13 weeksJonathan BOURHISCarine BERTAUD
In Bengali, «MATIPANGA» means «the land that falls.»5 million is the estimated number of people living on «tanks», ephemeral sediments islands deposited in the riverbed and swept away by floods. The challenge is to create a sustainable village (arable land and housing) for people threatened by floods in Bangladesh. Our village/dam helps control this phenomenon and therefore settle permanently. The structure of the village is based on traditional boats called «kettuvallam.»It performs three functions: the constitution of the dam, of the houses and the covered street. With the progressive development of the village on the riverbed, the dam changes the location of sediment deposit and is then stabilized with planting trees and installation of burlap (geotextile which Bangladesh is the largest exporter).

BTEC Higher National Diploma validation project.Individual work - 13 weeks
Based on Hundertwasser’s theory of the five skins man, I proposed an evolution from private spaces to public spaces:
1. The room is the «epidermis». The space that offers the most protection for seniors is a private space freely furnished.2. To facilitate community life, the shared living room, shared by four persons, recreates small «family units».3. The common rooms, with many small areas to reassure the elderly.4 - The garden is a place to meet people in the residence.

This modulable furniture structures a space in a very short time to create a living space for one or more persons. It can be used to make a workplace more versatile or to settle quickly in a new empty place.
Each module performs a specific function: sleep / rest, Cooking / eating, working, washing. In the closed position, the total volume occupied is 8m3 In order to facilitate transport, it is separated into 4 blocks. Each module unfolds and stretches to organize a space.

THE LAST HOME 2009A place to die, inspired by the poem “Edgar Poe’s tomb” S.Mallarmé
Individual work - 6 weeks
On a windswept cliff at the end of the Quiberon peninsula, stands an old Breton cottage.
Its new host, the solitary man, wants to retire to the sea, to die in peace. Each day, the rays of light passing through the transparent slates sweep the stairs, descending. Each day, the solitary man goes down with light.
At sunset, a last ray of light passes through the staircase and illuminates a block, which will one day become the tomb of the solitary man.
Ray of light comes in the cottage, but the dense grid of steps prevents it from reaching the ground. When the lonely man goes down the stairs, he descends into the darkness.

COMPETITION : EXTENSION OF A UNIVERSITY2012 - Brazil
Team work during an internship (6 persons) Atelier Um+D - 4 weeks
NATIONAL COMPETITION: 2nd place
During an internship in the agency UM + D (Curitiba, Brazil), I participated in a competition for the extension of a public university.
On a small field surrounded by tall buildings, we had to work vertically, burying part of the program (especially important considering the surface allowed to build). The proposed project is volumetrically very typical of Brazilian contemporary architecture: an underground place that when you gets closer, and two perpendicular buildings on top of it.
The majority of the proposition is well hidden, and without the cuts, we do not distinguish the library, auditorium and exhibition hall.

MULTI-PROGRAM BUILDING - 2012Dwellings, lofts, shop.Curitiba, Brazil
Team work during an internship (3 persons) Atelier Um+D - 4 weeks
This building project has 13 student flats, 2 spacious apartments for the owner and his daughter, parking in the basement and a shop.
Client’s requests were particularly clear : most apartment possible for the lowest cost possible.
The use of brick was a big constraint for the project. To plan the construction, it was necessary to accurately place each piece of carpentry according to brick rhythm.
This building is located in Brazil, and we had to add in each studio an individual laundry room in each apartment, a specific area dedicated to barbecues to suit the brazilian culture.

SCALE 1 EXPERIMENT 2010Visitors day, ENSAAMA school, Paris 15th
Team work (4 persons on the realization) - 1 week
In order to understand the real scale, we worked around the sentence «wandering in a rectangle space» at several scales :First, by drawing in 2 dimensions, then with small paper models at 1/200th scale.
After selecting one model, we built it with wood, big enough so people could really “wander” in it.
We tried to understand how, in a simple space (rectangular) the location of obstacles (high, low) would affect travel, locations and stops. This experiment was carried out in 3 days, installed during the visitor day at school, and was «tested» by more than 5,000 people over the weekend.

MORPHOLOGICAL STUDY - 2011Sundarbans region, Bangladesh
Team work - 4 weeksCarine BERTAUD
In connection with the project «A village against erosion» we worked around the mangrove. With informatics (rhino, sketchup ...) and physical tools (study models) we realized different representations of the same area.
The final form of the model is generated from an analysis of the function of the trees that grows in mangroves. Considering the water surface as plane of symmetry, we transcribed vegetation as «highs” and «lows”:High points are the tops of mangroves and lows roots.

PLAINE DENSE CITY - 2013(Full Density)Seine Saint-Denis - 93
Team work - 2 weeksClément DAGNEAUXValentin CARO
The Seine Saint-Denis plain contains many economic and urban opportunities.
We want to depart from the traditional urbanization by focusing on the links between real-estate and architecture and imagining new ways to make the city.
We cut the site in twenty horizontal strips.Once a sample acquired, the objective is to design the space cleverly to benefit from bonus : win extra square meter in exchange for instrastructures, equipment or green spaces.
The rules are not obstacles but oportunités to develop a new urbanism, more sustainable. The objective is to achieve diverses architecture forms and maintain a balance between density and quality of life.

On a 10 000 sqm site, we established rules allowing each urbanism planner to determine the location of roads, surface area activities or the percentage of green spaces to obtain a variety of urban forms. But thanks to a system of bonus, it is in their interest to provide more green space and equipment in order to increase the ground occupation coefficient.
On a plot of 38 350 sqm, I propose an urban form offering:- 81 000 sqm of built area (45% for activities and 55% for dwellings)- 550 dwellings- 17% of green spaces- a ground occupation coefficient of 2,1

We were given an urban site for ten persons and we had to create ten plots, streets, implementations rules, green spaces, urban accomodation, programs... with a high density.
Our neighborhood is bordered by two major axes, allowing quick access for deliveries and emergencies. We worked internal paths more important for the life of the site.
We created urban porosity with a publics spaces system linked by theses paths. Crossings link the routes and trail, creating five places.
It allows to reintroduce smaller public spaces, creating breathing places in the urban density. Referring directly to the ancient Agora, the open spaces are gathering places for the neighborhood life where there are shops and activities.

After the plots boundaries decided, I obtained a site of 1800sqm, with one shared wall, two facade openned on small places and one on a busy a noisy street.
With the high density of the neigborhood (we each had to conceive more than 5000sqm) I mostly took into account the sunshine to design the volumetry.Has every project was evolving, I sometimes had to make some adjustment due to someone’s modifications.
My program consist of a retirement home mixt with apartment and shops. This way, elderly people used to live in the city don’t get disconnected from life : people come to them in the building, in the common courtyard or in the place nearby. If needed, the retirement house can be transformed into student housing.
