Studio Ortelli BA V-VI
Implantation, typologie, histoire, caractère col-lectif et représentation.Le projet se situe autour de la gare de Sébeil-lon. Cette friche ferrovière a une géométrie complexe issue de la juxtaposition des dif-férents réseaux. Elle est au coeur de l’actualité urbaine lausannoise grâce au projet de tram route de Genève et au centre d’une réflex-ion territoriale dans le Schéma Directeur de l’Ouest lausannois. Le thème est la mixité typologique: la Misch-bebauung. Ce type d’urbanisation correspond au compromis entre la densification et le rêve de pouvoir habiter une maison avec jardin: low rise high density. Le développement simultané du bâti et non-bâti permet de réfléchir à deux thèmes liés : la présence de l’élément naturel dans un contexte urbain et son identité en tant que «lieu collectif», sa définition architecturale constitue un des éléments centraux du projet.
Implantation, typology, history, collective spaces and representation.The project is located around the train station Sébeillon. This abandonned area has a com-plex geometry that stems from the juxtaposing of different webs. It takes part in the very core of the development of lausanne, thanks to the tram project Rue de Genève and is involved in the territorial reflexion standing in the west – lausanne director plan. The topic is the typological mixity: the Misch-bebauung. This kind of urbanism corresponds to the compromise between the densification and dream of an house with garden : low rise high density. The simultaneous development of the built and the non-built enables us to con-sider two related subjects: the presence of the natural element in a urban context and its iden-tity as a « collective space», its architectural definition forms one of the central elements of the project.

Cullian Gridshell est une immense structure en nappe pliée. Le but de la maquette au 20ème est de reproduire le processus du chantier. Cette simulation per-met d’analyser chaque détail de la construction pour saisir les phénomènes du montage. Nous travaillons une maquette au 1/2 pour reproduire le détail-clef du pliage. L’étape suivante consiste à enrichir la structure initiale en proposant des variantes inovantes. C’est au niveau du détail et à ses répercussions sur la structure globale que l’on cherche à optimiser l’ouvrage.
Cullinan Gridshell is a huge folded web structure. The aim of the 1:20 model is to replicate the process of construction. This simulation enables to analyse every construction detail to capture the modeling phenomenas. We work on a 1:2 model to reproduce the key detail. The next step consists to enrich the initial structure by offering innovative alternatives. It is at the detail level and its impact on the global structure that we try to optimize the work.

La forlcaz est un Village de Chalets individuels sur un terrain tortueux. Nous disposons uniquement de ce que la montagne valaisanne nous of-fre: pierres, bois, eau des glaciers en aval. Nous construisons un fétiche dans le paysage. C’est une gigantesque chambre froide qui, animée par des fourneaux, envoie de la vapeur au coeur de la crypte au sommet de la tour: les bains. Ce projet en trinôme est l’opportunité d’imaginer le rituel des thermes: la collecte collective de la glace, les saisons,... nous trai-tons des matériaux locaux et de leur manufacture traditionnelle.
La Forclaz is a village of individual chalets on a tortuous field. We dispose only what the valaisan mountain offers us: stones, wood, water flowing from the glaciers upstream. We build a fetish in the landscape. It is a huge cold chamber of ice which, animated by the lower furnaces, sends steam in the heart of the crypt at the summit of the tower : the baths. This three-persons project was an opportunity to imagine the ritual invoked by a bath program: the collective ice collect, the seasons,... We consider the local materials, their traditional implementation.

Le tourisme dans les Alpes Suisses a connu un important developement aux débuts du XXème siècle. De «Grands Hôtels» fleurissent au Valais pour accueillir les voy-ageurs du monde entier. L’idée de l’Hôtel Hannibal est d’installer un petit «Grand Hôtel» sur les traces du conquérant, tel un refuge pour loger ce cortège exotique. Il s’agit de répondre au confort du tourisme au sein d’un bâti perché dans la vallée du Binntal.
The tourism in the swiss Alps had experienced a growing development in the XXth beginnings. « Grands Hôtels » bloomed in the valaisan mountains to accomodate trav-ellers from the whole world. The idea of Hôtel Hannibal is to implant a small « Grand Hôtel » on the conqueror’s track, as a refuge to host this exotic procession. We respond to the comfort of tourism in a building perched in the Vallée du Binntal.
Le projet se présente comme un petit village que l’on traverse sur l’itinéraire de randonnée. En amont deux chalets vastes publics, et en aval trois cha-lets pour les chambres. Ils s’appuient sur une fondation de béton qui est l’allée publique. Ce sont des questions de relation au paysage des Alpes qui guident la réfléxion, la construction sur une topographie de montagne. On pousse le projet jusqu’au détail de la structure, sa mise en oeuvre.
The project is as a tiny village that we cross on the trek path. Upstream two large publics chalets, and downstream three chalets for the rooms. They rely on a concrete foundation which is the public allée. These are questions of relationship to the Alps’ landscape that lead the reflexion, building on a mountain topography. So we deepen the project until the structural detail, it’s implementation.
TRAVAUX ANNEXES - ANCILLARY WORKSBA III
LA TAILLE DE PIERREDans le cadre d’un cours porté sur la stéréotomie, chacun doit tailler sa pierre, avec ses moulures, son profil, comprendre cette matière pour qu’elle forme une voûte avec les autres voussoirs du groupe d’étudiants.
STONEMASONNERYAs part of a stereotomy course, everyone must carve his stone, with its trims, its profile, to understand this matierial and form an arch with the other vaults of the student group.
LA MANUFACTURE DES SABOTSAvec l’atelier Bakker&Blanc, un ouvrage pour comprendre la manufacture du bois consiste à façonner des bottines en lien avec le projet Vertig’Eau. Ici des sabots munis de griffes pour se cramponner à la montagne lors de son ascen-sion.
WOOD MANUFACTUREWith the Studio Bakker&Blanc, a work to understand the wood manufacture consists to shape boots related with the Vertig’Eau project. Here clogs with claws to cling on the mountain during the ascension.
VILLE ARCHIPELStudio Dietz BA II
Une formidable structure utopique: la ville verticale. L’atelier élabore une véritable matrip-olis par l’interaction des différents projets perchés dans cette méga-structure. Le Matripolis Reporter est une fabrique de journeaux au sommet de la matrice. Ce programme de bureau fonctionne comme une machine tant par son organisation intérieure que par son enveloppe où défilent les impressions. Nous nous confrontons aux rapports de seuils, de “voisinage” entre des imaginaires divers. Par le dessin à la main nous apprenons à construire dans une structure déterminée et à élaborer une maquette précisée grâce au crayon.
A tremendous utopic structure : the vertical city. The studio develops a true matripolis with the interactions of the diffrents projects perched in this mega-structure. The Matripolis Reporter is a newspaper factory in the matrice’s top. This office program works as a ma-chine with its intern organization system and its envelop that scrolls impressions. We deal with the thresholds relations, the neighborhood between the diverse imaginaries. Through the hand drawing we learn to build in a define structure and to develop a model specified using the pencil.
