Improved humanitarianresponse through better data
01
OUR FOCUS
DFS also focuses on the intersection between data automation processes powered by Artificial Intelligence and human knowledge, and in particular when one can help the other to execute analysis.
DFS focuses on creation of data centric web applications, websites and mobile applications to support humanitarian organizations in extracting actionable insights from their data and execute their missions. In addition to softwaredevelopment, DFS also provides a range of analytical services focused on strengthening data collection and analysis capacities in humanitarian emergencies.
DFS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in the United States with operations in Switzerland, Kenya, Spain, Venezuela, Germany and Nepal. DFS’ guiding principle is to improve information management in the humanitarian community to enable better informed and more targeted assistance.

The promises of new technologies are not always kept. DFS takes a forward thinking approach to review and select tools and approaches that are the most appropriate to solve given problems. While we are passionate about new technologies, we are also realistic about how much can be expected and achieved from them. DFS firmly be- lieves that technology is best used when it enhances brain capabilities, not when it tries to do our thinking for us.
Recent surveys indicate that data scientists and information managers spend around 70% of their time preparing data. Instead of asking questions to the data, we fight to merge, blend, and clean it. DFS focuses on enabling organizations to spend less time on data preparation, automate simple but time consuming tasks and free time for more meaningful activities like analysis.
The ultimate success of DFS would come when its services are no longer needed and humanitarian organizations are able to make the best of their data without external support. DFS aims to empower organizations with self sufficient methodologies, technologies and workstreams through appropriately tailored solutions. There is nothing more reward- ing for us than seeing projects we supported still producing value years after we have stopped supporting them.

DescriptionAfter years of using a custom built and out of date custom database solution, TI wanted to switch to a more modern and secure solution. DFSled TI through a consultative process interviewing national chapters to derive user requirements as well as technical research on suitable database platforms.
