I seek inspiration in so many ways - through the world’s rich cultural history to the natural world around me; from the
architecture I study to the architecture I experience. There is always another chance to be amazed, and always another
chance to learn. I seek to gain as many experiences, both professionally and personally, as I can. I have passion in what I do. The remarkable and boundless world of design inspires and excites me and I am eager to immerse myself in it and learn as
much as I can, both as a student and a young professional.

integration of streetscapes
The design for the Literary Center was centered around the concept of an integration between the diagonal streetscape of Ludlow Ave. (blue) and the horizontal streetscape of Hosea Ave (green). This integration creates both implied and constructed space and results in high areas of activity within the intersecting patterns, represented in pink. These areas include the entry/gallery and cafe on the main floor and the author’s space, stacks, and reading areas on the second floor.. The program objective was to design a building that serves as a community center and place of social activities. To establish an environment that is inviting, peaceful, and comfortable for people of all types. To create spaces that are fluid and flexible, providing the ability to personalize based on the current users needs.

entry and living area
This design is inspired by the idea of a central core of light that penetrates through the space like a sculpture and gives its adjacent spaces their form and character, while simultaneously creating a bright, inspiring residence for the client. The original structure of the brewery building remains intact to preserve its character and emit a feeling of authenticity. The clients desire to play with texture and material also reflects the original character of the space. The modern glass crystalline shape in the center of the residence creates a balance between the old and new as well as an exciting contrast.

Evolving from the research gathered during a group research project focused on society and culture, I decided I wanted to focus on the issue of women in the workplace. The issue has spanned generations and, although it has seen some dramatic improvements, it is a problem that still exists. Throughout this entire process I realized that this issue is much more complex than I initially thought and posed an interesting challenge as a design student. The intriguing qualities of glass, both naturally and technologically, became the central focus in my design supported through the trends and research that I discovered. Knowing that this is a problem that won’t be able to be solved today I did my best in attempting to find a reasonable solution that steps in the right direction.
REDEFINING THE GLASS CEILING
How might the WORKPLACE OF THE FUTURE level the playing field for the rising
number of women in the workforce?
Q: so, what is the ‘glass ceiling’?
A: According to the Federal Glass Ceiling Commission the term “glass ceiling” is defined as the “unseen, yet unbreachable barrier that keeps minorities and women from rising to the upper rungs of the corporate ladder, regardless of their qualifications or achievements.”
Asking the questions...
...to identify the issues...
What is required to level the playing field for women?
What is causing the rising number of women in the workplace?
inflexibility in home and work life
discrimination of gender and race
necessity to provide for self and family
...and translate a solution through design.

collaborative meeting space
community lounge
personal work zone
The collaborative meeting spaces utilizes the best of the Corning glass of the future. The inspiration for this space came from the idea of a cloud and the manifestation of the ‘aha!’ moment in the idea process. The space is meant to support communication and collaboration while still feeling like an intimate space for small, personal meetings.
The community lounge further promotes collaboration, freedom, and productivity by allowing employees to work in a variety of places and communicate with others in the office. The space includes an open kitchenette, bar, high-top tables, couches, and armchairs for relaxing.
The personal work zone is highly intuitive, efficient, and comfortable space for its users. Steelcase desking systems and Corning’s glass of the future work together to create a see-and-be-seen transparent space that can also be switched to opaque, allowing for privacy.
THE PLAN
community lounge
individual work zone
1 Steelcase office system
The desk system utilized in each work zone, is part of Steelcase’s c.scape desking system. c:scape provides a light and open design, making spaces feel larger than they are and is filled with amenities… some obvious, some hidden that makes the user feel valued (steelcase.com).
2 Corning partition screen
As a part of Corning’s vision for glass of the future, this partition wall is photovoltaic to grant privacy when desired but becomes completely transparent in order to promote better communication.
3 team collaborative zone
The team collaboration zone is a undulating, frosted glass white board that serves to bring the team together for a brainstorming session as well as a translucent divider between the individual work zone. Utilizing the sustainable, hygenic qualities of the white board this zone becomes crisp, highly intuitive, and aesthetically dynamic in the space.

During my total of seven months working for Chico’s FAS I had the opportunity to work for two of the four brands the company owns, Chico’s and White House Black Market. I actively participated on schematic designs and concept development for both brands as well as contributed to the store design and construction process by working on CAD drawings for refresh and new store designs. The work shown here are examples of the 3-D models and renderings I created and presented to various members of the department.
