•Main Street School in the Town of Port Royal for 100 years

•Second oldest, continuously operating school in the state

•260 students • 25 bus riders

• Most students walk to school or are car riders

•Classes walk to Town Hall, the Post Office, Fire Station & Police Department

•Charting Our Course to Excellence! Palmetto Gold & Silver Awards 2010, Silver 2011

Our 2010-11 SIC Goals

1. Increase community involvement to meet student needs due to increasing poverty.

2. Involve community in our Centennial Celebration as the Center of Town for 100 years.

3. Increase community collaboration to revitalize Port Royal Elementary (PRE) as an ongoing, vibrant neighborhood school.

Goal 1. Increase community involvement to meet student needs due to increasing poverty.

•Percent of students with federally subsidized meals increased 22% over previous year.

•Significant increases of students:* In single parent homes and/or being raised by grandparent(s)

*With deployed military parents

*With unemployed parents/guardians

* Of homeless students/students from local child abuse shelter

Our students needed more material and socio-emotional support!

Goal 2. Involve community in our Centennial Celebration as the Center of Town for 100 years.

•Centennial Planning CommitteeRepresentatives:

SIC Task Force Chair, Town Council, Historic Port Royal Foundation President and VP, businesspersons, neighbors, faculty and staff….

Planned events for our celebration:Student murals, School wall murals, Centennial Celebration Day in fall of 2011, Guest Speakers, Art Show, School Tours, Children’s Tour of Town….

•With help from our parents, our neighbors and the Town, convince the County of the importance of PRE to our community.

•Conduct a positive campaign to prevent the closure of Port Royal Elementary!
