Pop Tab Recycling Program The Ronald McDonald House of Delaware provides a “home-away-from- home” for families with children in nearby hospitals. One of the ways you can help us do this is through our Pop Tab Recycling Program. What kind of tabs do we collect? We can only take aluminum pop tabs. The safest bet is tabs from soda cans. However, you can check with a magnet to see if they’re aluminum. If they’re steel or a different metal, they will stick to the magnet, while aluminum tabs will not. Why do we collect the tabs? Every little bit helps! The little tab contains more aluminum than the entire can, and takes up a whole lot less space. It also promotes recycling and conservation practices as well as raises awareness about the House. What do we do with them? The Ronald McDonald House collects a bunch of tabs then turns them into the recycling center for 40-45 a pound. In 2018, we received 8,312 pounds of tabs which raised over $3,243 for our House! Since 1999, when our pop tab program started, we have collected more than $85,000. What do we do with the money? The money from the Pop Tab program goes to pay for everyday costs, including coverage of families’ overnight stays. Although we ask for a $15 a night room donation, no family is ever turned away because they can’t pay. How can you help? Pull the pop tabs off of your soda cans or other aluminum cans. Save them in any container, then bring them to the Ronald McDonald House or mail them in. Try to get your neighbors, friends, clubs, and family to help out and see how many tabs you can collect! Where can you drop off the tabs? Although you can mail them in, we suggest dropping them off to save you expensive shipping costs. Drop them off any day of the week between 9 am and 9 pm at our House on Rockland Road. We’re located right across from Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children. Did you know?
