Thought of the Week

FANTASTIC BOOK PARADE Without any doubt at all, last week’s Book Parade was the largest one held ever at PCPS. The support from families was absolutely tremendous and we had some of our preschool friends attend which was terrific as well. This year we had a very large percentage of children dressing up for the day and they all really participated with enthusiasm. I believe that this was yet another great showcase of our positive and inclusive school spirit. Thank you to Mrs McCabe for her very capable leadership on the day and thank you to our inspiring teaching staff for supporting the event with their own costumes. It was a magic day!

SUCCESSFUL STUDENTS This week I have seen many great examples of students trying their best at school. A particular favourite moment was when I had the opportunity to work with our Stage 1 students who were learning how to do addition with trading. My clever friends below were using concrete materials to reinforce their understanding of trading and place value. KINDERGARTEN ENROLMENTS FOR 2019 We are currently taking enrolments for our 2019 Kindergarten. So far this year we have had 83 official enquiries about our Kindergarten transition programs. The initial Parent Information session for all 2019 Kindergarten parents is timetabled in for Friday the 21st of September 2018. Further details will be supplied shortly. SUPPORTIVE P & C Our P & C work very hard for the students at our school. At the most recent P & C meeting a vote was held to approve funds for the costs associated with the Chess Club, which is co-ordinated by Mr Thorsby. On behalf of the students and the teaching staff, I would like to acknowledge the generosity of the P&C for this donation. It is greatly appreciated. The P&C have asked me to remind everyone of another great initiative that the school has going which is the rewards system in place for Rebel Sports – West Gosford. We receive a small proportion of every sale at this store if customers mention the school by name. We previously held an agreement with Amart Sports and Rebel have agreed to honour that same concept. Mr Rayner currently manages the use of the fund-ing and maintains a high quality PE storeroom via those funds. Please keep supporting that initiative.

In addition, a concerned parent has mentioned that there is a rumour doing the rounds that the liquid amber trees at the front of school are going to be removed. This is incorrect. The trees at the front of the school are not identified as being dangerous or requiring removal by the Asset Management Unit.

Other school improvement projects that are in development are:

1. Lockers for the students in the new buildings (through ABAX Kingfisher)2. Finalization of the STEM space in the special purpose room. (through ABAX Kingfisher)3. School Fencing and gates for Brisbane Water Drive (Asset Management (AMU)4. K -2 Outdoor learning space next to the blue MDR buildings (next to Kindergarten – school managed)5. Redevelopment of the frog pond area near the cricket nets. (School Managed)6. Reconstruction of the P & C shed (site to be determined by the AMU team). COMMUNITY SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENTIf anyone saw a collision between any vehicle and a white hatchback Mercedes on Friday 1st June 2018 at 8.55am on the corner of Takari Avenue and Nioka Avenue could you please contact Mrs Julie Hyland 0421 073 473.

LIBRARY NEWSWow, what an incredible book parade! A big thank you to our brilliant school community, everyone went above and beyond to make our book parade a success. The students looked fantastic in their costumes, the creativity was ex-tremely impressive! It was wonderful to see everyone smiling and having such a good time. The day would not have been possible without the com-bined efforts of students, parents, grandparents, carers, volunteers (canteen and book fair), teachers, office staff, our deputy and our principal, all working together to create such a positive school envi-ronment. Congratulations to our talented Year 2 dance group and the creative students that contributed to the Aboriginal artwork. So proud to be part of such an amazing school! Thank you also for visiting the Book Fair, as a result of your support, the library raised approximately $2000 which will be used to pur-chase new books for our school library. A big thank you to the families who donated books to the library, these will also be avail-able for students to borrow, very soon.If your child is waiting for an ordered book, we are expecting that these will arrive towards the end of next week. Book orders will be delivered to your child’s classroom as soon as they arrive. Please contact me if you have any concerns. If your child was lucky enough to purchase the last copy of a book, the items are now ready to be picked up from the library or they will be delivered to classrooms on Monday afternoon. Some students already received their book on Friday. Please contact me with any concerns. Jodie McCabeTeacher Librarian DEBATING What a team! The debating team of Grace, Dom, Kai and Iona gave up part of their Sport Gala Day to take part in the 4th Round of the Premier’s Debating Competition on Friday. The topic was ‘That we should ban people from under the age of 18 from having junk food like lollies’. The Point Clare team was the affirmative and came up with strong points that highlighted the impact that junk food has in our health, dental bills and the environment and were awarded a victory against Chertsey Public School. Congratulations for the way these students have represented us this year. The whole debating team have been superb in their dedication to improving their debating skills and have been rewarded with 3 out of 4 wins this year!
