TIPS TO BEAT STRESS AT WORK
Workplace stress seems to be an ever-growing monster that seems indefatiga-
ble. It has almost become a buzzword and has crept into everyone's vocabu-
lary. How do you identify that you are stressed at work? A few symptoms can
be: you remain irritated or disinterested most of the times or you focus more on
negatives of the organisations and tend to ignore the positives. Here are few
tips to beat stress at work:
1.Understand what’s causing you stress: Different people get energised
and stressed due to different reasons. You need to figure out what exactly bogs
you down. Is it not being able to submit the task as per the timeline, is it not be-
ing included in conversations by some team members, is it being posted in a
location, where people talk in a different language or is it the apprehension of
not being promoted in the next appraisal cycle that is making your sympathetic
nervous system work harder? Of course, it would not always be just one reason.
The reasons could change or there may be multiple reasons at work at one
point in time. Unless and until you understand your pattern of stress triggers, it
would be difficult to control it. Well, you can't possibly administer a treatment,
without diagnosis of a disease, can you?
2. Start your day early: Many inspirational speakers and life coaches believe
that the key to success in work is starting early rather than staying late.
When you arrive early for work, you have fewer people to distract you
from your tasks, and you may find that you are productive and less tense.

3. Use a to-do list or calendar to simplify
your goals: Each person works slightly
differently, but each worker can also learn
to prioritize the main workplace goals from
the things that can be done in time. Use a
calendar, a pen and pad, an organizer, a
pocket calendar, or anything that will help
to get the stress out of your head and organized in a simplified manner.
4. Avoid gossip and complaints: Voicing occasional grievances and an-
noyances can cause a negative, stressful attitude in the workplace. If you
work with people who do this often, try to abstain. By avoiding constant
complaining, you may be more aware of major grievances. You should take
the time to talk with your superiors about unrealistic goals, victimization at
work, unfair work practices or salary questions, when necessary. Learn to
separate the problems that can be solved and those general annoyances
that have little effect on how you conduct your life.
5. Take breaks at work: Sitting for hours on end in an office chair has not
only been shown to increase stress, but it can also cause chronic back pain,
carpal tunnel, eye strain and more. Remove these health stressors by get-
ting up from your desk every half an hour .
6. Be Positive: remember that nothing stays forever and stressful moments
would go away as well. Being positive could give us the additional energy
to beat stress.
7. Take a lunch break: Get out of the office every day for at least 30 min-
utes. Get some sunlight, if possible, or take a walk - whatever you find gives
you the best stress relief. Some people choose to do yoga during their lunch
break. Finding a private place and bringing a yoga mat to work may help
you to stretch out muscles that could otherwise cause chronic pain. Yoga
has also been shown to concentrate the mind and reduce stress when part
of a regular practice. Meditation, breathing exercise or regular massage
can also have the same stress relief effect.
8. Discover your energisers: its not just important to understand what
stresses us, but also equally important to understand what energises you: is
it a five minute break amidst work or quickly reading a good article ? Dis-
cover what it is and ensure to incorporate it in your day-to-day work life.
I hope you are able to find your energisers and defeat the stressors at work
with the aid of this article.

BAD WORK HABITS
1.Sitting All Day: Sitting all day long is not good for one. Make sure to take a five to ten minute break every hour.
Sitting for more than an hour, will lead to obesity.
2. Phone-Loo Visit: There are a lot of people who visit the Loo and forget to wash their hands. There are a million
germs thriving on your hand after you finish the Loo, which is harmful to your health.
3. The Wrong Posture: Sit upright and straight when you are seated on your desk. This is important as it will not
lead to back and neck aches.
4. Forgetting Water Breaks: We get so caught up in our day to day work that we forget to sip on water through
the day. Water is needed to keep you hydrated and help in proper blood circulation.
5. Rubbing Your Eyes: Your keyboard has a lot of germs so touching your face and your eyes is not a healthy
habit to follow. Sanitize your fingers before rubbing your eyes to avoid eye infections.
6. Saying No To Breakfast: Never say no to your king size breakfast. Saying no to a meal will decrease your en-
ergy levels making you feel lethargic and sick.
7. Not Stepping Out: Step out of your office twice during the day, especially if your working in an ac environment.
Pamper yourself with a little dose of vitamin D.

YEMI ADEDOYIN
What role does your department play in the business and what role do you
play in helping the department
support the business?
Data Networks aspect of the telecoms business. Though we handle IT support
as well as procurement of IT consumables.
I work according to our KPI and where I can give further insights, I do, when
given the opportunity or at the right
forum.
What do you love about what you do?
It’s in my core area of interest; the Internet technology. It’s going to form the
core of future communications and I am always looking forward. And the fact
that I do more than just configure; I relate with humans who use the technol-
ogy.
What is the most misunderstood thing about your role?
I guess it will be to the extent that people misunderstand what BACS does. They just hear IP/MPLS and they are
taken over- they think it’s just connecting one point to another or internet; life is more than that (laughs). There are
a lot of parameters to work with and I mean a lot; hundreds of parameters- from security considerations, to QoS, to
IP address planning to equipment configuration for specific client, quality assurance on IP projects, choice of pro
tocols, service projection, products development etc. No one has come to say wrong stuff to me about what I do
though (I hope their thinking is pure).
How can we make your work easier?
Make it straight to the point. Be humble about it particularly if I am supposed to be helping out. Let me
see a sense of team spirit in it and not just about your KPI.
What 5 things do we not know about you?
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from Unilorin, MSc in Internet and Mobile Communications
Systems from University of York. I am Cisco Certified on Networks (CCNA) I have worked in Finance before and
have a good understanding of Investment.
