Elkhart Lake is a glacial kettle lake with 292 acres of turquoise blue water lined with cedars. The largest lake in Sheboygan county and 4th deepest in Wisconsin, it is 119 feet deep and forms the headwaters of the Sheboygan River Basin. (Wisconsin DNR)
Boating Safety• Maintain and place buoys• Help fund police boat patrol and police pier• Initiate boating rules• Address boating pressure concerns Lake Water Quality• Monitor lake water quality • Identify pollution sources, work to reduce levels• Pursue grant funding for lake studies• Collect, organize, and analyze data• Educate residents on good shoreland living practices • Create a community of lake stewards through education and outreach• Control all invasive species
Membership• Increase public awareness of ELIA• Hold annual meeting and other educational and fundraising events for membership and community
Government Relations• Encourage intergovernmental cooperation (Town of Rhine, Elkhart Lake, DNR and Sheboygan County)• Educate local government on lake concerns• Partner with other conservation groups in watershed to increase awareness of lake issues
Public Outreach• Maintain ELIA social media and website• Produce and distribute ELIA newsletter• Distribute information kits on shoreland living practices to new residents • Provide educational presentations in community
