PAGE 2 THE TRIUMPH GROWING TOGETHER IN CHRIST

Dear Friends, Wow, God is on the move here this summer at UBC! Just this past Sunday, we welcomed 3 new members who sensed God leading them to make UBC their new church home. This makes for a total of 13 new members, including 2 professions of faith, in just two weeks! In addition to this good news... ● God's been at work in a mighty way through our youth and children this summer. Just a couple of weeks ago our youth led evening worship by sharing testimonies, songs and a video presentation. If you missed this celebration, you certainly missed an inspir-ing service! ● Summer worship attendance has increased from last summer. While the summer is keeping us busy with vacations, etc. God's people are consistently showing up each week to worship Him. ● As we finish out the month of July, we are still well ahead of our budget goal to date. What a joy to see God's people giving obediently, generously and sacrifi-cially because they believe in Jesus and what He's up

to at UBC. ● In addition to all the wonderful ways that God is at work in our church, as you read this article, 9 of our mem-bers are in Haiti sharing the love of Christ. This summer's trip includes the launch of a ground-breaking ministry to Haitian women and children who've suffered abuse. From what we've heard, there's nothing like this in all the country. This ministry effort is being led by our own Patricia Goodman. I am in awe to realize that such a ministry is being birthed from the mind of God in the hearts of UBC members. I hope that you're enjoying your summer. If the summer's taken you out of the loop for awhile I hope you'll make plans to come back and get in the groove soon. You don't want to want to miss anymore of what God is doing in our midst.

See You Sunday,

Pastor Kevin

Where has the summer gone? It’s hard to believe it’s time for the kids to go back to school. With the return to school comes a signal that it’s time for another year of Awana as well as a busy fall. God is blessing us with growth, new families, new ba-bies and many new possibilities for ministry. While we praise him for these bless-ings, it brings a great need for workers in the Children’s Ministry area. Here are a few.

Sunday Mornings: 9:00 Service: We would like to offer childcare during the first worship service for Babies—3 year olds. We can only do this with your help. We need 8 volunteers for the babies and 8 volunteers for the 2 and 3 year old group. This will al-low for 2 people per week on a 4 week rotation. If we do not get this number of volunteers by August 12, we will con-tinue as things are with childcare only being offered in the 11:00am service. Children’s Church: (age 4—2nd grade): There is always a need for more couples, and individuals to help lead and teach Children’s Church. Not sure what this involves? I’d be more than happy to talk with you about it. Children’s Church will be offered during the 11:00am service only. Nursery and 2’s & 3’s: We are in great need of willing bodies to love on our babies. If you are willing to give an hour of your time to allow the parents of these young ones to worship, please see me. Sunday Evenings: Again, there is a need for willing bodies to keep our little ones (age 3 & under) in the nursery. Children ages 4 & up will have the opportunity to participate in Preschool Choir, Children’s Choir and Stick Team. Wednesday Evenings: Again, the need is there for willing bodies to keep our little ones (under 2 years old) in the nursery. Being unable to offer this area of childcare, limits those who can work with the Awana kids and those who can attend Adult Bible study. I’ve tried to just highlight the greatest needs. Would you please pray about becoming involved in these areas? You don’t have to have children to work in the nursery. Your children can be grown and gone and you can work in the nursery. All you need is some of His grace, His patience, and His love. He’ll take care of the rest. I covet your prayers in the next couple of months. We continue to strive to make the Sunday School hour the best it can be as well as Chil-dren’s Church. We can only be as successful in these endeavors as we allow ourselves to be by joining together for the good! Looking forward to hearing from you,

Wednesday, August 22nd will be the first club night of Awana to kick off a new year!!!! Please pray with us that this will be the year we reach more families for Jesus. We will start promptly at 6:45pm and end at 8:15pm! Plan now to attend! You won’t want to miss this year of excitement and new adventures! How about volunteering as a listener? I promise you’ll be blessed! As a reminder; the Awana groups are divided as follows: PUGGLES: Boys and Girls age 2—Or one year prior to beginning Cubbies CUBBIES: Boys and Girls age 3 & 4—Or two years prior to beginning Kin-dergarten (Children must be three by October 1 and completely potty trained. This is in line with the Boone County School age requirement to start kindergarten.) SPARKS: Boys and Girls in Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades TRUTH & TRAINING Boys and Girls in 3rd— 5th grades. Each year we begin our year by asking for more workers. I know you must get tired of hearing it, but what a wonderful problem we have! I need workers for each age group this year. Also, we can always use more listeners! Please pray about becoming a part of this fantastic ministry and ask God how He might use you to change the life of a child. I can promise you, the blessings will be far greater than you will ever be able to imagine. If you would like more information about Awana, what a leader does, what a listener does, please, feel free to contact me. I would love to sit down and talk with you! There will be a meeting for all Awana workers and listeners Thursday, August 16th at 7:00pm in the sanctuary.

SEPTEMBER 7 & 8 Retreat at Potter’s Ranch—

Cost is $70 for both days (includes 3 meals, lodging and retreat materi-als). For only one day (Friday or Saturday) it is $20 (includes 1 meal and retreat materials).

Talk about people who do it all! Meet the Bales family! Elmer and Katrina have lived in the Northern Kentucky area since they got married 20 years ago. Along with their three chil-dren, they lead active lives and have become an integral part of Union Baptist Church. Elmer’s degrees are in nursing, and he is currently a project manager in information technology for St. Elizabeth. As for hob-bies, Elmer is an excellent cook. He loves to golf when he gets a chance, but doesn’t get to as much as he would like. Cur-rently, he is taking saxophone lessons, which Arnie was more than excited to find out! Katrina is an administrative assistant to the executive direc-tor of educational outreach at Northern Kentucky University. In addition to working at NKU, she is back in college working toward a bachelor of science degree in business. She is also an avid scrapbooker and loves to swim, in addition to singing with the UBC Celebration choir. Jared is a senior at Boone County High School. He is a multi-talented young man, and is active in both band and drama. Here at UBC, he is in the youth praise band and the Grounded youth choir. He’s been known to help with sound board, powerpoint – you name it! His sister Emily is a freshman at Boone County High School and is quite an artist! She also has lots of musical talent and is in Grounded as well as the school band. Younger brother A.J. is an awesome baseball player and has an abundance of energy. All three of the Bales kids are just plain fun to be around!! Elmer and Katrina have recently started teaching our “college and career” Sunday School class, and have already built it to quite a nice group of young people. In addition, the youth have dubbed them “Mama and Papa Bales,” be-cause they treat all of them like their own children. Katrina recently went to youth camp as a chaperone, and both Elmer and Katrina are active as parents of youth. A huge hats off to the Bales family – thanks for all you do!
