CLUB NEWS

PRESIDENT’S REPORT

What an exciting time for Greencroft! The pool is open, the pickle ball and tennis courts are being used, and the warmth of the sun will soon bring lots of activities to the club. I invite you to enjoy the summer season by having lunch or dinner on the patio. Or dine by the pool. The pool area and chairs have been refurbished and additional umbrellas have been added. Check it out!! As a second term President of the Board, I would like to thank those of you who attended our Annual Meeting on May 24

th. I appreciate the comments,

suggestions, questions and concerns that were heard. It’s important for the Board to hear feedback from the members. I would also like to welcome the new Board members, Bruce Kirtley and Rich Olin. The returning Board members look forward to working with Bruce and Rich as they bring their expertise to Greencroft. They will be filling the Board seats vacated by Hal Warner and Steve Helvin, who have completed their terms. A special thanks to Hal and Steve, whose commitment and service to the Board has been truly appreciated. As always, I encourage you to use your club. And, bring your friends and family. We have two professionally trained chefs (Rick and Keith), our new Restaurant and Events Manager (Jeff Hale), many devoted employees, and a beautiful facility. While events are an important part of keeping the club on stable financial ground, new members and current members using the club on a regular basis will also help insure that Greencroft continues to be a source of enjoyment for all. Happy summer and hope to see you at the club.

MANAGER’S REPORT

Summer has started early at Greencroft with some beautiful weather and sports activities starting. We have a new swim instructor this year. Katie McFarland grew up swimming for summer league, year-round, and high school teams, 14 years competitively. She attended the University of Pittsburgh for undergraduate studies and earned her Masters of Arts in Teaching from Mary Baldwin College. She has been coaching for various teams in the Charlottesville area including the last nine years at Farmington Country Club, Virginia Gators of Charlottesville, Western Albemarle and Albemarle High Schools. She has experience working with swimmers of all ages, infant to adult, and enjoys passing along her love of the water. If you would like swim lessons for yourself, your children, or grand-children, please call Katie at 434-242-8607 to arrange a time. Don’t forget tennis lessons with Cubby Cubbage. Cubby, a Charlottesville native, has been a Director of Tennis and Head Professional at clubs from Massachusetts to Georgia, he has coached a USTA Zonal Team, been a conference speaker for the New England Division of the USPTA, as well as coached and traveled with several nationally ranked junior players. Etiquette from an Early Age

The Greencroft Club will be offering an etiquette class for children. Do you have children or grandchildren whom you would like to sign up for this course?

The course will be taught by Patty Hughson, the Founder and President of Etiquette Empowerment. The course will include table manners, properly setting a table, and the American Dining style. In addition, the course will teach children how to greet others, how to shake hands, how to dress for the occasion, and the power of the telephone. Did you know that there are 5 reasons you have a napkin? Do you know what they are? The course will be 2 ½ hours in length and will include a four course meal.

If you have children or grandchildren who might be interested, please let us know. We are hoping to have the course on a Friday or Saturday in late June, July, or early August when the children are out of school. If you are interested, please let us know a range of days that might work and how many children or grandchildren might be attending. If there is enough interest, we will be offering two or more dates and times to try to keep each group limited to 10 or 12 children each. Please call 296-5597 or email [email protected].
