PNWPWDC Board Meeting Minutes 01/25/2016
Called to order at 7:00 PM via skype
MINUTES
Minutes from 11/30/2015 previously approved via email vote.
Members present: Judy James, Brandon Fleming, Amanda Ford, Darlene Brushwein, Katrina
Jackson, Jonathan Bowman, Suzie LaChasse. Molly Speckhardt absent.
Guest present: Val Tangen
PRESIDENT’S REPORT-Judy James
Have answered inquiries from: Elisabeth Saunders of Leavenworth who is looking for a PWD.
Vickie Baker who wished to be on our e-mail list (does not happen unless you are a member)
She has contacted appropriate chairs of activities using information from our WEB page.
Need to keep PWDCA and Courier events up to date. Brandon will do so.
We need to check that e-mail addresses for our new members are added to our list. Members
who joined last year were not getting information. The PWDNW list is an opt-in mailing list, so
not all members are on the list. For official communication that is intended to reach all
members, must use direct email, not the list. Consult Belinda (web site manager) to see if it
would be possible to set up a list that will include all members to be used only for official
communication.
No other viable options have arisen for the General Membership Meeting in March, so the
location will remain the same. Meeting will be held at Pyramid Ale house across from Seattle
Kennel Club show at Safeco field as in previous years. Date will be Sunday March 13, 2016. Time
will be determined later based on ring time for PWDs on Sunday.
VICE-PRESIDENT’S REPORT –Brandon Fleming
Newsletter went out in December. Objective is to do a quarterly newsletter. Will try to include
more info about upcoming events.
SECRETARY REPORT—Amanda Ford
I completed the update of 2016 club Officers and Directors for the AKC.

COMMITTEES:
PERFORMANCE:
1. Tracking (Jan 2016): Total of 8 entrants, income $610, expenses $941, for total loss
on trial of $331. (see corrected financials above) Thanks to Sarah Kahn for running
the show.
2. Agility (March 18-20, 2016): Proposed budget from Sarah Kahn projects profit of
$3800. See proposed budget for 2016 trial and final report from 2015 trial below.
Budget for 2016 is preliminary. Judy will get more details from Sarah.
3. Water (Report from Amanda Ford)
July 2016: Will hold two day workshop and one day trial with Judy Murray at Deep
Lake, July 15-17, 2016. Need a trial secretary and chair.
September 2016: Will hold two day trial at Flowing Lake Sept 10-11, 2016 with judge
Suzanne Malick. Need trial Secretary and chair. Also need to work on site
reservation.
Need to file trial application, secure site, and place Courier ad for both trials..
CONFORMATION:
1. Regional specialty: Will be held in conjunction with Mt Rainier Working Dog Club
show at Enumclaw, Friday Aug 12, 2016, as a separate Specialty show following the
MRWDC show. MRWDC is providing excellent support and incentives for our
participation. They cover all judge expenses, including fees, transportation, and
lodging. They pay for all food, etc for hospitality so that we no longer have to
provide that ourselves. This includes breakfast and lunch for exhibitors and club
members. They are requesting volunteers to help with staging the hospitality events
to man tables, etc. Thursday would be the best day for PNWPWDC to help, since our
specialty is on Friday.
There will be Obedience, Rally (both indoors), Agility, as well as multiple days of
conformation shows through MRWDC and Olympic Kennel Club on Aug 11-14, 2016.
SOCIAL: Dec 6, 2015 party and General Membership meeting, total expense $241 (see
Treasurer report above)

UNFINISHED BUSINESS
1. Trophies for 2016. Cathi Jzyk was tasked with or at least is willing to procure awards for
2016 events. She has requested a comprehensive list of award requirements for each
event for awards. This would include 3 days of water trial (1 in July and 2 in Sept), as
well as the regional specialty in August. Mandy will email Cathi/Molly to connect them
for Specialty trophy requirements, and also put Cathis in touch with Pam and Val who
did trophies last year for water.
NEW BUSINESS
1. Cathi Jzyk expressed concern about many clubs in area facing reduced agility entries and
lack of income from agility trials. The Boston Terrier trial was scheduled for two judges
and had to cut back to one due to low entries. Cathi expressed concern about declining
income and the possibility of losing money on a trial, especially given the high cost of
the facility at the fairgrounds in Monroe ($7,000 for the 3 day trial vs Argus which would
run less than $3500 including equipment).
During discussion, board agrees that potential financial exposure needs to be
monitored, and evaluated after each event. It is important to have good, precise budget
estimates to work from, and complete accounting in a timely fashion after the trial in
order to evaluate the trial and trial location going forward each year.
Also discussed importance of increasing the number of people involved in organization
of the trial in order to ensure that the burden doesn’t fall completely on Sarah Kahn,
and to be sure that there is a broad enough knowledge base to insure a smooth
transition in the event that Sarah does not wish to, or cannot, continue as trial organizer
at some point in the future. Judy will discuss with Sarah what the best approach might
be to expand and distribute responsibility to additional agility volunteers through all
stages of the trial planning process.
