IUID Data Constraints
Must be encoded into an ECC200 Data Matrix 2-D barcode Must include ISO 15434 syntax Must include appropriate semantics Concatenated Unique Item Identifier (UII) no more than 50
characters Characters A through Z and 0 through 9. Also / and –
No lower case letters, periods, asterisks, spaces (except when using TEI format), or other special characters.
UII must be globally unique The UII, once assigned is permanent.

Which Construct?
Construct #1 Enterprise Identifier (CAGE, DODAAC, DUNS, etc) Serial Number unique within the enterprise
* Construct #1 is usually recommended for legacy equipment
Construct #2 Enterprise Identifier Original part, lot or batch number Serial number unique within that part, lot or batch number
Either construct is acceptable. Suppliers are permitted to use whichever they prefer.
