What is a project?

What is Project Management?

A project is any temporary group activity designed to produce a unique product, service or result.

A project is temporary because it has a defined beginning and end, and therefore defined scope and resources.

And a project is unique - it is not a routine operation, but a specific set of procedures designed to accomplish a singular goal. So a project team often includes people who don’t usually work together – sometimes from different organizations and across multiple geographic locations.

Students are given complex projects as early as the 4th grade and they are graded on the these projects.

Why do PM skills matter?

We don’t expect children to pass a math test without knowing how to add and subtract but we grade students on projects without teaching project management skills

How will learning about Project Management help students?

Why do PM skills matter?

• Project Management is relevant at all grade levels and can be taught as early as 1st grade using fun, age and grade appropriate content.

• Project Management helps students learn prioritization and scheduling of multiple, interrelated tasks that will help them balance their school and home life.

• Project Management teaches 21st century ‘soft skills’ including communication, collaboration and creative problem solving that often fall outside of core subjects like math, science, literature and history.
