FINANCE MANAGER’S REPORTMatthew Shaw

Page 35: PLENTY VALLEY INTERNATIONAL MONTESSORI SCHOOL Annual General Meeting 21 May 2013

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

Why is this year’s result different to last year’s?

With a depreciation write down of $127,680, what does a net deficit of $129,610 mean?

Expansion of the Core School Activity – Early Learning.

Early Learning broke even as a cost centre in 2012 – an encouraging result in the first year of operations.

Page 36: PLENTY VALLEY INTERNATIONAL MONTESSORI SCHOOL Annual General Meeting 21 May 2013

• Efficiency improvements and restructuring, combined with now increasing student numbers, has halted the slide in Financial Position which occurred in 2010.

• As existing students continue their valuable Montessori learning journey from Cycle 1 through to the Celebration of Learning at the end of Cycle 3, the Cycle 2 and Cycle 3 classes will return to their natural size.

• As the C2 and C3 classes grow in size, the School’s financial position will continue to improve.

FUTURE PLANNING AND SUSTAINABILITY

Page 37: PLENTY VALLEY INTERNATIONAL MONTESSORI SCHOOL Annual General Meeting 21 May 2013

FUTURE PLANNING AND SUSTAINABILITY

• As referred to previously, what does an ‘accounting loss’ which is primarily depreciation actually mean?

• A School that runs primarily deficits is essentially living off the Capital Works provided by previous generations of parents.

• Responsible Schools ‘Make hay while the sun shines to prepare for winter’.

• As the Cycle 2 and Cycle 3 classes grow into their natural size, the sun will continue to shine brighter for PVIMS.
