Principal’s Report

Parent Conference- On Thursday September 1st a Parent Conference is being held for Campbelltown and Macarthur areas at John Warby PS. The conference is titled “The Power of Positive Thinking.” The program is filled with amazing speakers and activities including keynote speaker Former Governor of New South Wales, Professor The Hon Dame Marie Bashir, laughing yoga, drumming activities and school performances including the CEPS Senior Dance Group. If you would like to join the CEPS Parent Table, please contact the office.

EXtravaganza- Thank you to everyone that joined us at Event Cinemas last week. I am sure you would agree, the performance was sensational and all of the students did an amazing job, we are very proud of them. Thank you to everyone that posted wonderful comments on our school Facebook page, your kind words are greatly appreciated. Yarn Up- I recently had the great privilege of attending the Yarn Up presentations at Parliament House with 5 Stage 3 students and Ms Claussen. Lora H, Ruby H, Connor Mc, Alisha Mc and Kaitlyn J participated in the public speaking workshops with great enthusiasm and represented our school in an outstanding manner.

Battle of the Arts- Last week Destiny L, Laura B, represented our school at the Battle of the Arts at Sarah Redfern High School. The students all actively participated in a range of art based activities and represented our school with respect and enthusiasm. Thank you to Ms Claussen for all of your work in organising this event.

CEPS BOOK WEEK PARADE Date: Wednesday 24 August 2016 Time: 9.15am Venue: In the hall

KINDERGARTEN – YEAR 6 The theme this year is "Australia! Story Country" and so the students are encouraged to dress in costume of a book character that they remember from one of the first stories ever read to them. This story character can be from a nursery rhyme, picture book or a family favourite. Please join us as we celebrate the joy of reading.

BOOK FAIR

22 to 26 August 2016

Please visit the book fair that will be held in the Library throughout BOOK WEEK. A selection of books will be available for students to purchase at very reasonable prices. Books can be purchased 8.30am - 9am Monday - Friday and at lunchtime.

DONATIONS

Parents/Carers may also decide to donate a book to the library. Your child's name will be placed on a label inside the book to acknowledge their donation and they will be the first to be able to borrow the book. This will greatly assist in providing new books for our students to borrow. Please ask about donating when visiting the Book Fair.

Stage One Sport – Term Two

Skill Activities Last Term students participated in activities from the PD/H/PE syllabus unit called Games and Sports. It was all about basic movement and basic skills. The activities exposed students to the beginning components of skills that will be needed to particiapte in structured games [and competitive sports] in later years. While they may seem very basic, they are the building blocks needed to develop more complex skills. We try to have fun teaching and learning them by making the activities as interesting as possible!!!! Sport One – Locomotor Skills At this activity, students were exposed to different types of movement and exploring different ways of jumping. Some activities included -

• Comparing the difference ways of running and walking

• dodging and swerving around markers • shuttle relays • vertical jump for distance • horizontal jump for distance

Kangaroo House • It is fun to jump high on the wall and hopping in our

races was cool – Ismail 1-2S • It’s good trying to jump higher and it is good for us to be fit – Jessica 2W • I can get stronger in my legs when I jump and hop at sport – Samuel 2W

• It’s healthy to do this. It’s teaching the Kindy’s to hop and high five people – Jaxon 1-2W

• This sport makes us exercise and do practice with our hopping and jumping. It’s fun – Connor 1H

• This sport helps me with my hopping and jumping and waiting in line and taking my turn – Abbigail K-3T

• I love doing it. Hopping is lots of fun – Bella KL • I loved jumping high at the wall because I like seeing how high I

can jump – Charlie KL • We get to have fun when we learn new skills like jumping. I liked

doing the kangaroo jumping and jumping high at the wall – Jemma 2W

8 Sport Two – Bouncing Skills At this activity students were taught different ways of bouncing different sized balls-

• Bouncing with both hands • Bouncing on the spot • Bouncing while running • Bouncing to a partner • Bouncing for a specific amount of time • Bouncing around obstacles • Bouncing along different pathways

Wombat House • I like it because we get to bounce to a friend and we have different partners every time – Lily M • I like bouncing to my partner, but my favourite thing is bouncing with one hand – Frankie 1-2S • I like bouncing because it gives us exercise. I like bouncing to my partner and running up and down

bouncing to myself – Emmanuel 1H • I love sport because I get to play with different kids and make friends. Bouncing is a fun activity

and helps me be fit and healthy – Cody 2-6M • My favourite thing we did was bouncing to a partner. It was easy sometimes but hard too when the

bounce missed me – Paul 1H • I liked bouncing to my partner. I also liked trying to get a better score when bouncing the ball on

the spot by myself – Rhys 1H • I like bouncing and catching it. I liked learning to bounce to my

Sport Three - Rolling Skills At this activity, students participated in lots of different activities that allowed them to roll a ball -

• rolling to a partner • rolling a ball to try and stop it in a hoop • rolling at a target such as skittles or cones • tunnel ball • rolling as part of a relay

Emu House

• I like to do fitness and moving. The rolling games are fun. I like rolling the ball to my friends - Tanapat 1-2S

• I like learning new games and spending extra time with my friends who are Emus - Alex 2W

• I like to roll the ball. It is tricky - Oshin KL • I like playing with my friends and catching the balls – Kayden KC • I like when I roll the ball and people in my team catch it – Tara 1H • I like rolling the ball at this sport. It is fun to try and get it to the other person – Sina-Rose K-1G

Goanna House • I liked to throw the quoits and try to beat Mr

• My favourite activity at this sport was the quoits because you get to work with a partner – Emily 2W

• I like this sport because you can throw to a friend. And then after that we got to see how far we could throw them!! – Zephinah KL

• I like quoits because you get to throw them very far. Miss Walker is my favourite sport teacher – Udeepta 1H

• I like throwing the sacks with Miss Walker because you can throw them up and down. It was fun to see how high we could get them – Rylee 1-2S

• I like throwing them [quoits] because it is like a frisbee – Adam K-1G • It was fun because one activity we got to throw it further and see how far it would go. I got better

10 What’s next - In the next edition of “Infants Sports News” we will have details of our next group of sports. At the end of Term Two and the beginning of Term Three infants students participated in sports to get ready for the Athletics carnival in Week 5. These included a rotation of Athletics skills – Shot Put, Discus, Relays and Long Jump. And a rotation of games – including Indigenous games and Fun games [tug of war, life saver flags and perimeter games]. We look forward to bringing you the students perspective on these sports!!
