The program is scheduled to take place on May 15th and 16th, 2020, at the National Eye Institute at the National Institutes of Health. This year‘s program will provide two full days of thought-provoking, research-themed education, including topics such as Basic Human Genetics for Ophthalmic Medical Personnel, Genetic and Rare Diseases that Affect the Eye, Adaptive Optics: An Advanced Optical Imaging Technique, Clinical Research Imaging in Ocular Oncology and Autologous Cell Therapy for Age- Related Macular Degeneration. The program’s faculty is comprised of leading physician experts and eye imaging specialists in clinical research in ophthalmology. Two accredited Vendor Forums are also scheduled, which will enhance your practical knowledge and provide opportunities to gain hands-on experience. So, mark your calendars for May 15-16, 2020 and plan your trip to Bethesda for a great program, catch up with colleagues, and even make new friends! Our keynote speaker, Dr. Catherine Cukras, is a noted ophthalmic clinical researcher. After receiving a BA from Princeton University in chemical engineering, she received her medical degree and her PhD at Washington University Medical Center, St. Louis, MO. At the Scheie Eye Institute she completed her residency in ophthalmology followed by a medical retina fellowship at the National Eye Institute (NEI). As a NIH Lasker Clinical Research Scholar and tenure track principal investigator at NEI, her interests are concentrated on the clinical trials of the understanding of retina diseases, particularly retinal degenerations involving monogenetic diseases, as well as age-related macular degeneration, with a concentration in disease pathogenesis and establishing outcome measures for future clinical trials.
