PLANNING

Page 2: Planning to film

NOVEMBER 27TH 2012

Our aim:• To film the ‘montage’ shots involving various

people tearing up paper shapes with a solem expression.

This means:• To find willing participants.• To make the shapes using newspaper.• To find various backdrops in the school to use for

filming.

NOVEMBER 27TH 2012

Reflection:• We made many shapes out of newspaper such as a heart, a cloud, a

sunshine, a tear drop ect.• Students were recruited from the study room and LRC who tore up

the shapes.• To make this more interesting we sometimes included more than one

person in a shot.• Key lighting was used whilst we were filming, and we experimented

with this by using it as our only light source in a dark hallway.

Issues:• Getting the camera to focus each time.• Finding willing participants.• Trying to encourage people not to laugh whilst they were being filmed

(these moments have inspired us to make an additional “bloopers” video which we will add to as our filming progresses).

DECEMBER 4TH 2012

Our aim:• To film the scenes of the music video which

feature the singer by herself and with the guitarist.

Props needed: Costume(s):

Micophone (for singer) Black trousers/skirt (both)

Guitar White top/shirt (both)

Chair (for guitarist) Dark shoes (both)

Drawing of heart (held by singer)

The costumes/hairstyles/make-up need to be easy to recreate as if we do not complete all intended filming at the time then we may need to do so at a later date and continuity is vital.

Our intentions:• To film all singer/guitarist shots and shots

of the singer with the drawing.

• To use lighting effectively.

• To use a variety of camera shot

types and angles.

DECEMBER 4TH 2012

Reflection:•We tore up the paper scraps needed to form “TORN” from newspaper to feature in our music video.• A decent start was made to our filming for the “performance” shots.• We filmed the start of the music video where a close up of the singer zooms

out to a mid shot.• A few of our two-shots of the singer and guitarist were also filmed after we

constructed a stage from gray folding blocks.• Both the singer and guitarist were in costume and wore minimal make-up.• We experimented with various lighting (cool, warm, bright ect.) and camera

movement (panning).

Issues:• Filming a sufficient amount within the allotted time without having to rush.• Achieving smooth camera movement.• We did not finished all the filming that we intended and still have close ups,

mid shots and two-shots to film we well as the “heart” shots and the creation of “TORN” from newspaper.

Reflection:•We managed to produce a drawing of a heart to use in our shots of the singer.• All the two-shots were completed.• All the close ups and mid shots of the singer were completed.• Three of the “heart” shots were filmed.• Various lighting and camera angles were used, including a low angle shot.• The singer and guitarist were both in costume and the singer had slightly

more make-up on which showed up better on the camera, avoiding a very pale face.

Issues:• Although we filmed all of the two-shots (meaning the guitar no longer has

to come into school and cause inconvenience), not all of our shots have been finished.

• We still need to shoot the “heart” shots and well as the spelling of “TORN”. • We are conscious that we still have yet to film the “couple” scenes and

therefore need to find a willing male to appear in our music video who we have no yet found.

DECEMBER 13TH 2012

Our aim:• To complete all the shots that involve the drawing

of the heart and the “confetti TORN”.

Props needed: Costume(s):

Micophone (for singer) Black trousers/skirt (both)

Guitar White top/shirt (both)

Chair (for guitarist) Dark shoes (both)

Drawing of heart (held by singer)

Our intentions:• To film all shots

of the singer with the drawing.

• To film the section where

the word “TORN” is

formed from newspaper.• s
