successful experiences.• provides the flexibility necessary to access
technology, such as online databases.• allows greater access to information and
the expertise of the library media specialist.
• to learn and master a research process in a meaningful way. Black History Encyclopedia Example
Take Advantage of Open Circulation
• Add as a center in small group times (reduces
the number of students in class) examples located in
• Know where they are in RC or AR and what they are reading. (utilize the log) logs located in Reading Counts folder
• Build into SQUIRT time.• Give the library staff info on student
reading habits, problems, etc. (use folders as communication tools.)
• Use silent reading times in the LMC as an incentive.
• Scheduling in the Classroom– Prepare for open circulation(even though it’s open,
set up a sign up sheet) – Schedule using centers or set up an assigned day– Build in some kind of check/balance system– Watch for frequent flyers and sitting ducks
• Set a time limit and let students know how much time they have. (foster responsibility).
• Overdue Items – (assist in book recovery with monthly overdue report)
• Let me know if you are having problems. (idea is to promote independent pace and make your life easier!)
