    The Pre-Placement Talk Template

Welcome to the Pre-Placement Talk training programme. Campus recruitments can be anightmare for most of us sitting here. Talking to a bunch of 20-something, business graduates

isn't easy. The key is to prepare! To know what exactly you are going to say to them. Before I go

on, let me tell you that this isn't a creative exercise. We mean real business here. So none of yourcute ideas and 'let us empower the students' are welcome here. Successful recruiters over the

years have followed our methods, and have stuck to it diligently. We encourage you to be a

    successful recruiter too.

Over the course of the next few days, we will learn the hows, whys, whens and wheres of

everything that you will probably face when you approach campuses for your organization'srecruitment. What to say, What not to say, which joke to crack, you'll learn it all here. Enjoy

your stay, and soak up all the information you can, 'cos remember, its a buyers' market, and so

you have to make your best pitch.

Lesson Number 1 - Acknowledging the audience

    Key Statements

    i. "Wow! It feels great to be amongst budding young managers."

ii. "Its great to see so many intelligent people at one place."

iii."I love coming to your campus and interacting with you guys."

Begin by familiarizing yourself with the audience. Use any of the above statements. Try not to

deviate too much from the desired intent of these first lines. Smile generously. Try to be cool.

After all, you're trying to tell them how neat it is to work at your organization.

Lesson Number 2 - Gauge the general awareness

    Key Statements

    i. "How many have heard of us, XXX?".ii. "How many of you have never heard of XXX?"

iii."What do you know about XXX?"

This is an effective method to bring the entire audience into light about what your company does. There are bound to be some smart ones, whose hands will shoot up faster than light (sometimes)

who will be kind and obnoxious enough to describe the core businesses of your company. Theinformation thus obtained from The Smart One is disseminated amongst the rest. Now you can

safely claim, "Now that you all know what we do, lets move ahead." Notice how subtly you'vecreated awareness about your company!

Lesson Number 3 - We are the best...

    Key Statements

While the standard format specified below will help you phrase your sentence, you must find out

an area where you are market leaders, or have completed a successful deal. Remember, you

    have to impress them...

    i. "In the Investment Banking segment, we rank in the Top Three of all IPO's in the Organic

Chemicals and Olefins sector, in the first quarter of this year."

ii. "We are market leaders with a 26% share in the B and C class towns of Bihar."

iii."We have the largest shelf-space occupancy in pan kiosks across three states."

Pause for a moment after making your statement. Smile warmly. And say, "I am sure you already

    know that."

Lesson 4 - People are our strength

    Key Statements

    i. "No other organization prioritizes their employees' requirements more."

ii. "YOU are the key to our success."

Use clips, quotes and pictures of employees endorsing the above.

The last line is critical, and must be stated, to indicate that you empathize with the dilemmas of

choice that present itself to the students.

Lesson 6 - Take digs at other companies, within and outside your areas of operation

    i. "The software industry is a great place to learn Marketing. You get to experiment with the 4 P'son-hand. Can you change the colour of a cola drink? Can you change the bottling?Hence FMCG
