It was a good opportunity to reconnect with whānau and friends. We are hosting a parent/student/teacher conference day on Wednesday 11 April, we hope to get as many bookings as possible for this day. We will start the day with the first interview at 10am, and the last available interview time will be 6.30pm. The idea is that students and parents can make specific appointment times that suit them on the school interviewswebsite with the teacher they wish to see. Students are to come along with their whānau/parents for their conference. Once the interview has finished, students may then go home with their whānau/parents. As per last weeks newsletter, I will post a specific how-toguideline for parents who do not know how to make an appointment. My hope is that while we are trying something new, we want to improve on our existing parent interviews and increase participation in a meaningful way. If you do not have access to the internet, please ensure that you contact the College Admin staff, who will assist you in making a booking on your behalf. On Wednesday 2nd May, the first Wednesday of Term 2, we will be holding a special assembly to celebrate Anzac Day. It starts at 11.35am and will be held in the school gymnasium. I warmly invite all local primary schools, whānau and members of our community to come and join our celebration. A cup of tea/coffee will be provided in the staff room following our assembly. Parking will be available on the front field if dry, otherwise please use the bus bay or the Rec Centre parking. Tēnā koutou e te Whānau, I hope you all enjoyed a well deserved Easter break. It was a good opportunity to reconnect with whānau and friends.

We are hosting a parent/student/teacher conference day on Wednesday 11 April, we hope to get as many bookings as possible for this day. We will start the day with the first interview at 10am, and the last available interview time will be 6.30pm. The idea is that students and parents can make specific appointment times that suit them on the “school interviews” website with the teacher they wish to see. Students are to come along with their whānau/parents for their conference. Once the interview has finished, students may then go home with their whānau/parents.

As per last weeks newsletter, I will post a specific ‘how-to’ guideline for parents who do not know how to make an appointment.

Ngā Mihi Johan van Deventer - Principal/Tumuaki

THE SCIENCE ROADSHOW IS COMING! Every two years Piopio College hosts the Science Roadshow on behalf of the surrounding schools. We will be hosting it again here on Monday, 9th April. This covers over 60 hands-on exhibits and includes two live shows as part of the 80 minutes program for each group attending. Already most of the time slots have been filled with students from primary through to secondary school levels. Our own Year 9 and 10 students will be attending the session starting at 12:30pm. Watch this space for photos and an article next week!

The Coaching Workshop is aimed at senior students, parents and coaches at all levels. The workshop will be held on Tuesday 10th April at 6.30pm to 8pm, at the Te Kuiti High School Pavilion. I am encouraging parents who may not yet be a ‘coach’ but would like to know how to get started, how to communicate with children and their parents, and how to run ‘fun sessions’ (whether in the back yard at home, or with an organised team). For local sport to continue, parent coaches are urgently needed, and we at Sport Waikato are committed to providing ongoing support whether through a ‘Coaches Academy’ or ‘Coach Support Network’. Please pass this message on, come along and bring some friends. Refreshments will be provided. Dede Downs - Waitomo District Coordinator

THANK YOU MITRE 10! For a small donation, Mitre 10 Te Kuiti, have given white butterfly caterpillar ravaged plants a second chance of survival. Today Year 10 students carefully planted the rescued brassica plants into their gardens at the Horticulture Patch at Piopio College. Thank you Vaughan and staff. Marina Rauputu Agriculture/Horticulture Teacher

BUILDINGS FOR REMOVAL/ DEMOLITION Piopio College seek expressions of interest for the removal or demolition of two Prefab buildings and the Caretakers house. Could make a fantastic hunting shack, bach or storage room. Can be uplifted and transported off site, or demolished and materials salvaged. Our preference is they be removed during the school holidays. Please submit your expression in writing by Monday 16 April, outlining your interest. For more information contact Ian Small via the College Office on 07-8778173, or email: [email protected].
