Pi Kappa Phi Newsletter From The Beta Xi Chapter
Letter From The Archon Early in the fall semester it was brought to my attention that elections would soon be upon us. A brother had previously approached me stating that I should consider running for a position to hold, more specifically that I should run for Archon. I was surprised to hear that someone had enough faith in me - a mere sophomore - to hold such a position. After a month of deliberation I decided that I would run, and offer my best for the chapter. I ran for the position with the idea that I could help guide the chapter in a positive direction as we grow on our campus. My ultimate goal, as it stands, is to increase the connections our chapter has around campus. Through involvement in Registered Student Organizations, Intramurals, or just general campus involvement, I would like the chapter to expand its horizons and its reach. Along with increasing involvement I would like to lead by example in starting to create a more open and friendly community within the greek life of the campus. I strive to follow the lessons I learned as a young brother within the chapter, and become the chapter that leaves a legacy. –Jared Fritsma

New House! Efforts have been made to acquire a new house for the upcoming 2015-2016 school year and hopefully many more to come. Starting in June 2015 the Pi Kapps will be moving into 1007 S. Main St. Thanks to several brothers’ hard work and chapter advisor Dave Barberi the chapter was able to make early moves and contact Oliveri Management. Our time at 614 S Main is coming to a close but we thank every single brother, active and alumni, who walked through the front door and made memories that will last a lifetime. At the end of this newsletter a pledge sheet will be available to donate money to the chapter and where to go to do so. We are currently striving to attain over $5,000 to acquire new furniture and appliances to furnish the house so when alumni come visit they can see a nice house and be proud of their chapter.

Alumni Spotlight: Spencer Haworth
Spencer Haworth, from Farmington Hills, is this semester’s alumni spotlight due to his continuous involvement with the fraternity after graduating with the Ability Experience! Spencer graduated in May 2012 with a Major in Social Sciences and a minor in history. During his undergraduate experience at Central Michigan University he became a re-founding father of the Beta Xi chapter and was initiated as the 541st brother of the chapter. He considers both David Bernhardt and
Jacob Wesolek as his big brothers and David McCatty as his little brother. His favorite memory during his time in college was spending his last Greek
Week with Delta Phi Epsilon, where he also served as Greek Week chair too. Other positions that Spencer served while in the chapter were brotherhood and recruitment chairs. After graduating Spencer took a yearlong internship with Push America (now known as the Ability Experience). It was after this internship a job with the Ability Experience opened up and he was hired by nationals to serve as the Director of Logistics of the Ability Experience. Spencer stated that he loves his job and it feels like he hasn’t worked a day since he was hired because he loves what he does and helping out people with disabilities. Currently Spencer resides in Charlotte, North Carolina and is single and living the dream. From his time in Pi Kappa Phi he learned how to live out the ritual everyday in his life and be an exceptional leader who provides uncommon opportunities for Pi Kapps across the country.

Hello everyone my name is David McCatty and I am the new historian for the Beta Xi chapter. I think our alumni base is great since we have alumni spanning all the way from 50’s all the way to last semester. As your historian I want to provide alumni with events going in the chapter, but at the same time to give alumni a chance to meet up and catch up by throwing more alumni events. Homecoming as been scheduled for October 3rd, 2015 against Northern Illinois and our chapter would love to have any alumni come over and catch up and see our new house.

Tom Fournier I am a Freshman from White Lake Michigan. I always knew that I would go Greek, but didn’t think that it would happen so fast. Growing up as an only child, and coming to Central I wanted to have a sense of brotherhood, and that’s what I felt the first time I showed up to Pi Kapp. There is no better place to better myself then this school and this chapter. The class I became a part of couldn’t have been better and I thank Delta Class, and James for being there for me. Big Brother: James O’Donnell

Delta Class - Continued Mike Halvorsen I am a freshman from Novi Michigan, I joined Pi Kapp because I started off at central by myself and I missed my family a lot, so I went around trying to find a place where I felt like I belonged; a second family and I found that with Pi Kappa Phi
Big Brother: Alex Pipitone
Charlie Dillon I am a freshman from Plymouth Michigan. I joined Pi Kapp because I wanted to get involved around campus and be a part of something. When I met the guys from Pi Kappa Phi, I felt like family. Now I’m glad to call them my brothers.

Francisco Vega My name is Francisco Vega Jr. and I am from Detroit, Michigan. I am a sophomore at CMU and this is my first year in Pi Kappa Phi. I am currently double majoring in Biology and Environmental Studies. I actually rushed for PKP my freshman year two times. The first time I rushed I got all the way to take the test but something happened with my family financially and had to drop out of the initiation process. The second time around I was not able to rush because my G.P.A was too low for the standards. When sophomore year came around I made sure that I had everything planned out and ready to finally be apart of PKP. I got a job at Subway located in the dorms I am living in now and got my grades up. I was determined to be apart of
PKP and I finally went though the process and became an official brother of PKP. I wanted something bad enough and did everything I could to make it work and it was definitely one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Proud to be.
Big Brother: Matt Berlin
Sean Smith I am a sophomore from Clarkson Michigan. I joined Pi Kapp to network with great guys and make friends.
Big Brother: Mike Halbany
