lightning protection code. o Provide UL Master Labeled lightning protection system. Note that surge protection is

integral to this system. o Coordinate installation with other disciplines to ensure dissimilar metals are not in

contact with each other in wet/damp locations. o Coordinate roof penetrations with owner, architect and general contractor.

Notify Engineer for approval of any equipment that needs to be installed in locations other than what is shown on the plans, or if not shown at all. Furnish As Submitted Revise and Resubmit Furnish as Corrected Submit Specified Item

Corrections or comments made on the shop drawings during this review do not relieve the contractor from compliance with the requirements of the specifications and drawings. This check is only for review of general conformance with the design concept of the project and general compliance with the information given in the contract documents. The contractor is responsible for conforming and correlating all quantities and dimensions; selecting fabrication processes and techniques of construction; coordinating contractor’s work with that of all other trades; and performing work in a safe and satisfactory manner.

Lightning Protection materials are bare copper and may accelerate corrosion on other metals that are not galvanically compatible; for example, the copper material should not be mounted on any aluminum surface, bare zinc, or galvanized sheet metal. If the surface is one of the materials listed above, VFC will need to switch to the appropriate aluminum equivalent material as required by code. Aluminum materials meet all applicable Lightning Protection requirements, but are sized larger to eliminate any difference in impedance. WELD METAL

CADWELD WELD METAL CADWELD Weld Metal is a mixture of copper oxide and aluminum, packaged by size in plastic tubes. Each tube contains the starting material at the bottom of the plastic tube, with the Weld Metal on top. These materials are not explosive and not subject to spontaneous ignition. These containers are pack-aged in boxes along with metal disks. Each weld uses one disk. Five types of CADWELD Weld Metal are used for grounding connections:

1. F20 or standard Weld Metal is used for all grounding connections with the exception of those to cast iron or to load bearing rail. The standard Weld Metal containers have clear (or natural) caps. Stan-dard Weld Metal is also used with most FX molds.

2. XL Weld Metal is used with EXOLON molds. EXOLON Weld Metal containers have white caps. 3. XF-19 Alloy Weld Metal is used for all connections to cast iron such as Type HB and others. XF-19

Weld Metal containers have orange caps. For DUCTILE IRON, See Section 3, Cast Iron Connections. 4. CADWELD F80 Alloy Weld Metal is used for all connections to load bearing rail such as Type W

Bonds. F80 Weld Metal containers have yellow caps. 5. Cathodic connections require different weld metal and molds. Contact factory for cathodic connection

applications.
