Presidents Report For February 2020

Hello all, Great flying weather we have been having! Hope you all have had a chance to get out and fly! Everything is rolling along rather smoothly with no problems. I hope you all had a chance to get out to The Winter War Bird event. This event is getting better every year! Thanks to Tony Quist for running this event. We had 80 registered pilots! I thank all of our members that came out and helped in running this event. Without the help of the members this event would not be possible! Thank you all! Check out the Slow Roll it will be a great issue, thanks Bob Purdy and all the members that sent in photos of the event. That’s about it. The Membership Meeting is at Deer Valley Airport Restaurant on Wednesday night Feb.5th 7:00 Pm. Come on out and support the club.

1) (Lou) many people are not using spotters! Incident happened last week of uncontrolled plane! If you see someone flying without a spotter, spot for them until they land and then remind them of the rules. Discussion to follow up by Board.

Old Business: 1) SVF Membership fly-In big success. Thanks to all the members for support,

and all the members that help me run this event. 2) GARBAGE!!!!!!! Members need to take responsibility and clean their own

garbage! New Business

1) Field clean up as soon as I can put together. Need to wait for a tractor to be available

2) Runway seal going to take place sometime in April. Pit area will also be crack sealed as well.

3) Winter War Bird’s January 24-26th. (Tony has the floor). Volunteers are

needed, please reach out to Tony if you would like to volunteer for the event. Old Business: 1) Membership Fly-In great success. Club ended up covering cost and making a little!

2) Winter War Birds Jan.24 thru 26th. I secured 8 campers with Flood Control. (Two of

which is SECURITY VEHICLES). City has been notified of the event. Currently there are

enough volunteers to help with the event. Only pilots and crew (with wristband) will be al-

lowed in the pit area during the event.

New Business: 1. Field Clean-up. Trying to acquire a tractor via rental or if any members have one availa-

ble. Need gravel to fill in the rough spots north and west of the field.

2. Sealing the runway will hopefully be done towards the end of April.

Winter Warbird 2020 We have completed our 8

th Winter Warbird event. I believe this is the best one to date. There

was lots of everything but stress. Pilots started coming in on Wednesday for an event that start-ed on Friday. We had 35 pilots by Thursday and they flew peacefully with club members all day. By the end of the weekend we had 80 pilots from 7 states that were able to fly in perfect weather, no wind and 70-75 degrees. Flight line was busy with a full 5 planes in the air consistently on Friday and Saturday. One thing we have always done differently, we don’t shut down the flight line for anything none emer-gency or pilots meeting. This was the busiest I remember; it went smooth because of the hard work of Kenny Rhoads. It would have been a nightmare without you. Vin Diffabio and Keith Hoffman did some fill in duty. It also helped that the pilots are experienced and know how to communicate with each other. This makes my weekend a lot less stressful. We had the support of many to help us pull of this event. Our Sponsors for the event were De-sert Aircraft, Horizon Hobby, BVM Jets, John Gerhardt, Joe Nelson of RCGF, Aeroworld RC, House of Balsa/Zap, BadboyzRC, Smart-Fly with product. Fuller Petroleum, Warbirds Over the Rockies, Sam Wright/Acrostar Enterprises and Don Corum were Trophy Sponsors. Mike Dolan/ Vistacom Sponsored the Taco Bar feast on Friday night. My thanks go to all of them for what they did to help. We did something different this year that turned out well. We brought in MF Koffee to bring their mobile coffee/smoothie trailer, and When Pigs Fly OTG sandwich truck. Both companies served amazing product that everyone enjoyed, beat the hell out of Hot Dogs. The last piece of the puzzle is Sun Valley Flier members. Without the continued support of our club members this would never happen. I believe I counted 32 people that volunteered at this year’s event. Most of them have helped since beginning 8 years ago. Not one person has not shown up for gate duty. You guys are constantly dumping trash and cleaning up without being asked to do so. I think this year is the first time I have been satisfied with the entire event. But we needed one more Porta John and a wash station. The final expenses aren’t done yet, but I can say that the club made good money at the event. Greetings to All Thank you Tony Quist, Lew Pfiefer, and all of the volunteers that made Winter Warbirds a huge success. Every pilot, visitor, and spectator that I have spoken with said it was the very best show. Members, we looked great! We had pilots and friends from all over the southwest and they did enjoy being at Sun Valley Fliers! Having been the safety officer for the One Eighth Air Force for about the last 20 years I would encourage all of our members to have SAFETY as your primary goal and on your mind at all times. Bad things happen even when you are obeying the rules and guide lines. They happen even to the safest of pilots and crews. In the blink of an eye tragedy can strike. Have you been to the field and ignored some trash laying around or a full trash can. Have you seen something you could fix but decided to "let some one else worry about it"? How about one of our pilots needing some help? Please members help out. We are all part of the same club and we should all have the welfare of our club and field in mind! Please help out. Thanks for allowing me to be part of the best RC Club in America. SUN VALLEY FLIERS! Yeah baby!
