Natural burial is an environmentally friendly way of saying farewell. It consists of either being buried or having ashes interred in a plot beneath an entirely sustainable eco-system. This means only biodegradable materials can be used in or around the burial site and ensures a long-lasting site of natural beauty.
We are doing everything we can to make sure that the environment we are creating is in keeping to local flora and fauna. In consulting extensively with the Essex Wildlife Trust, the Woodland Trust and the RSPB we want to provide an area that is both amenable to local wildlife and actively supports it. As a result, we are installing bird and bat boxes which provide homes for rarer species such as Barn Owls and have planted greenery that attracts native animals and insects.
We hope that continuing in this manner will lead to a sustainable ecosystem that can thrive for generations, ensuring a profound environmental legacy for anyone buried here.
ABOUT US Old Park Meadow is located in a tranquil setting in the heart of Essex, between Chelmsford and Great Dunmow.
Formerly farmland, our 34 acre site consists of a variety of grasses, trees and wildflowers, creating the perfect space for natural burials. We have also planted our Bluebell Wood, providing another area of stunning natural flora to complement our wildflower meadows.
To take advantage of this beautiful spot of countryside we have built Old Park Lodge, purposefully designed to hold funerals and wakes.
At Old Park Meadow there are no time constraints and no fixed rules or formats. We are open to people of all faiths and beliefs.
Old Park Lodge is a stunning wood and glass building with huge folding doors that allow the beauty of the meadows and woodland to be enjoyed by all. The Lodge is purpose-built for remembrance services where families and friends can honour the life of a loved one. It is also perfect as an alternative gathering place for greetings and goodbyes before and after a natural burial or cremation and is ideally suited for a wake.
Having a building like this allows us to cater ceremonies to any want or need. Whether you require an ash interment or burial, long or short service, or hold a wake or afternoon tea, Old Park Lodge is completely adaptable. We also provide a variety of memorial options, from the Book of Remembrance to bench plaques and tree memorials, so loved ones can be remembered.
