Over 600 feeders in this week and did they ever look good. We hit the ground running with Kerr Cattle Co. (Telkwa) and their pen of 880 lb YS setting the bar at 179.50, 953 lb YS hit 174.00 and the 839 lb YS jumped to 181.00. Maria Martins (Fort Fraser) had 1061 lb YS reach 161.50, 989 lb YS went on up to 169.25. Singletree Farms (Vanderhoof) showcased Angus X steers at 935 lbs, marking 175.75, 993 lb YS at 167.75, 856 lb YS climbed to 188.00. Valley Creek Ranch (Houston) displayed quality Here-ford influence steers like their 958 lb YS who struck 170.00, 1000 lb YS holding at 169.25, 924 lb YS at 178.00 and 835 lb YS hit 180.00. Charles Aebischer (Vanderhoof) saw his 970 lb YH demand 160.50. DMS Ranch (Vanderhoof) had 825 lb black heifers strike 164.75. Guy Bambauer (Vanderhoof) had 678 lb Hereford heifers sell at 177.00. The butcher trade slid here as it has everywhere else. We had just over 100 hd for sale and found good cows bringing 84.00 to 88.00 with odd sales over 90.00. Bulls from 100.00 to 115.00. ‘Twas a tidy little sale, I sure appreciate how we all can work together and keep this industry strong! First regular and calf sale is September 15th. Normal receipts for this time of year with around 400 head and today fea-tured more calves. Paul & Karen Caissie from Clearwater put the power to our cow trade with 1503 lb cows notching 91.00. Steven MacDougall from Barriere had 1355 lb cows top 93.50. The Ward Creek Ranch blew the doors off the place with a top 2045 lb Limo bull racing to 120.25. Just a handful of their calves here, their 500 lb Limo X S/C hit 214.00. Gerry & Anne Wellburn from Armstrong had young 1504 lb Red Angus cows ex-posed to a top bull trade to 96.00. Fred & Barb Watkinson also had a few calves. Their 565 lb S/C’s marked 203.00 and their 415 lb S/C hit 228.50. Quality Yearlings were featured today. Jim Knights 1009 lb Angus Strs reached 160.25 and his 894 lb Strs traded to 175.75. Ken McDougall’s 1044 lb Strs hit 158.75 and his 968 lb Strs brought 165.50. Ken Hartley’s 745 lb Hfrs hit 170.00. Jim Haughton’s 866 lb spayed Hfrs topped 163.00, his 835 lb Strs brought 184.00. Hugh Fallis’ group of 1037 lb Strs sold to 155.25. JD Farms 890 lb Hfrs sold to 159.00. Rod Horsley’s 950 lb Strs topped 169.00 and his 853 lb Strs traded to 181.50. Helmut West’s 816 lb Strs hit 185.75. Markus and Sonja Leuthardt’s 538 lb black S/C hit 201.50 and their 490 lb black Strs reached 212.00. The Leuthardt’s 348 lb S/C’s sold to 239.00, their 768 lb black Hfrs notched to 170.50, the 680 lb black Hfrs at 170.00 and the 615 lb Hfrs hit 176.00. They also had 533 lb black Hfrs sell at 185.50, and their 388 lb black Hfrs reached 218.00. Ned’s Creek Ranch saw their 630 lb S/C hit 192.25. Today Glen and Reynold Mazu saw their 558 lb Black Angus S/C power to 200.50, their 460 lb S/C today saw 227.00 and their 467 lb H/C’s raced to 206.00. Robert Bach from Barriere had top calves. Their 578 lb red brockle face S/C’s notched 197.00. Gerry Canuel’s 325 lb B/C’s hit 246.00 and the 365 lb H/C X’s sold to 224.00. Next week, another top sale planned for Tuesday, September 5th. We have 200 calves listed now plus 100 yearlings.

The cattle industry in British Columbia is supporting the increase in check-off to $5.00 per head beginning September 1, 2017. This $5 represents both pro-vincial and national check-off amounts. The Canadian Beef Cattle Check-off is increasing to $2.50 per head and at the same time, the provincial check-off is increasing to $2.50. These increases were made at the request of the provin-cial and national cattle associations.
