Dear parents, BULLYING. NO WAY! During the last fortnight, Mrs Scully and Mrs Holt consulted with all grades in Years 3-6 about our online Sentral processes. One of the functions of Sentral includes the ability for teachers to record student interactions on the playground and in the classroom. As a grade, Mrs Holt and Mrs Scully asked the students to define minor and major incidents. The students assisted in identifying the appropriate staff member for dealing with issues and learned about how teachers help. Most importantly the students learned how important it was to report both small and large incidents as they recognised that many repeated, small incidents can contribute to bullying behaviour. Sentral recording is an ideal process to track bullying behaviour. Last Friday, on the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence, all of our students participated in classroom lessons. Students shared their BIG ideas, imagining a world free from bullying. Bullying occurs throughout society at all levels, face to face and online. Staff members and students each shared their BIG idea on an orange flag, all proudly displayed throughout the school. Parents attending P&C this week will be invited to fill in a flag, taking a stance against bullying in our community. Reporting bullying is key. Support your child to ‘Speak, even if your voice shakes’. Research indicates that 37.7%of students report bullying to teachers. When bullying is reported, 29.3% of the time the bullying stops and a further 39.6%, the bullying is reduced. If you see someone being bullied, ‘Speak up, even if your voice shakes’. https://tenplay.com.au/channel-ten/the-project/top-stories-march-2018/speak-even-if-

YEAR 4 SYDNEY TWO NIGHT EXCURSION will be held from Monday, 9th April to Wednesday, 11th April. The full amount of $280 is now overdue. The medical and behaviour form is also due. Please return this form immediately to assist the venue with catering. For planning purposes please advise the school office if your child will not be attending. YEAR 5 AND YEAR 6 SENIOR EXCURSION will be held in Term 2. The cost is $420 per student. A deposit of $70 is now overdue. There are still places available, however final numbers must be confirmed with venues in the near future. Information is available on the school website or from the school office. BOOKCLUB orders and payments are due by 3pm on Thursday, 22nd March. A reminder that all orders and payments must be made via Scholastic Australia. DEFENCE SCHOOL TRANSITION AIDE (DSTA) Please welcome Sally Twelvetree as our new DSTA. She is here to assist ADF children and their parents to quickly settle into school and support them when a parent is away for service reasons. Sally is a current member of the Army Reserves, her husband is in the RAAF and she has three “nearly” grown up children so she fully understands the unique demands of being an ADF family. She will be available at school on Mondays, Tuesdays and most Fridays and is looking forward to meeting you. Please pop into the school and say hello or call the school on 4934 3584 to chat to her. FRIENDLY REMINDER to wait for your children under the COLA or near the back gate (not outside classrooms) so that we can safely deliver all students to their parents and carers. Also please ensu8re that your child does not bring toys/cards to school unless it is for news. Thank you. Sue Holt. YEAR 6 2018 TO YEAR 7 2019 EXPRESSION OF INTEREST forms must be returned to our school office ASAP. There are more than 20 forms still outstanding. MOSQUITOES are quite bad around the area at the moment. If appropriate, please spray your child with insect repellent each morning to help prevent mosquito bites and discomfort during the school day.
