Dear Parents and Carers, Welcome to week 9 at our wonderful school. While there is only just over a week to go until the school holidays, life is still busy at Ashtonfield Public School. Yesterday I had the pleasure of taking 60 students to Maitland Grossmann High School to see their school musical, Disney’s High School Musical. What a fantastic showcase of talent, many of the students being Ashtonfield exports! Jenna (6G) is currently in Albury competing as part of the NSW Hockey team. An amazing achievement by this sporting star – we wish her the very best in the competition. Don’t forget our Student Led Conferences are next week. This is an opportunity for your child to show their work and be proud of the achievements they have made so far this year. Conference notes are to be returned to the class teacher. We look forward to seeing you during the week. Our Zone Public Speaking representatives will have the opportunity to deliver their speech at our whole school assembly on Monday. Speaking in front of our school will give our representatives the chance to speak in front of a large audience, before they head off to the finals early next term. If your child has been selected to represent our school at the finals next term, please feel free to join us at our assembly on Monday, 27
th June, starting at 2pm. We look forward to seeing you there!
Our staff development day for term 3 will be held on Friday, 16
th September instead
of the first day back. On this day all teaching staff from Ashtonfield will be joining staff from our learning community of schools to work on innovation in schools. There will be child protection training held next Thursday, 30th July. We will meet in the front office at 9.15am, with the training concluding by 10.30am. We’ve had many parents and caregivers contact us to volunteer as a parent helper in the classrooms. We ask that if you’re keen to help in the classrooms, you attend our short training session. Our Education Day extravaganza will be held on Thursday, 4
th August. The day will
involve food, travel, music and dancing – what more could you ask for! More details will be revealed after the holidays!! Mrs Ryall is having too much fun on her leave at the moment and has decided to extend her time off until the end of the year. I’m very excited to announce that I will continue in the role as principal until the end of the year. Have a wonderful holiday break everyone and stay safe. Enjoy the time with your
family and friends. We look forward to seeing everyone back to school on Monday,
18th July.
Have a happy week, Deb and Staff.

PREMIER’S READING CHALLENGE (PRC) The Premier’s Reading Challenge is well under way for 2016, with all our students from Year 3 to Year 6 having the opportunity to partici-pate. It not a competition, but rather a challenge to each student, to read, to read more and to read more widely. The Premier’s Reading Challenge has been running for 15 years and, over that time, has encouraged thousands of students to read over 45 million books. Today, with the temptation for students to stay glued to a screen all day being so strong, the challenge has become more important than ever. The Premier’s Reading Challenge 2016 aims to open the door to a lifetime of learning by encouraging students to read more and read often. So we encourage all our students to take the challenge, read more and discover where their own curiosity and creativity can take them. There are currently 8 students from Years 3 to 6 who have completed the PRC for this year. They are: Nikitha 4K, Scarlett, Jayden, Anna and Will 4R, Seth 6C, Jayde 6S and Roman 6G. Congratulations and well done. There is still plenty of time for all students to complete the Challenge as it runs until 26
th August.

Ashtonfield Carols night
Thank you to all those who braved the cold weather to come to our P&C meeting on Tuesday night and wel-come our newest member, Kristyn. Our next meeting is Tuesday, 19th July – we hope to see you there. It was approved at our last meeting to purchase 10 new Blazers for those students representing the school, for example School Leaders and Debating team members. Some of our fundraising goals include providing an electronic notice board out the front of the school and a new school banner for occasions such as the ANZAC day march. We have a few fundraising events coming up and would love your help. One beginning early next term is selling boxes of Cadbury chocolates and Natural Confectionary lollies. If you work in a high demand work place we would love to hear from you. Boxes will be available from the Uniform Shop or by contacting Jen Arnold on 0403385283. Another event is our Movie night on Thursday, 11th August. The movie is “Bad Moms”. Tickets are $20 and are available from the office and the uniform shop or $25 if purchased on the night.
