 TOTAL MAN-GAMES LOST: 56 NOTES OF THE NIGHT Claude Giroux and Jake Voracek continue to rank among the league’s top 10 scorers. With his three-point day yesterday, Giroux nowhas 14 goals and 37 assists for 51 points through the halfway point of the season. When yesterday’s game ended, that was good forsecond in scoring in the NHL. Giroux has two goals and 18 assists for 20 points in the last 13 games and as of the end of yesterday’sgame, led the NHL in scoring in the past 30 days (since Dec. 6). Voracek recorded his 41st assist yesterday, which extended his league lead in the category, and with his 49 points ranks in a tie forsixth in the league in overall scoring. Sean Couturier has 21 goals on the season and now has 40 points on the year, which are both new career highs. He has posted threemulti-point games in his last four, and has six goals and four assists for 10 points in his last eight games. Couturier became the fifthFlyer since 2005-06 to reach the 20-goal mark at or before the season’s halfway point. Hagg has 32 morehits than the next closest rookie this season. Hagg also has 56 blocked shots, which leads all rookies, and his 18:52 TOI average issecond among all rookies. Hagg has a plus-11 rating, which is fourth among all rookies. Shayne Gostisbehere has 31 points on the year (8G, 23A), which puts him in a tie for second in scoring among defensemen. Dave Hakstol was named the 19th head coach in Flyers history on May 18, 2015. He enters his third season as head coach of the Flyers. Hakstol, 47 (7/30/1968), came to the Flyers from the University of North Dakota, where he served as the head coach of the school’s hockeyprogram for 11 seasons.  During that time, Hakstol’s teams posted an overall record of 289-143-43 (.654). The Warburg, Alberta native ledUND to the NCAA postseason in each of his 11 seasons, including seven appearances in the NCAA Frozen Four, most of any program in thecountry during that span.  North Dakota won three regular-season conference titles under Hakstol (WCHA 2008-09 and 2010-11; NCHC 2014-15). He also led UND tofour WCHA playoff titles (05-06, 09-10, 10-11 and 11-12).

Phil Housley is in his first season behind the bench for the Sabres after being named the 18th head coach in Buffalo’s franchise history. The Hockey Hallof Famer and former Sabres defenseman is the seventh alumnus to serve as the team’s head coach. Housley joined the Sabres after helping to guide the Nashville Predators to their first ever Stanley Cup Final appearance in 2016. Named an assistantcoach on May 22, 2013, Housley was a driving force behind one of the NHL’s best defensive groups throughout his tenure. A native of South St. Paul, Minnesota, Housley began his coaching career in 2004 as head coach of Stillwater Area High School in Minnesota.
