SUMMER INTERNSHIPS - THE CONCEPT

Summer Internship is an integral part of the PGP course at Indian Institute

of Management Kozhikode. During their first year, students are trained in

functional areas of Marketing, Finance, Consulting, Economics,

Organizational Behaviour and Human Resource Management, Operations

and Information Technology which orient them towards a business culture.

The courses aim at molding their work ethic and developing skills highly

valued by the contemporary industry.

At the completion of the first year in PGP course, students spend 8-10

weeks during the summer in the industry. Students are exposed to a real

time business environment, and take up responsibilities and goals which

aim at being mutually beneficial for both the student and the organization.

It serves as a platform for applying the management theories learnt in

the classroom and helps in providing clarity about the functional area

that they desire to specialize in. Internships thus have a crucial influence

on the career path and choice of organization by a student.

WHY SHOULD COMPANIES RECRUIT INTERNS?

Internships have a distinct edge over interview-based final recruitment

as a method of evaluating potential employees

Deserving candidates often get Pre-Placement Offers, and students

SUMMER RECRUITMENT

PROCESS

(October, 2012)

An eight-nine week longinternship at the organizationprovides students andorganizations a mutual learningopportunity.

Step 1 (September, 2012 1stweek onwards)

Companies make a PPToutlining the various roles/projects on offer duringsummers.

Step 2 (September, 2012 lastweek onwards)

Based on students preference,the companys slot is confirmedby the Placements Committee.Resumes of interestedcandidates are sent to thecompany, and thereafter theshortlists are provided.

Step 3 (October, 2012 1st weekonwards)

Companies arrive on campusand after conducting theirselection process, make offersto the students according to themanner prescribed for their slot.

Step 4 (April, 2013 to June,2013)

Students are available forinternship lasting 8-9 weeks.

Step 5 (June, 2013 toNovember, 2013)

Companies can offer PPOsduring this time period, theacceptance of which shall becommunicated at the end ofFinal Placements.

SUMMER INTERNSHIP AT IIM KOZHIKODE THE TREND

IIM Kozhikode continued to maintain its 100% placement record overthe last fifteen years with over 100 firms making offers to studentsacross different verticals in 2011. The summer process of 2011 sawthe participation of over 35 firms that took part for the first time inaddition to the loyal recruiters who have always believed in the talentpool at IIM Kozhikode. GETTING TO KOZHIKODE

Location

Kozhikode (also called Calicut) is the third-largest city inthe state of Kerala. The capital of the erstwhile Malabardistrict, Kozhikode city is the headquarters of theKozhikode district. A melting-pot of diverse cultures,Kozhikode is an important trade centre in south India,associated for long with trade in spices and silk. Today,Kozhikode is famous for its palm-fringed beaches,tropical forests, and Ayurvedic therapy. You can plan onextending your stay if you wish to tour other parts ofKerala.

Travel

Kozhikode is well connected by air, rail and road to majorcities in India. Indian Airlines, Spice Jet and Jet Airwayshave frequent flights from Delhi, Bangalore and Mumbaito Kozhikode International Airport. Cochin InternationalAirport is a 4-hour drive from Kozhikode.
