These instructions are intended to assistthe user on assembling and repairingSeries 14t Butterfly Valves.

3. Assembly of the butterfly valve

3.1 Preparation for the assembly

Before assembling the valve, carefully clean all parts and placethem on a soft surface (rubber mat or similar).

Note! Plastic parts are nearly always soft and verysensitive. Take particular care when handling thesealing surfaces to ensure that they do not getdamaged.

Caution! A high-performance grease paste is usedduring manufacturing to prevent the screws from coldwelding in the bodies (e.g. Gleitmo 805 by Fuchs).

Do not use this lubricant with valves intended for oxygen service.Use a lubricant suitable for valves that are free of grease,especially for oxygen service.

Note: The position and arrangement of the individualparts shown in the exploded view diagrams must beadhered to on assembling the valve.

3.2 Pre-assembling the valve body

Place the valve body ( 1 ) on a surface at a suitable working height.

Screw the stud bolts ( 23 ) into the valve body ( 1 ).

Use a suitable mandrel to press the bearing bushing ( 13a ) as faras it will go into the shaft bore of the valve body ( 1 ) on the stuffingbox side.Insert the spacer ( 14a ).

Use a suitable mandrel to press the bearing bushing ( 13b ) far as itwill go into the shaft bore of the valve body ( 1 ) on the bonnet sideInsert the spacer ( 14b).

3.3 Butterfly disc and shaft

The butterfly disc ( 3 ) and shaft ( 2 ) form a unit which is easilyassembled together using the straight pins ( 6 ). This unit can betaken apart for assembling it into the valve.

Note:It is important that both these components are usedtogether.

3.4 Assembling the butterfly disc, shaft and valve body

Place the butterfly disc ( 3 ) with the sealing side facingdownwards on a surface at a suitable working height.

Place the valve body ( 1 ) with the facing side upwards carefullyover the butterfly disc, ensuring that the disc is located neatly in theport of the body.

Caution: Take particular care to make sure that facing ofthe valve body and the butterfly disc do not get damaged.

Note: Make sure that the bearing holes on the butterflydisc ( 3 ) are aligned with the shaft bore of the valvebody ( 1 ).Observe the eccentricity of the butterfly disc.

Push the shaft ( 2 ) through the shaft bores of the valve body ( 1 )and through the bearing holes of the butterfly disc ( 3 ).Insert the straight pins ( 6 ) into the butterfly disc and shaft.

3.5 Assembling the butterfly valve

Slide the guide washer ( 7 ) on the bonnet side over the shaft until ittouches the ready installed spacer ( 14b ).

Fasten the shaft head ( 8 ) to the end of the shaft with the screw( 9 ).

Push the ring ( 21 ) onto the bonnet ( 18 ).Insert the washer ( 20 ) into the recess in the bonnet ( 18 ) intendedfor it.

Place the ready-assembled bonnet into the shaft bore of the valvebody and align it using the screws ( 19 ).Tighten the screws evenly in a criss-cross pattern.

Slide the thrust washer ( 17 ) on the stuffing box side over the freeend of the shaft at the corresponding place in the valve body.

Slide the rings of the PTFE packing ( 22 ) one by one over the shaftinto the shaft bore of the body and press them in using aninstallation sleeve.

Note: Make sure that the packing rings are inserted withtheir divisions not aligned with one another.

Place the stuffing box ( 15 ) neatly over the shaft. Insert the studbolts and align them using the nuts ( 16 ) and washers.Tighten the nuts evenly in a criss-cross pattern.

3.6 Final assembly of the butterfly disc

Turn the valve body by 180° so that the facing of the butterfly discfaces upwards.

Insert the ring ( 11 ) into the groove of the ready-assembledbutterfly disc ( 3 ).

Caution:Pay particular attention to cleanliness.

Push the seat ring ( 4 ) onto the fastening ring ( 5 ).

Caution:Refer to the exploded view diagram in Fig. 3 for locationof the seat ring ( 4 ).

Place this ready-mounted fastening ring on the butterfly disc andadjust its position using the screws ( 12 ).

Caution:Do not damage the facings.

Fasten the fastening ring by tightening the screws evenly and in acriss-cross pattern.

Insert the feather key ( 10 ) into the groove of the shaft ( 2 ).

Carefully bring the butterfly disc into the closed position.

3.7 Note concerning the mounting of actuators

Caution: Triple eccentric butterfly valves must alwaysclose in the clockwise direction!

Assembly of the butterfly valve is now completed.

4. Troubleshooting

Refer to section 7 of Operating Instructions< BA 14b-01_EN > for automated butterfly valves or< BA 14b-02_EN > for manually operated butterfly valves.

5. Repair of the butterfly valve

5.1 Replacing the packing

If a leak is detected at the shaft bore, the packing ( 22 ) may bedefective.

We recommend checking the condition of the packing.To remove the packing, disassemble the valve in reverse order tothat described in section 3.

Check the rings of the packing and all plastic parts for damage. Incase of doubt, replace the parts with new ones.

5.2 Replacing the seat ring

If the butterfly valve does not shut off tightly, the seat ring ( 4 ) maybe defective.

We recommend checking the condition of the seat ring.To remove the seat ring, disassemble the valve in reverse order tothat described in section 3.

Check the seat ring as well as all plastic parts for damage. In caseof doubt, replace the parts with new ones.

5.3 Further repair workIn case of severe damage, we recommend the repair work to becarried out by Pfeiffer.
