Puravida19 comments on Hague Corp and Access2Flow PR of July 29, 2009 named Hague Corp. Subsidiary Solterra Renewable Technologies To Launch First of Its Kind Continuous Batch Tetrapod Quantum Dot Semi-Conductor

On the www.access2flow.com website there is a12 page white paper titled

Application Note published by Access2Flow Partners:Fast scale up of microreactor technology from lab scale to production

With the announcement that Hague Corp/Solterra Renewable Technologies will useAccess2Flows technology to enable mass production of CdSe Quantum Dots, I haveextrapolated information from the PR and the White Paper that I want to share. The following is my opinion based on the information provided in the sources Inamed.

Developing the mass production process: The time estimate for developing theprocess is 200 man hours. That's 5 scientists working a 40 hour week to create a new

process. In the scaling up estimate for an actual process Access2Flow created for anothercompany, they scaled "by a factor of 1250" and produced 55 grams an hour.

Here is the actual quote from their document-

Finally, the optimized and validated reaction parameters were applied to larger micro reactors connected in parallel. A production rate of 55 g per hour could be reached with this device, giving an overall scaling factor from optimization device to preparativelab scale of 1250. Further parallelization of the reactors will increase the production

rate up to kgs per hour. Major benefits of the flow chemistry route vs. conventional batch chemistry in this particular case are the safe and easy operation of an exothermic reaction, fast development time

So, transposing those results of one machine for one hour, @ lowball $1000quantum dot gram sale price = $55,000 per hour or $1,320,000 per 24 hour day inproduct. At $2500 per gram, that is $4 mil/day. Access2flow thinks they can improvethe production numbers with time. Those are amazing numbers.

Disclaimer by me - this is discussing just one process access2flow completed and I donot know how related it would be to Solterra's needs, but it is an example of whataccess2flow can do. They have many processes to find the optimal process and theywould develop the process specific to Solterra.

One note is that Solterra would retain the rights to the improvements in the processdeveloped. I think Solterra is the first or among the first clients of access2flow. Thefact that Solterra has not a lot of cash and swung this deal implies that access2flowwas sold on the technology.
