Today, the Robinson Healthcare Fast Aid® brand of plasters,bandages and personal care products combine high performancewith full compliance to appropriate legislation and standards. Therange has been significantly developed and expanded since itsintroduction in the 1970’s to now offer a complete range of highquality plasters, wound dressings, tapes, bandages, wipes,absorbent lint and first aid kits for use by all the family.

The range has also been augmented by the introduction of FastAid® Advanced. These high performance products bringprofessional woundcare technology to the home first aid marketand offer advanced methods of protection and the promotion offast, natural healing. The Advanced range delivers significantadvantages to consumers, compared with standard homewoundcare and provides the retailer with a premium product andthe opportunity of increased revenues.

Compliance with Legislation & StandardsVirtually all Fast Aid® brand products are classified as medicaldevices and are therefore manufactured in compliance with theMedical Devices Directive 93/42/EEC, as enacted in UK law byThe Medical Devices Regulations 2002. The products aredetermined as devices under Annex lX of the Directive, Rules 4and 13. Robinson Healthcare Fast Aid® plasters are eitherpresented sterile - Class l or lla - or have a medicated, antisepticpad – Class lll. Under the Directive, this means that the productsrequire authorisation from an independent third party certificationorganisation, called a Notified Body, before a CE mark can beapplied to the product. It is illegal to sell a medical device withouta CE mark.

Class lll devices have the greatest level of legislative controlsapplied to them and are subject to a type examination by aNotified Body under Annex lll, which must also include clinicalevidence derived from clinical trials to support the efficacy andsafety of the device. Following this, Production Quality Assurancecertification must be achieved. Class l and lla sterile plasters mustachieve Annex V Production Quality Assurance for the sterilisationprocess. Robinson Healthcare’s Notified Body is BSI, who alsocertifies the manufacturing facility to a number of other requiredstandards. Full details of the Directive and the requirements placedon manufacturers is provided on pages 6 to 12 of this catalogue.

To further demonstrate the high level of care to which theseproducts are manufactured, Robinson Healthcare is alsoindependently certified to the British Retail Consortium (BRC)Global Standard for Consumer Products. The BRC is the leadtrade association representing the whole range of retailers, fromlarge multiples through to independent stores. It is recognisedworldwide as the authoritative voice of retailers. The ConsumerProducts Standard focuses on the manufacture of safe and legalconsumer products of a consistent and required quality.

Fast Aid® for First Aid

Robinson Healthcare has considerable experience in the manufacturing and marketing of a portfolio offirst aid products that includes adhesive plaster and bandages. From the first antiseptic dressingsdeveloped in the 1880’s in collaboration with Lord Lister, through to the acquisition of the Flexoplast®

adhesive plasters brand in 1959, Robinson Healthcare has always been at the forefront of manufacturinghigh quality products.

Annex lX – Classification Criteria for Medical Devices

Rule 4

All non-invasive devices which come into contact with injured skin:

• are in Class I if they are intended to be used as a mechanical barrier, forcompression or for absorption of exudates,

• are in Class IIb if they are intended to be used principally with woundswhich have breached the dermis and can only heal by secondary intent,

• are in Class IIa in all other cases, including devices principally intendedto manage the micro-environment of a wound.

Rule 13

All devices incorporating, as an integral part, a substance which, if usedseparately, can be considered to be a medicinal product, as defined inArticle 1 of Directive 65/65/EEC, and which is liable to act on the humanbody with action ancillary to that of the devices, are in Class III.

id Fast Aid® Advanced Blister PlastersFast Aid® Advanced Blister Plasters utilise professional, advanced hydrogel technology to create a plaster that not only helpsreduce pain but also promotes the natural healing of blisters. The result is an essential product that is ideal for use on heelsand toes where discomfort due to the rubbing of new or ill-fitting shoes is experienced.

Advanced Technology

Every Fast Aid® Advanced Blister Plaster includes a large hydrogel pad to cover the blister or sore skin, which helps the woundin its natural healing by donating and absorbing water. This creates optimal moist wound healing conditions, which is nowrecognised to improve the rate of healing by up to 50%, as skin cells need moisture to grow. These conditions also help toreduce scarring.

Relieves Pain and Discomfort

Fast Aid® Stayform® - Polyamide& Cellulose Contour Bandage BPStayform® is a high quality woven polyamide and cellulose contour bandage that fully conforms to the British Pharmacopoeia(BP) monograph. Designed to retain dressings securely to the wound without inhibiting movement or restricting circulation,Stayform® is particularly effective when used on areas of the body that are usually awkward to dress, such as the hand.
